Cutebuns!

Happy Valentines Day everyone!

I see a total of 16 total repeats in this fabric. Do you agree? Where do you suggest that I cut it, please? The repeat is 11 1/2 inches from center to center of the orange flower. I don't know that I am going to use this for anything other than practice but if I like it will pick up more when we go to town on Tuesday!

Thanks so much for your help!

Beautiful fabric, Handsome assistant <wave> I would plan on picking up more fabric on Tuesday <g>

The fabric is pretty wild for me but I think the DGD will love it and, as it seems, nothing comes out like you would expect in this project, I decided to go for wild!

That assistant is the bestest! Don't know what I would do without him!

Here it is. I am making more cube blocks but I still don't like it! What do you think? Can't get a very good pic - dark dull day here today.
Instead of turning me off I just want to try another...LOL I will get this right yet.

I have the same fabric and I loved it as fabric, but not enough lights in it... What can we do??? I have just started sewing my hexagons... I also like each block but I am afraid that it is just to dark... I will send photos when I get more done...

 bailey I like your blocks a lot. What specifically do you not like about it? If we know that might help for coming up with more useful suggestions...

Bailey, I think it's beautiful! The only thing I would do is move the two dark blocks in the upper left quadrant down with the other dark ones! Then it might flow from lighter to darker. I think the colors are gorgeous but then I'm the one that always seems to lean towards the darker colors and need to change that!

If it's too dark for your liking here's a couple of things you could play with.

You could turn the rarity of strong highlights into a design feature. E.g. place the block with the strongest highlight in/near the centre (in bailey's case I'd give the one with the small yellow flower a go), and huddle all the other black ones around it, darkest inwards and lighter outwards. Then go lighter and lighter towards the edge, and maybe use a black border to set off the lighter values nearer the border.

If you have more fabric, you could cut more blocks to give you more of a choice about which ones to use.
Leaving out the very black ones will make the whole thing a softer medium.
Leaving out blocks with lots of grey will let all those beautiful subtle colours shine a bit more.
Having more blocks in total (if that's an option for you size-wise) will allow you to blend them all more into each other.

Not saying any of this is needed! Just following your wish for light... :-) Looking forward to your photos, too.

Thanks but I am not sure it can be made brighter. I think what I am not liking is it is muddy. Here is another pic with the cubes moved down.
