I have had a GO for about six months and love it. I convert all the patterns I have to cut with the GO and only a few I have not been able to do. It saves a lot of time.

sheron 02-01-2011 01:37 PM

I got the go for Christmas and love it. It was ordered from Amozon.com and it will take you to a sight called fabric hut. It was the best price that we found.
I have had to return two of them because they broke. The people at fabric hut are very nice and good to exchange for you. The gentalman I spoke with thinks he got a bad batch in and even called the company that makes them to see what is going on. I do love the go and can cut a lot of pieces with it. The dies are expensive but well worth it for me. I have a hard time keeping things straight.

penski 02-01-2011 01:41 PM

i weighed it out also for about a month and guess what !!!! i got mine yesterday !!!!!

Prism99 02-01-2011 02:15 PM

Sassey, all I can say is -- get it NOW! You have to get those quilts made for the kids and grandkids! They will appreciate them a heck of a lot more than the money..... :P

VaNella 02-01-2011 02:21 PM

I use mine for apple core and tennessee waltz because cutting those from templates would drive me insane. I tried to cut stamps from scraps but found it easier to use the rotary cutter for those. I have now cut two complete kits and the top piece is worn out.

mswings 02-01-2011 02:56 PM

I just finished a pin wheel quilt that I cut out with my Accuquilt Studio. It was such a wonderful experience sewing perfectly cut HST. And I love cutting strips for boarders! It was very expensive but I don't regret it at all! As careful as I try to cut with a template or ruler, it always slides. And you can cut out about 10 layers at one time. I cut some 2 1/2 strips for my sister in law really quickly and they were all accurate. The reason I bought the Studio model was because it is better quality. You can also get dies on E-bay or watch for sales at Accuquilt. I never pay full price.

Hi!

I use the Altos Quilt Cut 2 and I love it. You can cut anything and everything - No templates to buy. :-)

I've been trying to make the same decision but concerned that the dies are so expensive. But I know with my shaky hands it would probably be a lifesaver on certain days. I would probably only get the strips and squares dies because I can alway applique on my embroidery machine.

chiaraquilts 02-01-2011 03:22 PM

I just love mine. Cutting was always difficult for me and the difference is awesome. I have just started adjusting patterns so that they will work on the accuquilt- just so I know the results will be accurate. The piecing is so much more fun when everything goes together just right! Yes, it was pricey, but when I think of how much fabric I wasted (and the frustration!), it is sooo worth it. Ebay and Amazon are great for good prices.

galvestonangel 02-01-2011 03:23 PM

I have Alto's Quilt Cutter which I love. East to use and very versitle. If I had a no limit spending budget I would buy the Accuquilt. As it is I don't think I would get my moneys worth out of it.

LadyCougar 02-01-2011 03:46 PM

I actually purchased one for scrapbooking, and now figured out it can also be used for fabric. The only nice thing about them is the precision cut of shapes. Not really worth the money, I sometimes wish I hadn't purchased mine.

thrums 02-01-2011 04:20 PM

Acuquilt has started daily deals to encourage customers to buy sets. That may be the way to go.

Also sometimes you can find sales at JoAnns or the like.

I use my for applique for children's quilts, bibs etc. Yes you have to make a lot to justify the price, but you can cut multiples.

jitkaau 02-01-2011 04:37 PM

I have a different brand - but I can advise that these machines are fun to use and the shapes always come out the same size and quickly, so your quilt gets done accurately and without too much frustration.

Lilrain 02-01-2011 04:39 PM

one of my friends who teaches quilting and has for yeatrs, says she has seen a lot of fabric waste unless you are just cutting strips

VaNella 02-01-2011 05:09 PM

It is true. A big waste of fabric. I use the leavings for stamps and in string quilts.

finchelover 02-01-2011 05:38 PM

I've been learning slowly some ways you turn & sometimes you cut your fabric first and you have less waste.

PattyS 02-01-2011 06:09 PM

I have the Accuquilt GO and love it. Cutting the fabric using the dies is so much faster and more precise than I ever was using a ruler and rotary cutter.

lheizen 02-01-2011 06:15 PM

I love mine for the 2-1/2 strips I just love jelly rolls
now I can make my own,

thrums 02-01-2011 06:23 PM

I wonder how QuicKutz and Stampin'Up Big shot cutters would work. As the dies are generally smaller, I think I'd fuse a light web on the back before cutting.

Anyone have experience with this?

j.

I got the Sizzix that is virtually the same thing and did it because I just wanted to. It was cheaper than the Accuquilt Go and I got a really good discount at Houston Quilt Festival in Nov. 50% off and then 20% for the show special so could not turn that down. Cut 2" sashing for 4 quilts in about 10 minutes. Am just getting the rest of the dye that I ordered. If you wanted to use them for applique, they have a discount site that has things at dirt cheap. Things that are normally 7-10 for 1.50 & stuff for .99. Anyone can order from that site without a minimum. Give them a look-see.

It cuts your squares, triangles ect...problem is that if your pattern callls for a 2 7/8 in square, you can't use it...It is only good if the templates and the pattern jive....There are limited templates available....and they are pricey...It's a good thing if you can design your own pattern using the themplates that you can buy or if you are making several quilts that require the same size squares, triangles etc...Lots of money not alot of return...

star619 02-01-2011 09:07 PM

I have not used the Accuquilt, but have used the Alto's Quilt Cut 2 for over 5 years. I cut 6 layers at a time, accurately, and have no need for dies or templates. The only thing it will not do is circular shapes. For a little over $200 dollars, a lifetime warranty,13 angles available for cutting, and a video that gives you an in-house teacher at any hours of the day or night, how can you lose? I have also known people with disabilities (wheelchair, arthritis. blind, etc.) who learned to use the system - which extended their quilting life for decades.

