I've been looking for a tin lizzie for some time. I have a mid-arm which is OK but it is an older machine and it will only do edge-to-edge with no stitch regulator. So I was just kind of cruising around on the internet the other day and just happened to call a machine company about a frame. Well it turns out they have a used 18" tin lizzie for $2500!! Big problem I don't have all the money but they will let me lay it away and pay it off over time. It will work on my frame, so I will be good to go soon!! Yea. Winter for me is alittle light for money so it might take me til spring but I'm going to work real hard on rounding up some more money and do it!!

Tell your friends and family members, this Christmas to give you money instead of a gift, so you can put it on Tin Lizzie.

echoemb 10-15-2011 04:00 PM

Great idea. I'll do that!

Try to find a part time job for a few months to save that money for it. Some years back, when I needed some extra money, I worked a full time job Monday -Friday on days. So I got a job for some evenings and weekends-working at a convenience store. I loved it and it gave me the extra money I needed.

echoemb 10-16-2011 06:48 AM

I do that in the summer. I work part time Wed and Sat during the summer. Just wiped out by the time winter comes around. I have plenty of "stuff" to sell. I cleaned out the garage today and found some stuff and I'm going to start working on this. I have another house that I need to consolidate to one house (long story) and I know there is tons of stuff in that house.. I'll make it work now that I have a goal.

I have the Tin Lizzie 18SL and I love it! I don't have room for a large frame so I bought mine with the sit down table. But, someday, when I have a home with larger rooms I can buy the large frame and a conversion kit to use mine as a stand up model machine. FYI...the best thread that I've had luck with is the thread sold on Connecting Threads. Of course...this is the word of a newbie! I just got my machine a few months ago so I haven't experimented with a wide variety of thread, but so far...Connecting Thread has the thread that I've been most successful with on this machine!

thepolyparrot 10-16-2011 06:56 AM

That's terrific! How much fun you're going to have with it! :)

echoemb 10-16-2011 07:01 AM

Thanks for the thread recommendation. I'm still playing with thread on my mid-arm. Haven't had alot of trouble with what I'm using but I appreciate the input.

I had a Tin Lizzie 18LS, too, which I just sold a couple days ago in order to get a 26" throat machine. For cotton threads I used Connecting Threads thread, and Star, and Coats and Clark, Gutterman, and Signature and for Polyestor threads I used Isacord, Coats and Clark, and Gutterman. Those are all threads that worked good for me on my TIn Lizzie. Hope this is helpful. to you as you get started on your "new" Tin Lizzie.

Isn't it nice to know that some companies still care about customers and working with them. I hope you get the money together sooner than you think. I have one a love it. My 10 yr gd is going to use it for a quilt she is making.
