Trouble at the Koi Pond
1 Attachment(s)
I'm working on this for a local animal rescue organization to raffle for a fund raiser. I still need to add eye shine and whiskers on the cats. Before I quilt it, should I add butterflies, flowers, or another border? It seems a little dull to me.
This quilt is based on We Bearly Made It from Java House quilts. I drew cats to use instead of the bears and added a couple of pups. |
Wow! That is so cute. They are going to love it. I like it as is. I could see quilting butterflies, flowers, etc in the background.
I hope we get to see the finished quilt. Your cats and dogs are wonderful. |
I like it like it is. So very clever. I love it. Once it is quilted it will have more action.

Dull? Oh no, it's fabulous!!! I absolutely love it
I like it the way it is. I think adding anything else would detract from your great appliques already there.

That is so cute.
it looks good the way it is. I'd use a dark blue for the binding, maybe. and quilting in butterflies would add more interest.
I don't think it needs anything but a dark blue binding. Adorable as it is.
When you say dull do you mean as in lack of brightness? You surely can't mean boring because it is not. How about using the darkest purple from your L C blocks to bind and also quilt it with a pinky/lavender thread to coordinate with the lightest pinky/lavender log? It doesn't seem to need another border to me but then what do I know?
I like it as is, and as some others have mentioned, quilting in butterflies would be an excellent way to get them in without taking focus away from the dogs, cats and fish. A dark binding would then frame it nicely.

That is wonderful as is!
Butterflies to pull some interest to the center. Post a pic of your finished
Add the butterflies through the quilting. And dragonflies and maybe water lilies but all as quilting motifs.
I think it is wonderful as is. You are very talented.
Purr-fectly Cute!
Did you decide about a border? Can we see what a thin strip of the dark purple looks like next to the quilt. Perhaps a 1 1/2 inch or even 2 inch dark border would set it off and frame it. |
Ok, I will take a differing view. No to butterflies, they do not fit with fish, cats and dogs. Maybe dragonflies as they are often found near fish ponds. Birds would also fit.
I love it as it is. |
That is adorable! It's certainly not dull! I love it!
I love it , it's so cute .....
It's SOOO cute.
So darling! I love it as it is.
It's beautiful just as it is! However, if YOU feel it needs a little extra pop, a few serene lily pads using a little pink floating in the pond might give you what you are looking for. It appears to have pink or lavender worked into the border that might be just what you are looking for.
A total winner and sure to do well!!!
This quilt is anything but dull. It is adorable! You go ahead with whatever you plan to quilt on it. They are going to love it.
That is just too cute, I'd keep it as is, there's plenty going on.
How gorgeous it is! Why not quilt cat and dog prints all round the edge, as if they have been chasing about. You could use one tone for cat prints and a darker tone for doggy prints. Whatever you decide it will shine. Lovely work.
Wonderful! I like it as it is now. I think butterflies and/or flowers would distract the pattern you've created. Good job.
I think anything else would be a distraction. Leave it as is.....it's adorable!
Oh my gosh that is a fantastic quilt. I would not add anything else just the quilting will set everything off.
Your quilt is just darling, they will love it!
Very nice quilt. I think it is beautiful just the way it is.
Bahaha! When I first read this, I thought, uh, oh, another koi pond where the egrets are getting the fish! Then I remembered that isn't about quilting, so it would be moved, so I clicked to see what kind of koi pond problem you were having. And I agree with everyone else, no problem here. I can see what you mean, I think we are used to more things going on and not such large empty spaces (in the border.) But, I agree that when it is quilted, the quilting stitches will take care of it.
Just have to say that your quilt is fabulous the way it is. Your animals are so true to life. The focus of the quilt should stay on your great appliques, so I vote to not add a thing but the quilting design.

Love your quilt. Sometimes you can put too much and I think quilting a few butterflies in the border would be enough. Just my thoughts.
We're in the mountains. The LQS is Bear Paw. The pattern had bears and fishes. Love yours.

I love the corgi coming to the rescue! Second the idea of water lilies and dragonflies.
I think I would leave it alone and let the quilting give it the finishing touches. But if you must...no butterflies but I like the idea of paw prints or dragonflies.
