i look at myself your beautiful Quilts for some time. I noticed that nearly all Quilts make with traditional design.
Sew some of you also modern Art-quilts?

There are a few very talented people in here who make art quilts. The majority are more traditional though. Do you have any photos of your work?

I do traditional quilts. Never tried anything else really. Welcome.

My current projekt is an applique with muppet (is not really a artquilt, but it is not traditional also, or? )

i'm an Art Quilter but i prefer to say i'm a Contemporary Quilt Artist since i think all quilts are a work of art.

the only difference to me is either its traditional or contemporary but its all art.

I am more of a traditional quilter. I hope to dabble someday in the "Art" style of quilting.

Guess I would have to call myself a traditional quilter as I mostly make the "old fashioned looking quilts" even though I do also like the more modern one's when I see them all made up. Just don't think I know how to pick the right color and fabric or pattern for the modern look. :cry:

Your Sesame Street guys are adorable!! I love how you used the fake fur. Oscar is my fav, too!

ETA- For the person looking for a pattern for Sesame Street characters- I made my son an Elmo quilt and I used a coloring book and just enlarged the picture. Then I used flannels and fleece to cut the shapes out of and appliqued them on.

Wonderful Muppet blocks. Welcome from a traditional quilter whose goal is to make as many of the traditional blocks as she can. (I can dream, can't I?) I have made one landscape quilt wall hanging.

Your blocks are adorable. I have been doing this for 40 years and have tried everything. I have boxes and trunks full of my work. It ranges from placemats to queensize quilts. While my greatest love is the handquilting process I also love playing with the decorative stitches on my machines and wonderful fancy threads etc. I have a twin size quilt I made with some of my collection of oriental fabrics that is done crazy quilt style using embroidered pieces as the center of each block. It is also embelished with everything I could think of. The last border is made of dimensional half circles of red sateen fabric to resemble oriental coins.
Quilting is what ever you want it to be. I have seen works that incorporated metal, plastic and even wood.
It doesn't have to be your grandmother's blanket.

I, too, am a more traditional quilter, but I LOVE your Sesame Street blocks. They are fantastic and you did a wonderful job. Love the different textured fabrics you used. Some child is going to be soooo lucky!

First, your work is wonderful no matter what category it is placed. The embellishing lights up the characters!

I consider myself a contemporary quilter like Klue's term for herself - though don't claim to have her skill! I do a lot of contemporary interpretations of traditional quilting. That includes purses, totes, table runners, etc. as well as some arty wall hanging pieces.
I also have amassed a large amount of the Art Quilter's tools and embellishments to stretch my skills and enjoy more original creative design pieces. I feel fortunate to be able to - cross the lines - back and forth to admire and appreciate both worlds, as well as add my two cents worth of ability to each!

I'm a non-traditional quilt artist and, like Klue, I believe all quilts are art. I find it much more rewarding to come up with my own style and interpretation of even the most traditional quilt patterns, but more often than not, my designs are inspired by abstract art works of the early 20th century or based on optical illusion/dimensional concepts.

I do use traditional piecing methods, I just prefer not to remake what someone else has already done. :oops: As a 12th generation New Englander, however, I have an enormous appreciation for all styles of traditional and antique quilts.

I love the Sesame Street blocks. They are wonderful. Great job on all of them. They will make a beautiful quilt.

Colouring books are a great source for pictures, but you can also get them on the net and print them out.... just google something along the lines of "kids colouring pages". There are millions of downloadable pictures from cartoons and muppets, etc, to butterflys, flowers, and animals. :-)

First of all, I love the sesame characters, they are adorable!

Secondly, I think I am going to have to ask others to help me out in saying what kind of quilter that I am, because I have no idea what to call myself other than nuts! :mrgreen:

Third - Had to say I had the pleasure of staying in your country for 71/2 years and absolutely loved it--miss it so much I intend to vacation there in a few years :)

I like semi art quilts. Not the ones that look like a mish mash of glaring color. I love the scenic art quilts and real/still life depicted with fabric and thread. Very few traditional quilts gets my attention unless the fabric design and color are outstanding to me.

That is a wonderful quilt. I tried the technique already times. It is so laborious. i gave up. I am too impatient for it. I admire your patience.
In german the technique calls Kaleidoscop. How is the english translation?

I didn't find it so, it is called the same thing, or a one block wonder, it is a stack and wack. many names. Most are not done with more than one fabric but I did a landscape with them. I love them, Just need to learn to cut the pieces bigger. I am wondering why you find it laborious? ( I am not patient, I am persistant!)

I am a beginning quilter. I am starting with the traditional blocks, hand piecing and hand quilting, but at some point I hope to do some contemporary styles and even art quilts.

I'm not one of those who thinks all quilts are automatically art. But a lot of them, including the traditional ones, are art. I also think that some quilts using traditional blocks and motifs have a very contemporary spin.
