LOL tell the quilt to kiss your nose (had to keep it clean !LOL) I have tied many a quilt, and think its the greatest. My first ever quilt was between 2 sheets w/ batting sewn together then tied. I was hooked on quilting every since; but too many people think their way is the right way. We are all unique; so are our ideas.

When I was a child my mother, grandmother and great aunt would get together to make quilts out of scraps of fabric from the clothing my mother made us. They would tie the quilts with yarn and they were wonderful quilts, full of great memories.

I would also like to know the name of the book. A dear Lady I knew tied all of her quilts. If she was still alive she would be in her late 90's. So I never knock down anybody for the way they want to make a quilt.

When I use flannel or fleece in a quilt, I like to tie them. It is so much easier to tie them, and they are more cuddly to me when I do.
To tie them my grandma taught me to pick the spot to stitch, insert the needle to take a stitch, (down, then up about an eight inch away, then down the same place and up in the same place, then tie a 'surgeons knot') "Surgeons knot" explained- right over left and through, through again, tighten, left over right and through again, and again, and tightened. Surgeon's knot made. |
I forgot to say that a surgeons knot will not untie during use or laundering. Remember to match your tying fiber to your quilt fiber for best results. (Polyester fibers will eventually cut through cotton fibers.)

I tie all of mine. Quilting is pretty but it makes the quilt too flat. I like fat quilts.

I used to tie all my quilts before I got the long arm. My daughter still prefers tied quilts with high loft poly batting over anything. She likes all her quilts, but she likes them fluffy and soft. I on the other hand will quilt everything I use. I like the texture and the crinkly look after it is washed.

My mom made all 17 of her grandchildren a scrap quilt using nothing but 5" square and I helped her tie every one of them..she's gone now..but the grandchildren loved their quilts. I have some of hers that she tied also...they are nice and fluffy and warm...

O.K., you ladies have talked me into trying a tied quilt. Thanks
