Just curious... I have looked on line and in the brochure. How do you figure out how much throat space a domestic machine has? I have a Babylock Quilter's Choice. I wondered how much throat space it has

For those who machine quilt using a domestic machine, how much throat space does your machine have and is it enough? What is the typical amount of throat space?

I use a Viking Mega Quilter, I believe it has 9 in space. I have quilted up to queen size on it. Measure from needle to body of machine.

7 1/2" and can do up to a lap quilt comfortably. And thats pretty standard for a domestic machine. My midarm has 15. You could just measure from the needle over to see how much space you have.

From the right side of the needle, measure the opening towards the right until you get to the side of the machine. I hope this is clear enough.

I have ten inches on my Pfaff. I have 7 1/2 on my Kenmore. Quilting on the Pfaff is MUCH easier.

i have a juki f600 and a 98q both have 9 inches.

9 inches is fine for piecing on my f600 but i would love to have 22 inch throat on my frame instead of the 98Q.

just contact babylock, they will get back to you the next day

You measure from the right side of the foot to the inside of the machine column (?). That's the throat size. I have a Babylock Quilter's Choice Pro, and it's 9". It's on a frame, and is considered a "shortarm" quilting setup. It works pretty good.

i have the janome 6600. it has a 9" throat.

if i didn't love my 6600 so much, i would love to have the janome horizon..11"

My 1997 PFAFF has seven inches. I just finished a 40"x52" child's quilt and it was fine. I would love more room for larger quilts though. :)
