Okay, get ready for this one. What is the one thing that you have too much of? If it's fabric, be as specific as you dare......in my case it's blue fabric. I re-bought (don't you love that word) some fabric that I'd already purchased only a few months ago. Blue, of course, because having twice as much blue as any other color is not something I should consider before making a purchase. I guess if there's still some of that same blue at the LQS, I'll probably buy some more. If it's on sale, I'll buy a full yard!

Your turn.....what do you have too much of?

frauhahn 04-13-2011 02:22 PM

flowered fabric-but I didn't buy it-I inherited it. I'm just not a flowery-sort of quilter!

gunny148 04-13-2011 02:23 PM

peices lots of small peices, i have walmart bags full i know i have 4 just at my cutting table alone, quilting sharps i have more on my wall than Hobby Lobby has.

isnthatodd 04-13-2011 02:25 PM

Maybe small pieces of batting. I should find a project that uses small pieces in some sort of quilt as you go quilt. Then again, they are stored on the top shelf out of the way in my fabric room, so there's no hurry!

emerald46 04-13-2011 02:26 PM

I absolutely could not believe how much blue fabric I had stashed away when I did my big destash earlier this year. I gave away several banker boxes full of fabric and more than 50% of it was some shade of blue!! My other problem--yellow quilter pins...I can see 5 big boxes, 1 tomato and a red magnetic holder full from my chair. There are probably some in the x-sewing room upstairs as well but can't climb stairs for another couple of weeks.

Rose L 04-13-2011 02:27 PM

Ideas. I have more ideas than I'm ever going to get to in my lifetime!

TonnieLoree 04-13-2011 02:31 PM

Hideous print corduroy. Two different prints. I should start using them as backings for wall-hangings or table runners. Hey, I think my mom gave that stuff to me. Would that be considered re-gifting?

Quiltforme 04-13-2011 02:34 PM

I have an issue with insomnia and when you mix pain pills with it my mind is well lets just say I tend to get a lot of surprises. I have ordered the same fabric books etc all the time. So I have duplicates of some! I also buy seconds of fabrics because if I like the fabric to the point I don't want to cut then I can keep it and cut the seconds!!!

S D G 04-13-2011 02:36 PM

Quilt books. Some going back to the 60's. I don't want to get rid of them, they were my Aunt's. She gave up quilting a few years ago and they are Dear to me.

debp33 04-13-2011 02:37 PM

Too many fat quarters. I have hundreds and hundreds.

I find when I'm making a quilt I usually need more than a quarter yard of the same color. (But I can't give up the FQs because I just never know when I will need that particular one!)

fabric_fancy 04-13-2011 02:39 PM

batiks well over 800 yards in my stash

That too (the older books),..... thinking of getting rid of some, but not sure yet.

cctx. 04-13-2011 02:43 PM

Too many 30s and hunting for more of them too.
It's like a personal obsession.

You could try stitching them into children's coveralls (find a cute pattern) and donate the finished pants to a homeless shelter or to a pre-school. Pre-schools need extra sets of pants for when little ones have accidents. If the fabric is truly hideous, the pants will find their way back to the school. And moms in a homeless/abuse shelter will gladly take anything to clothe their babies.

Free quilt patterns online. I must have printed a thousand patterns, templates and embroidery patterns that I got for free online. I'm OCD about it. If I can't get on the computer every day or two, looking for patterns, I start getting itchy.

BETTY62 04-13-2011 04:00 PM

Reds, I can't resist a beautiful red.

MadQuilter 04-13-2011 04:08 PM

Patterns. I gutted my magazines and transferred them to binders. Good grief, how many 9-patch variations are there....

earthwalker 04-13-2011 04:44 PM

Magazines (mainly second hand), lots of florals (not buying any more this year) and a lot of corduroy/velvet cord.

Shelbie 04-13-2011 05:14 PM

I have too many bright novelty fabrics. I keep making kid's quilts but the pile is still substantial. Many of these were gifts or picked up at sales and cost very little sp I am not agonizing about them. I'll probably end up sharing more of them at Community Quilts which makes quilts for all sorts of great causes.

cizzors 04-13-2011 05:51 PM

I also have too much blue....Splain something to me-I hate blue. No blue in the house, don't wear it (except for jeans), I even had my boy dog on a hot pink leash (don't ask)!. Why is it that when I start a new project, If I'm not looking for a green, I'm always reaching for a blue before any other color?

BTW-I hate blue!!!

UFOs I MUST get some of them finished up.

lclang 04-13-2011 07:53 PM

Sewing machines. I have 14 counting my serger!

sally's girl 04-13-2011 08:02 PM

quilt patterns in books, magazines, ones I buy on sale or with coupon, and print from the free pattern sites....I will never ever make them all.

You mention that your dog has a hot pink leash.....My poodle has a HOT PINK doggie bed!!! And he uses it. Last time I vacuumed my floor, I tossed all of his gazillion toys into his bed and sure enough when he was ready to get into his bed he hauled every single one of those toys out and crawled in his bed. My husband tells me that I give that poodle a complex because his beds pink. I tell him THE DOG DOESN'T KNOW ITS PINK!!!

Oh and I have to many freckles. Freckles all over. And dust bunnies.

Sadiemae 04-13-2011 08:42 PM

Socks, socks, and more socks.

Wow...is it really possible to have too much batik...LOL...I would LOVE to see THAT stash!! :)

wtxpeach 04-13-2011 09:06 PM

A quilter with too many batiks? I would love to help you out with your "problem'! My batik stash is usually the first one to go.

I have too many fabrics that went out of style before I used them. I don't like them anymore. The new fabrics are just so exciting. That sounds like a good challenge, to use up all unwanted fabrics. I can always donate the quilts!

Anne P 04-13-2011 09:10 PM

Patterns - from magazines and from the net. I used to have a stack of magazines that was about 8' tall until I tore out the patterns I liked. Now it's about half that tall (gonna get them organized and filed one of these days:) I cant' tell you how many magabites of patterns I have saved on the computer!!!

I'll never have time to make all of them (or even 10% of them!), but I sure like looking at them. Stash and other things are under contol - for now!

I was cruising through the topic, loving all the responses thinking, "whew" I'm glad that's not me - then I saw this and gasped...gulped and thought, "gosh I wish that was me" I agree! There is no such thing as "too many batiks!" Pinks and reds are my favorite ever - Heaven, I'm guessing, is wall-to-wall pink and red batiks! :-D

Even though they are all different I also have too much blue and green as well. I have to find a quilt that uses both of those colors to get the stash down a little.(lot more.)

DoraElizondo 04-14-2011 02:00 AM

I do wish I could say it's fabric, but in all honesty I have to say that it's what I put on my chair when I sit down to sew. There's a few pounds too much of me.

Yooper32 04-14-2011 02:51 AM

Me, I'm a 30. LOL, I think she means reproduction fabrics from the 30's.

carleneparice 04-14-2011 03:14 AM

BabyCakes 04-14-2011 04:12 AM
