do you have 6 repeats on the length?

cutebuns 02-01-2010 02:12 PM

if you have 6 repeats on the length, you don't need to worry about the width ones,

krazy4quilts 02-01-2010 02:19 PM

the best i can get is 4 in the length once down the center
that is with the same flower, I can get other repeats with other flowers.

cutebuns 02-01-2010 02:25 PM

so are you using the fabric from the other thread or do you have a different piece?

ok! now I see, great pics and instructions.

so I can cut my fabric two wide and three tall to get my six pieces :-D and I dont need to stager since the repeats are square.

I think I can do this :-D

bailey 02-01-2010 02:50 PM

OK. I am trying to follow along at work so I am ready to put my fabric layers together and cut when I get home but I am confused! Here is a link to the fabric I am using.
http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-35100-7.htm the floral one.

Do I cut the fabric into 22" pieces width wise (on the fold) and then on the repeats lengthwise so I am working with 22" by 24" (24" repeat)pieces of fabric? Is a 3 3/4" triangle a good size to cut? Hope you can understand my question.

Thanks, sorry I am so confused.

deranged_damsel 02-01-2010 02:50 PM

I also have a bugs on yellow if the stripe gives me to much trouble, I might cut them both up anyways to get more finished hexs

Mimi Sharon, here is where I see your repeat, the orange circles, there should be one more where the picture cuts off right near the edge. on the right side. How many lengthwise repeats do you have?

mimisharon 02-01-2010 03:00 PM

I have 6 of those repeats from end to end. There are three repeats across the fabric. Am I good to go or should I choose another fabric?

cutebuns 02-01-2010 03:02 PM

so you need to figure out how many you have to get the biggest pieces cut, I have marked the repeat on what is an easy repeat, how many blue snails do you have down the edge?

cutebuns 02-01-2010 03:07 PM

you just need 6 of them Sharon, if you have a full 6 repeats lengthwise, you can cut your fabric in half lengthwise, so you have two piece each with the 6 repeats,

mimisharon 02-01-2010 03:08 PM

woohoo, going to cut now, lengthwise first, then the repeats. Have I told you "I love you?" I do, mean it!

do I need to go buy another rule?

Hugs

so the cut edges are up and down and the salvage are on the sides, the red is the first cut line, the pink are the repeats, (no they are not even. )

cutebuns 02-01-2010 03:14 PM

is the tirangle a 60 degree one? check it with the mark on your other ruler, and if it isn't you can use the one with the 60 degree mark. it is hard to tell from here,

I will be back, I have to pick up Dh from work, I will make him drive home and I can use my phone, no pictures until I get back home though.

some of you will have repeats like this, you want to cut as many as you can and still have it manageable with the fabric that you have. (different colors are for different repeats types, but you would want to cut on the pink, it will save a lot of time and scraps in the long run.,

BKinCO 02-01-2010 03:24 PM

Oh, dang, Cutie~ I'm posting a pic of my fabric on here tomorrow so you can help me with all the repeat confusion. You rock!!!!

SharonC 02-01-2010 03:48 PM

Okay - I've got up my nerve to cut (tear) down the middle and I'm headed to go do it before I back out :).
Thanks CB. You're making this much less painless than I thought it would be. :) :)

cutebuns 02-01-2010 04:07 PM

It is not a problem. I am glad that it at least gives you the nudge to do it. Once you have it figured out, it it like breathing. So easy. I will look at anyone and everyones fabric that needs me to.

cutebuns 02-01-2010 04:39 PM

Awesome. Now the hard part Sharon. Lining up your six repeats as close as you can. Along the edge. Find an easy spot to recognize a tip of leaf or corner. Stick a pin through all the layers in exactly the same spot.

mimisharon 02-01-2010 04:39 PM

We're having a party, a cutting party. We're having a party and Cutie is our wonderful teacher! Wooo wooo hoooo!

Oh, crap! Here I go......

cutebuns 02-01-2010 04:43 PM

Do this in several places along each side. If you are really careful, you can fully pin it. But you have to make sure that you don't shift your layers when poking them back up through.

mimisharon 02-01-2010 04:45 PM

ok, question umpteen:

pin along cut sides and both ends? pin in middle, too?

cutebuns 02-01-2010 04:52 PM

Just the edges. The middle should line up if the edges are matched. Some when printed are a little off so a tug here and there sometimes to make them lay flat. When cutting your strips you will be able to see if it is lined up along the way.

mimisharon 02-01-2010 04:54 PM

OK, off to get my silk pins and get the blues together.

Hugs

Looking good Amma!

Kyiav10 02-01-2010 05:02 PM

Everyone is doing so well!! I won't be able to cut until later this week, maybe weekend. A few questions in the mean time.

I bought the triangle ruler that mimisharon has pictured. Along with it came a 60* ruler. I'll take a photo of them later tonight.

Is the 60* ruler needed? or just the triangle ruler?

What size should I be using in ruler. I think something was mentioned in different size hexes depending on print? What size should me hex triangles be?

I think I can cut my fabric ok. I will look at it over this week and post any questions that I may have before cutting. Will three yards be enough? I hope so, it was the last of the bolt.

Thank you for all of your help and putting this tute together. Is there a supply list that I can look at to make sure I have everything when I go to store this week?

Thanks again, Kyia

cutebuns 02-01-2010 05:07 PM

When I get hoMe I will go and look. Keep reading and more will become clear. I will take pictures of what I doing then as well

So I have to cut the middle where the red line is? I'm not just cutting the repeats by WOF?

Kyia

cutebuns 02-01-2010 05:18 PM

The issues with using the whole width at once is that spread out it is just to wide to cut. And folded the bottom that you can't see may be off and you won't get it straight accross the same way and not on an angle.

amma 02-01-2010 05:23 PM

I am pinned :D:D:D
I put the pins straight down first and let them dangle off of the table, then I put pins inbetween those reference spots. I think that I got them fairly straight...

cutebuns 02-01-2010 05:25 PM

* jumping up and down for Amma!*. Way to go!!!!!

amma 02-01-2010 05:31 PM

WooHoo....I am 1/10th of the way there LMBO :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

amma 02-01-2010 05:34 PM

I think the pinning went easier finding a reference point first and going straight down, one strip at a time... I did all of the vertical pins first and then pinned the strips together. I did the same to the opposite end too. They lay pretty nice, straight and flat...keeping fingers crossed the rest goes as easily  :lol::lol:
