Trim as I quilt
 

I trim any stray threads as I am quilting. I know I will have a hard time finding them later. I also put a tiny safety pin in any to long stitches to fix at the end of each row and tie off my thread ends and bury them. It is much easier to clip threads as you go. I also trim each side (leaving 1/2 inch on edges) after it is quilted to eliminate the weight of the quilt going through the machine. The final square-up is easier too.

I try to for the very reasons you stated. sometimes i get lazy which isn't lazy since it does make work later on trying to trim the back side and get all the threads.

Yes, I do for piecing immediately. Not so much when I used to quilt.

I try to trim as I go too. I also put safety pins in places that need attention.

I trim the front side of the quilt after it's washed. Lots of those pesky threads come out in the laundry. I don't trim the back of the top very aggressively. I try to remove any dark threads that might show up under light fabrics, but I don't obsess over them very much.

Another thing I do. I don't actually "cut" the threads. I bring the scissors down to the fabric, put some tension on the thread and just push the V of the scissors blades into the thread. That cuts the thread without risking cutting the quilt, because you never actually move the blades across one another. I read too many horror stories of quilters snipping holes in their quilts while trimming threads. I decided it would never happen to me.

I trim after squaring up blocks, then when I pin baste my sandwich.....and then again when I am quilting. They sure are good at hiding!

Yes I do that too. It’s annoying when you’re quilting and having to stop to do it at that stage.

I bury my threads as I go but I don't usually have threads coming out of my seams
because I starch my fabric heavily before cutting.
