STAR 02-08-2010 07:03 PM

I looked at it a couple of times and when I saw this project I knew I had to try it! It helped that it was on clearance for $4 a yard, I will be goingto but the rest of the bolt this weekend!

cutebuns 02-08-2010 07:04 PM

So you can cut from about 3 1/2 to about 4 1/4 but not 4. You don't want to hit the repeat right on and 4 is a multiple of 24.

STAR 02-08-2010 07:08 PM

THANX!! I will cut now! talk to you tomorrow to get help with the triangle cuts

ok here are the 2 rulers that I have that have the 60 degree mark, will either one work and how? I couldn't get it to look like the pic

cutebuns 02-09-2010 07:11 AM

They should both work. Line up the line that says 60 degrees ( not the thin side) with the bottom edge of the strip and that will give you your angle. Try on a piece of paper even if you just use a pencil to draw it out.

That is exactly how I did it to get it to work in my brain. I cut it out of paper 1st.

cutebuns 02-09-2010 07:24 AM

It is easier than maybe messing up the fabric. You can use newsprint or something else cheap. Just clean the ruler before using it on fabric if you use newpaper as the ink sometimes sticks to things it shouldn't.

krazy4quilts 02-09-2010 07:32 AM

By the way Cute, your sig line saying, I just love it, My now 6 yr old grandson would do that last year, he would bring me dandelions and say.............Nana I picked these pretty flowers for you, can we plant them. Out to the yard we would go planting dandelions.

Star, our fabrics are a bit similar...I have no pink though. Let me go get the camera and post a few of mine too!

Here are a few of mine - similar to Star's!

STAR 02-09-2010 09:16 AM

OOOOHH I love your also! do you have a pic before you cut it??

I am usually not a pink fan but I just loved this material, probably the black that pulled me in, and it was clearance,LOL

yours are cut so perfect looks like that fabric was made for a OBW!

Esqmommy 02-09-2010 09:21 AM

My original was posted here, page 6:

http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-35100-6.htm

Our fabrics are so similar star...just an asian print with crysanthemums and black background. Yours has lots of pink too, and it will be perfect!! I love the way your blocks are looking. Isn't it wild how different they come out from the original fabric?

STAR 02-09-2010 09:29 AM

Yes! they are so close  :-D we have great taste!!
At first I left them the way I cut them just to see and then I started moving them around to decide what way I liked best. Can't wait to finish up cutting!

I really like how some of yours form a neat "star' like pattern when put together  what a variety.
I think once I get this down i will have to make more for sure! I guess I really like the whole one fabric thing ;)

amma 02-09-2010 10:12 AM

Oooo Star and Esqmommy!!! Your blocks are beautiful :D:D:D

STAR 02-09-2010 12:51 PM

Thanx Amma

Esqmommy 02-09-2010 04:28 PM

Thanks Amma!!! I like 'em too. All of 'em...everybody's. This is such a fun block to make and check out. I can't wait to see how all our quilts come out!

Blue Bell 02-09-2010 05:58 PM

Everybody's blocks are wonderful. All I need is a ruler and fabric and I can join. No shopping tomorrow------S N O W

athenagwis 02-09-2010 06:28 PM

Okay so I am also a little late to the boat, but I decided to give this a try. I had some fabric that I've had hanging around for a few years that I didn't really like, and figured if I screwed this up royally I won't really care! :) I *think* I actually like how it turned out, though it may have been better with a smaller triangle, but I wasn't interested in that much sewing if I wasn't in love with this. :)

Here's my original fabric:

And here is a block auditioned two ways (I like them both, but I think I'm going to go with the circle one.)

And here are 3 of my blocks together:

I still have another half of fabric to cut and then I will get to sewing them together. I don't think I have enough fabric to make a big blanket, but maybe it'll be a nice baby blanket ....

Thanks!
Rachel

STAR 02-09-2010 06:32 PM

that looks really cute!

Janstar 02-09-2010 06:38 PM

That turned out really cute!

cutebuns 02-09-2010 06:38 PM

I think that they are turning out very cute, I think it would be a great kids or baby blanket.

Janstar 02-09-2010 06:40 PM

Star and ESQ, I love your fabric! There's something about those beautiful flowers. They should turn out great!

athenagwis 02-09-2010 06:44 PM

Thanks everyone! When I first cut em and set them up, I thought it was too much blue, but I think it'll look cute in the end, can't wait to get them on my design wall and play with placement!! :) Funny how this can turn a fabric I dislike into something I like!! :)

Cheers!
Rachel

I got my fabric, yipee.
Here it is, it has a 17 1/2 inch repeat in the length of the fabric and a 12 inch repeat across the width of the fabric, I have 4 yards.
If you could give me some idea on where to cut I would really appreciate it.
Do I cut at 17.5 inches 6 times?
Thank you so much for doing this for us, sorry about the dumb questions but I don't want to muck this up.

cutebuns 02-10-2010 06:26 AM

You are not so much cutting a measurement but design at this point. See where the measuring tape is right by the light blue circle. Pick something lime that to follow and cut the print in the same place. ( if you have 12 or more repeats, every other one)
