So what do you guys think, more darks or more lights? Should I do all the lights in the center, then all darks around it? It's what I was thinking, but would love more input!

Kyia, yours is looking beautiful and you're an excellent example of what a beginner can do. Good for you for trying it and showing yourself (and all of us) that you can do it!

Putting a piece of the original fabric on the back is a great idea so everyone can see how creative quilters can be with fabric.

I think some of both, and it is hard to say, have you tried different layouts?

Esqmommy 02-13-2010 12:03 PM

no, just threw these up yesterday. I haven't played around much. I'll make the next set and then play again. Might take me a while, depends how much free time I get!

the layout can take the longest in the whole process,

Esq- personally I would say some more dark because your lights are so light. Them in the middle sounds like a great idea.
as far as playing around with them------ there are only a million possibilities so I will probably just throw mine down and call it good!LOL

How lovely to see the quilts take shape! I really like these two, and how different they are - the gentle powderiness of kyia's pieces and the strong light and dark in esqmommy's which makes me think of a dark mossy forest floor with sunrays piercing...

Can't wait to see more, more quilts and more photos of versions of each. My machine needs healing before I can sew, so I'm falling behind again.

OK - Got all the blocks done and sort of hanging on the wall and I HATE it! Going to move them around some more in the morning when there is different light and see if I like it any better. Off to try and make a couple of cubes and see if that will brighten it up a bit. I will post a pic in the morning and see what all of you think.
I love all the blocks you have posted though - just don't like mine....LOL
