Time for Virtual Quilt Weekend
Well, it's time for March's Virtual Quilt Weekend. Just let us know what you're working on this weekend, feel free to share pictures if you can. I have decided to think about Christmas presents this weekend so will be making samples of some of the various ideas I have to see if I want to make several of the item or not. I also have seven table runners I would like to make for a church quarter auction.
Hope to have lots of company in the sewing room! :) |
Going away for a quick weekend getaway with DH. Am taking my hand quilting with me but who knows. Just looking for some down time so maybe I'll get inspired to work on this quilt some more. Happy sewing/quilting everyone.
I really need this, I just am not getting anything done! I have a Mario quilt I really need to get the top done this weekend so I can pick up the back Monday at HL. So hopefully, I'll be sewing this weekend.
I actually have the week end off but we are helping DD and SIL work on their house on Sat. Hope to spend Sun in the sewing room tho.
My husband decided to return from his business trip five days early! There goes five of my quilting at will time. Darn it.
Our guild is having a Community Quilt sew in day tomorrow. I think the fabrics will be red/white/blue. sounds like fun.
OMG....is it here already??!!! I was in on last month's - SO much fun seeing everyone's work.....i'd just started working on my applique Under the Sea quilt for my newest grandbaby (due in April) I am down to sewing on the plants on the last block. Can't wait to see what you all are working on. Perfect timing as tomorrow is National Quilting Day.
Yay, perfect timing!
I am heading out to the coast for the weekend; we rented a house with my cousin & his wife & kids and are going on a little get-away. I already have my machine packed! I picked a really simple project to take with me - I have a bunch of 12-1/2" squares that I've pre-cut from the Tim Holtz fabric line and I'm going to see if I can't get them all put together into a king-size quilt top while I'm out there. I love the fabric so I'm going big-block, I can't wait to see how it looks when I'm done. This one is for ME! And in case I get bored with that (or somehow finish quickly), I'm also bringing a sack full of scraps to put together. |
No piecing for me ;-( I have a backlog of tops waiting to be quilted. I have one loaded and ready to go and another waiting in the wings with it's backing ready. I WILL get these quilted this weekend!
Goodie, goodie. I'm starting my big star quilt (by Jenny Doan at MSQC) this weekend. I ironed most of my fabric last night. I can't wait to get my first big star made. I've had the fabric since December and I'm finally at a point where I can take the time to make another quilt.
I'll be watching to enjoy everyone's work, hope for lots of pictures. no sewing or cutting for me, broken elbow :(

Well, I finished the 7 table runners. Even the backs are pretty. Taking an hour break!
After MONTHS away from quilting, and probably a year from participating in the VQW, your email came at the right time to "force" my hand back to the machine.
I have a commissioned quilt that I really must finish before the gal has to sue my estate for the dang thing.:p :D So I'll be working on quilting the remaining 3 quadrants of that and sewing them together with black sashing strips. Wish I knew how to work my camera so I could share this with you all; that would probably encourage me to stick with it when my back begins to hurt and the temptation to nap hits. I'll be checking back in occasionally and reporting progress.....for myself if not necessarily of interest to others, LOL! First have to dig out the sewing space so I can find the machine after months of "tossing stuff in there and slamming the door!" Jan in VA |
Thimblebug 6000: Sorry to hear about your broken elbow. I hope it heals quickly!
Raggiemom: Thanks for starting this month's link again. I look forward to these weekends even if I don't always get much accomplished. Great table toppers! Jan in VA: Welcome back! I understand the back hurting and having to find the sewing machine! I will be looking for your progress on here. I was on Spring Break this week (I'm a substitute so I enjoy Spring Break too). :) Therefore, I got an early start on my Virtual Weekend. I want to finish 2 more tote bags(total of 6 this week) for Sadie's Dream for a Cure and also finish organizing my sewing area. I will be following along and enjoying everyone's projects. Connie |

I will be working on a little, tiny wall hanging for DGD's late birthday present. |
This sounds like fun! Our guild is actually having a day together at a local church tomorrow for National Quilters Day! Should be fun! Starts at 9 and goes until 7. I have a bag full of different projects to bring with me to see if I can get caught up! I am hoping to get some Christmas gifts started too!
I need to finish the 5th quilt for that teacher at the pool with the 5 childrden. I promised her I'd bring it next week. I think I need a deadline to get me to the end of a project.