JoanneS 02-01-2011 10:13 PM

Accuquilt is what it says it is: ACCURATE! Every single piece you cut is perfect. And you can cut them so quickly. Sure, you THINK you can cut accurately with templates. But you wind up having to square up. Never have to square up with Accuquilt. I especially love doing HSTs now! It cuts the dog-ears off, too.

You quickly learn how to do a little pre-cutting (no accuracy needed - so it's fast) so you don't waste a lot of fabric.

If you have arthriti or back problems, it's especially nice. My DH had even offered to start cutting for me, because of my back problems. When I described the Accuquilt to him, he said ,'Buy one!"

At first, it's hard to crank the handle. Hang in there, because it gets easier after it is used for a while. Remember how a new jump rope was kind of stiff, but it softened up after you used it for a while? Sort of the same. The dies stay sharp, though.

Fast, accurate, easy-peasy!

As for the sizes not fitting every pattern - they fit the most-used block patterns. The 2-7/8" block someone mentioned that would be a pain in the neck to cut no matter HOW you cut it.

www.jhittlesewing.com has good prices for the dies, and you can find good prices for them on ebay, too. If you spend at least $100 at jhittle, shipping is free - important, because the dies are heavy.

Berta48 02-01-2011 10:19 PM

I love my Accuquilt Go. I was always ruining my fabric can't cut straight to save my life!!LOL
But the Go cuts perfect!!Today I took all the fabric I have ruined and I now have 2 1/2in squares,5in squares and 4 1/2 in squares cut perfectly and in baggies!!!!

ANd I love how it cuts my 2 1/2 in strips.

It's a learning curve for long strips - but you CAN cut long strips by folding the fabric.

snicker dee 02-01-2011 11:12 PM

I did not know if I would really use one so I decided not to get the GO. But then the GO was my bday present from my family. It was an adjustment to get used to having this expensive toy. At first I would have to remind myself to use it bec I am so accustom to my rotary cutter. The more I used it, the more I liked it ..... now I absolutely love it!! It saves my arm, my hands, saves me time and my cuts are PERFECT! I am so glad now that my family got this tool-toy for me. I have since purchased additional dies ... and have been able to find each and every one on sale.... a great idea!

luvTooQuilt 02-01-2011 11:14 PM

Glad you fell in love with it.. !!!

Keep extra mats on hand.. they get worn quickly..

AnnieH 02-02-2011 12:05 AM

[quote=Pollyv9]I always weigh the cost of a toy vs more fabric. The fabric usually wins. quote]

Ditto.
Happy shopping, whatever you buy.

atvrider 02-02-2011 03:47 AM

I have the Accuquilt Studio. Yes the dies are expensive but when you can cut a king size quilt in less than half an hour....need I say more?? I suppose if I had to do it all over again I would buy the Go, but that was not available when I purchased the Studio.

thrums 02-02-2011 07:28 AM

Where do you purchase the Sizzik or Quickuts dies so inexpensively?

Thanks!

How wide are your leavings? Mine are mostly 1/4-inch strings, which are too small to use as anything but pet bed stuffing! I use permanent marker to mark the blades so I can place fabric according to where the blades are. I can understand lots of waste if you cut fabric the full width of the die beds, but that's not necessary.

VaNella 02-02-2011 08:36 AM

I have leftovers when I cut the apple cores. I can get a few stamps out of the gaps. If I were using a template, I would have less waste. But I'm not complaining. I will make a lovely irish chain one of these days.

nevrn 02-02-2011 09:13 AM

Thank you for your reply Joanne S. and also for the J. Hittle site URL. I checked that and will be buying from them in the future. Lots of GREAT prices.

Seems like a lot of money to accomplish what you can do with templates. Maybe I'm missing something???

You can purchase the Accuquilt Go at Quilters-Warehouse for 207.00.It comes with the Value Die pack. The Go is compatible with all the Go Baby dies so I would get the Go before the Go Baby.Just MHO(My honest opinion)LOL

I LOVE my Go and wouldn't trade it for anything. (Well almost )

They have a demo right under the pictures on the top left hand side. It might help you see if you'd really like it or not. The only use I personally see is for the shapes that are odd (like a butterfly) that you can applique with. It's easier just to cut long strips for the regular sized strips, squares and triangles. Happy Shopping!

what's the difference between the #1 and the #2? ebay has the #2 for $159.

Prism99 02-02-2011 02:41 PM

Not sure what you mean by #1 and #2. Do you have a link to the eBay listing?

Berta48 02-02-2011 02:45 PM

I posted above in a post that the Go could be purchased at
Quilters Warehouse that was a mistake it is....

I got one fore Christmas. It was on sale really cheap.I too decided to get it because,1. I have a back injury and bending over a table to cut long strips put a strain on my back and 2. I have a problem with my right wrist and mussel
going up into my thumb which caused severe pain when I cut with a rotery cutter.I have to wear a brace on my hand after I cut. This makes it so much easier for me.I wont buy all the dies, because first their costly and I dont have enough storage. As Im writing this my hubby is putting up shelfs in my spare room closet to put my stash after reading about storing in plastic containers. Now Iwill have to get busy and sort ad clean.Wish me luck.

jojosnana 02-02-2011 04:10 PM

I just saw one on Joann.com and was wondering about the possibilities. I will need to think harder on that especially since I was going to use it to cut strips and Connecting Threads does the cutting for free.
