I had the same choice back in December - bought a very inexpensive sectional set off of Craigslist, then got a new quilt frame & stitch regulator. Don't regret it either - plus the fur baby puppy chewed on the 'new' sectional so I'm especially happy I didn't spend much on it.

this is a tough decision! i know in my house...we are REALLY hard on our family room furniture. in fact, i could really use new. but it's leather and with kids and dogs, leather is great.

Depends on what your needs and wants comparison looks like. Do you need a new machine or just want one... Do you need new furniture or just want it. ... Tough call. When it come to this type of decison ask yourself .. in one year what will be the outcome... will you still need new furniture that has now deteriorated even more and no money to purchase, and a machine that is nice .. but you still can use the old one? Is this purchase going be using $$$ that may not come aound again for a few years??
I have a similiar situation with my carpet... I deperately need .. and I do mean NEED new carpet.... but anew machine has been on my list as well. My current machine will work just fine probably for the next 5 years or more.... Even though I would get lots of use out of a new machine ... the carpet just has to be the top of the list ... one more year, if not more of this carpet and I will be down to the plywood underneath. |
Unless I was reduced to sitting on pop crates, I think I'd go for the quilting machine.:)

Quilting machine!!! Unless you truly *need* - as in no where to sit - the furniture ... there's always slip covers and Joann's has foam in case the furniture needs a bit of a fix

I'm with Mary Stoaks. What a good excuse to quilt and not have to give them all away.

I agree with everyone else. If you really NEED the furniture then get it. If you don't really need it and hubby is on board, definitely get the machine!

perfect answer - I love it! |
I would go with the new furniture myself unless your machine isn't what you need. If can get by on your machine, get the furniture. You'll be happier in the end, IMHO.

Do you really need a quilting machine? Will your furniture withstand another year of wear? Why not replace your furniture a piece at a time. Good luck on your decision.