Can I join in? I'm finally back to sewing and am committed to making a shower curtain with a quilted medallion and a quilted stuffed hound to raise money for Michigan Basset Rescue. Almost finished the curtain and the squares to make the fabric for the hound are abouth halfway finished.
I HOPE to get back to sewing my batik strip quilt. At the moment my sewing room looks like it exploded! Last Friday, a now retired friend called me and said "I'm purging my stash and offering you first dibs". Of course, when you tell a quilter free fabric, you don't waste time. Another firend and I went over Sauday afternoon and picked it all up, back to my house to sort. She took two boxes full, I got inspired to do a major re-org, so many tubs spread out. One big pile for the guild comfort quilt program. At least I will be better able to find stuff, it has been pretty piled up since we moved into the new house last summer.
PenniF --- I haven't posted pictures of the other 3 yet. I told the mother I posted 1 picture, she told the other children and the sweet children said what about our quilts, we love our quilts too. She said she'd send me photos so I can post them. I stupidly gave them to her without taking photos first.
So sorry about your elbow :(

Well I finished a plastic bag holder. They're easy enough so they're staying on the Christmas gift list. I'm working on a little change purse with zipper now.

I'll be quilting all weekend - want to finish two table toppers that I have the tops done. Also working on some zippered pouches that I've been asked to make. They are fun and nice break from quilting.
I've attached a photo of one of the table toppers and one of the zippered pouches (it has a clear vinyl front). Raggiemom, I really like your plastic bag holder!! |
I'm in. I'm going to start and finish a baby quilt for the shower in one month. I'm using precuts, but this will provide the catalyst to get it completely done with time to spare. I have it laid out on my design wall. Ready . . . set . . . go!
I will be working on finishing a quilt that I was going to sell but my 8 year old fell in love with. Also work on another one that is going to be sold as a little girls lap quilt.
klgls, your table topper is so sweet. I am pretty sure I have some of the same blue border fabric that you used.
The pattern for the Grocery Sack Sleeve is by Me and My Sister Designs.
klgls, cute table topper and little purse. Did you design it yourself or have a pattern? |
My VQW unfortunately (fortunately?) will have to begin on Monday. Already have plans with DH for the weekend that cannot be changed. Enjoy your VQW everyone...I'll be thinking of you on Monday as I stitch away. Have a BOM block to complete, a top to complete and a few mending repairs (I know not quilting, but needs to be done), so my machine will be humming.
Anita |
My little wallhanging for DGD is coming along. DH is going to reshape my FMQ presser foot tomorrow... so I will finish it then. Tonight I am setting up my cutting station in the living room so I can cut fabric and spend time with DH... two things I enjoy... well, spending time with DH is the greater joy of the two!
I'm going to be working on finishing SIL quilt on the LA. And then doing some embroidery on some quilt blocks.
While cleaning out my spare closet a week or so ago I came across some rail fence blocks I had made at least 6-7 years ago. They needed to be squared up as my sewing was not so good back then. I started putting the together with sashing (so far have solid black sashing, black with white polka dots, white with black polka dots). I have enough squares to make four baby quilts. Haven't decided on the last sashing color yet. I have two completed except borders and hope to work on the rest this weekend between going to garage sales and maybe the movies.
Busy housecleaning and washing today, but I have to get a couch quilt underway (the type to tuck in so the dogs don't rip the leather kind - nothing very fancy). Plan on ironing the fabric today and making tomorrow...still have DIL's string quilt to quilt.....am a bit too tired to wrestle with that monster.....I love these VQ times....keeps us all motivated.
Hope to start an appliqué pattern. Not sure which of many ideas thinking at present.
I didn't even realize this was happening this weekend. But the universe does work in strange ways. The main program we use for accounting at my work crashed today and I was able to finish early with what I could do and came home early, put a table runner on my quilter and got it all finished. I will post pictures tomorrow.
I have guests coming over for supper tomorrow night, so will be spending most of the day cleaning and cooking, but maybe this will inspire me to get down to my quilting room for a few minutes here and there to see what I can get done. Now Sunday should be a day I can get a lot of sewing done, if I am lucky. |
Been to quilt shop and purchased some sticky stuff. Now what shall I do.
Four of us Wed. quilters are going to a one day quilt retreat. Our teacher designed an easy pattern we can get it done in one day.
Morning, I attend quilting classes on Friday afternoons so made a start on the inner of a sewing pouch which I hope to finish today. Then I plan to quilt a Sudoku style quilt made for my oldest brother from clothing belonging to two siblings who died in the last few years. It is noon here now so I need to get out of my pjs and get started but this board is way too tempting lol.
I will be piecing the tie quilt that was posted here a couple of weeks ago. I have had these ties for years, but never found a pattern I liked until this one. I got the ties all taken apart and several blocks made. really like the look. Hope to get the rest cut and than it will be time to pack for the quilt fest in Pigeon Forge this coming week.
