Finally I have borders on! Yay! And I'm loving it again now, especially with its skinny brown border (thanks again k3n and everybody!! you are one cool bunch of ladies) and the orange swirls. So all's good except...

There's a funny thing going on with the top, I can't seem to get it to lie properly flat. It's not actually as bad as it looks in the pics below (I can get it to lie flat and smooth when I tape it down taut), but... :?

I've measured the border length through the centre of the quilt, and remeasured after putting them on, the sizes are correct. The miter angles are also correct. As far as I can make out it's the centre that is somewhat bubbly and keeps pulling the borders out of whack. I've pressed it loads, but perhaps still not enough?

Wondering what to do, whether I can risk sandwiching it as it is (for MQ on my domestic), whether any of you experienced ones has suggestions or other quilt magic?!?! :cry: :cry:

On a fun side note, while I was looking for border matches for my cheetah top and for my B&W (coming soon...) I did a bit of a mini "ugly fabric test" - just to see what's possible. Loved the colors in the fabric but not the actual images. The hexagons look rather wonky because I was in a hurry, just playing, not planning to use this for anything, plus I cut strips only 1.5'' wide (to be as sure as I could to eliminate the look of the original design elements...).

Now I wish I could get more of the dark purple-green border fabric to make a larger version! :roll: :lol:

Beautiful! Gorgeous! I have the same situation with mine but I'm thinking it's the many junctions of the stitching. I think I'm going to layer it differently next week and try to get some of it to look as if I planned it that way....

Why not try using Magic Spray Sizing...
Press it while it's held taut...the way you want it...spray it...press it and then let it cool and dry...see if that takes care of the wonky parts.

You might just need to starch and then press (not iron) it some more. Douse it good...let it dry or use a pressing cloth. Its probably all the bulk of the seams.

Another thing to consider is the number of times you have folded it up and put it away somewhere .... every time you fold, usually through the middle, on bias edges? possible cause of a bit of stretching.
Something I ALWAYS remind myself is: When someone gets to snuggling under it .. the puffy places won't really be noticed <g>

Putting borders on anything can be tricky, different people have different tricks to make them work for them,

Love the mini, the landscape that I did I used around that size, it was a lot of fun, though I was chasing little pieces all over the place, they were harder to keep in line when I did the layout, there was also a whole bunch more blocks to deal with but it was worth it,

Your flowered fabric looks a lot like one I have (but different colors) from Robert Kaufman. Have you checked their website for it?
Back to your problem with the center rippling- have you tried starching it?

Just a note for future OBW's...if you press the seams open, there is much less bulk and the whole thing lies nice and flat...
I know there is controversy about pressing seams open...but on these quilts it makes a HUGE difference.
I love all the quilts you've made...you've really inspired lots of folks to give it a try.
