two years ago, someone gave me a box of scraps and most of the pieces were small....
she said, all you have to do is sew them together and keep sewing them together.... I got so much joy from picking and sorting from all the fabric ,which piece I wanted next.... well I made a big quilt top....it was a crazy quilt sorta....maybe just rag pieces sewn together. But till this day I am so proud of it.... When I go visit my friend and see her prized quilts, sometimes I see some of the same fabric, that I have in my quilt at home, all from the precious box of scraps she gave me....and the simple instructions.... "keep sewing them together" Darlene. One person's scrap is another's stash.....then again all of it is a treasure! |
What a cool thing, Darlene. And so nice of your friend to gift you with these scraps. I love scrappy quilts the best, so would love going through a pile of scraps like that, too.
|
do you have pics?
Sounds interesting |
I'd love to see a picture too! This reminds me of an idea I had recently to start collecting fabric during my marriage (I'm a newlywed) so that I could make a memory quilt after a few years. Or maybe make a block each year and keep adding them to one another. That way when we hit 20 years, we'll have a full sized quilt.

I'd love to see a picture. And thanks! I know what to do with my to small scraps. :D

scrappies are my favorite so i too would love to see it :D
|
What a great story. It only goes to prove that we quilters can get lots of joy out of scraps. I would love to see a pic of your quilt.
|
Great idea. Just sew scraps together til you reach the right size.
8) Lets see some pictures. |
This is neat - there are several of us here that quilt - we should do this for each other - a box of scraps for each person in our 'group.' and at the end of a year or more say, "Just keep on sewing." to each other. I actually take (when I remember!!) a scrap of each piece from each quilt and add it to a LONG chain of scraps - I will eventually use it somehow to make a quilt - with rows of pieces (I just add strips, not shapes) together with sashing in between or cut them into squares and just piece it together as best I can... :) And then the binding will be the 'leftover' bindings I am also collecting!! :)

I have a box and its not very full. i keep adding to it and hope one day i too can "just sew the together"
|
TX cutie, another idea for the memory quilt. I buy some fabric each time we take a trip, something to remind me of that place. Right now, it's just part of my stash, but I plan to have a square for each journey (someday).
|
I would love to see a pic!
|
what a sweet story, Darlene.
You make quilting sound so dreamy...but it is, isn't it? I dream of quilts day and night  |
It is unanimous....we want to see pix!
Scrap quilts are so kewl, I love to make the 'crumb blocks' also knows and 'mile-a-minute' blocks...totally scrappy but sometimes I love adding a 'fussy cut' piece into each block. can't wait to see your photo! warm quilt hugs, sue in CA |
Darlene I loved your story too. What a great memories and you must think of your friend whenever you look at the quilt. Welcome, glad you joined. Definetly we have to see a picture.
