I've tossed one or two.. Life is too short to fret over a mess.

I am another that thinks it is a shame to throw out fabric. I had two pieces of fabric, one was a fleshy pink that would not go with anything. The other was a small green and white check which turned into yucky grey when I tried to put it with any other pieces. Well I was given a bunch of scrap from ladies I was quilting with and when I was convalescing and bored I started to sew them together into a crumb quilt. Well it seemed rather dark to me and I put in the fleshy pink and ended up using the green check for sashing and the both work great. I was ready to donate both of them. I have even been given blocks and taken them apart and used the pieces I liked and donated the rest. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder

I had a great class from a wonderful, wonderful teacher who, in the list of supplies for the class, gave the amounts for a full size quilt and for just a block. Her reason: some people want to learn the technique, others want to make the whole quilt. She also went on to say that if you weren't sure which you wanted to do, to bring scrap fabric for the class. If you really like the block, then you can go purchase your fabric. The worst that happens is you have an orphan block to use for something else. She also gave us "permission" to look at other class projects and if we didn't really like the quilt, to re-purpose the fabric for other quilts without guilt.
Obviously this doesn't work for every quilt class but it sure works for a lot of them. I have followed the lead of others and bought Christmas fabric yardage and use this for my test blocks. One more class and I will have enough for a
Christmas sampler quilt. Another classmate had shades of green, another patriotic fabric.
This idea has been very freeing for me in taking classes.

I completed a top and hated it so took it to Guild and left it on the free table. Next month someone had done a simple revamp and finished it then showed it at show and tell. It was really cute !

I've thrown away a collage that was just not turning out. Everytime I went into my sewing room it was there on the wall, taunting me and taking me away from other projects I would enjoy as I tried to fix it.
So, I tore the thing down and tossed it in the bin. Felt much better after that.
