Tri-recs ruler
I wanted this set of rulers and waited until JoAnns had a good sale. I bought them, now I don't know what pattern I wanted them for. What quilt patterns are these used for please? Refresh my memory or please send a link to a pattern for them. Thanks-Toogie

Storm at sea is one pattern made easier by these rulers--the long-pointed triangles in the outer pieces of each block. "Long triangles" as opposed to the 45-90-45 degree triangles in the rest of the block. https://www.quiltingboard.com/clear.gif

Do you need any other ruler to make a Storm at Sea?

Bonnie Hunter used them in her mystery quilts. I think she has her own ruler now. I think they are mainly used for the triangle in a square. Very handy for that.

Tennessee Waltz uses these rulers. It's on my to do list. Pinterest has lots of examples. Here's a link to one so you can see what it looks like but changing the color placements can really change it up. https://www.pinterest.com/pin/337770040788685221/

I just saw a cute block using tri-recs.

The 54-40 or fight block uses the TIS unit, and is featured in several quilts. Liz Porter made a quilt for her daughter called Emily's Wedding quilt that used the block, and Tennessee Walts also uses it.

Tennessee Waltz is just 54-40 or Fight combined with an alternate Snowball block. I was first introduced to in Judy Martin's Scrap Quilts book which really changed my quilting career. I had never seen a scrap quilt I liked prior to it, and now some 30 years later almost all my quilts are scrappy.
I show one of my unfinished tops and tell the story here: https://www.quiltingboard.com/pictur...ml#post8250489 I think this one done by Cattitude is gorgeous! She alternated with 9-patches. https://www.quiltingboard.com/pictur...l-t305161.html |

Tri Rec rulers turn up on my guild's free table a lot. One package of the rulers had a book with with patterns from Darlene Zimmerman, the designer of the rulers, called Quilts to Come Home To that used the rulers. One guild member made every pattern in the book over a year as a free table challenge. She put the book and rulers back on the free table after one year. The quilts were stunning! Forgot to say she made some patterns crib size, not all were large quilts.

I wanted to chuckle when I read your question. I have done the same thing.

There was a mystery quilt that used the Tri Recs ruler that was really nice. It was on FB.
If you think that was the one I can get the link for you. Watson |
I did a huge clean up of my sewing room last week and found 2 of her rulers. Have no idea what I bought them for so I'm going to go on her site and find out :)
