I also trim as I quilt. Much easier for me to see then. I don't bury threads so I trim those as soon as I get past them. I use a sawing motion with the scissors unless I can see the threads really well. I quilt on a DSM and have to stop often to remove large safety pins and puddle the quilt.

So many different ways that all work for us.

I try to clip and go, but these little bug-a-boos seem to have an excessive dose of growth hormone. They just keep appearing. :D It never fails that when I get a piece back from the long-armer, there are random little threads beautifully quilted into the pattern.

I just spent one and a half days ( off and on) fixing long stitches on my string quilt when my machine kept messing up. Cleaning my encoders was a helpful tip for me and the reason it kept skipping. And because it was a blue and white quilt there were plenty of strings to cut from the backside before sandwiching together. Wish a little magical fairy would come in at night and do this for me. But it's done and doesn't have to be perfect because it's for me and will get lot's of use when I sit in my chair this winter.

I trim seam threads as soon as they have been sewn, and that means the beginning threads if I haven't used a leader there. Whenever I see a stray thread, it's gone; right now.

I was once asked to watch a vender's booth for a while, and I picked threads as I sat there. She was not happy with me. Yes, I probably shouldn't have touched her stuff, but I couldn't stand it. She seemed to like all her stuff on display with loose threads on it.

I actually enjoy trimming at the very end of making a quilt. I fold it into quarters and sit down with the quilt on my lap and carefully go over each section to trim threads and make sure there are no problems. After doing the front, I refold it into quarters with the backing up, and then I trim the back. This time spent with the quilt helps me feel it is good, and I have a little "closure" time with it before sending it on to it's new home. One last chance to make sure it is filled with love and positive things!

I am a trimmer as I go. I just hate seeing all those threads hanging everywhere. And that's back and front. Even then I will miss some and find them when I start the quilting. Also, I stitch all my seams with a 2.0 stitch length. That has helped with the seams not opening up. If I have a quilt with a lot of seams on the edges, I have been known to staystitch the whole quilt before I load it on the long arm. That stretching action has pulled some of my edges apart before. I don't usually have this problem because I use single fabric borders.

I trim and press as I go, but still have threads to deal with. For some reason it is a bigger issue with borders than with small piecing of blocks.
