Is yarn ok to tie a quilt? I don't if it is strong enough.

My grandmother tied quilts with either yarn or 6 strands of embroidery floss.

Embroidery floss is much nicer and doesn't look as bad as yarn when it frays.

I used crochet cotton or thread.

get a good cotton yarn..stays knotted better! Also practice your knotting before you start...

Don't use a square knot. Use a surgeon's knot. Square knots can come apart fairly easily. When you pull an end it straightens out and the other piece can slide off. Great for temporary tie downs but deadly in a life & death situation.

I have several quilts tied with yarn. If I were to tie one I would use a surgeon's knot as well.

Surgeon's knot explained. Best way to tie a quilt. I use pearl cotton to tie mine.
