Just exactly what do you do with your Accuquilts and Accuquilt go? Do you just cut shapes that you could do the same by using a template? I want one because it's a new toy and I could tighten my belt a little and afford it, I just can't imagine what I would actually do with it. Seems like a lot of money to accomplish what you can do with templates. Maybe I'm missing something???

Go to: http://www.accuquilt.com/GO-Fabric-C...FUdrKgodDRdO2A

They have a demo right under the pictures on the top left hand side. It might help you see if you'd really like it or not. The only use I personally see is for the shapes that are odd (like a butterfly) that you can applique with. It's easier just to cut long strips for the regular sized strips, squares and triangles. Happy Shopping!

The dies are really expensive and I can't justify the price for myself, I have the Altos quilt cut 2 and I love it, it does all I need very quickly and easily.

Read the thread about over-priced gadgets and then make your decision. . . .

some times i just want a toy even if i will never use it. I am sometime just like a kid(man)LOL

Need vs. want are two different things.

Do you remember where you got yours?

Prism99 01-31-2011 08:35 AM

I think it depends a lot on how much cutting you do, which shapes are your favorite cuts, and how good you are with a rotary cutter.

The thing I like most about my Go! are the triangles. They are cut perfectly with all the points nipped off, so they are easy to match up to sew accurately. The tumbler shape would be difficult to rotary cut, so I like that die, but tumblers have limited design possibilities.

For strips and squares, I can do just as well with my rotary cutter and a Shape Cut mat.

The applique shapes are primarily for use with fusible applique.

The Go! does make it easier for me to cut a lot of shapes in a day, so it is just borderline worth it for me. For those with problems using a rotary cutter, it can be very worthwhile.

did I see someone on here had one for sale for $500 with a lot of dyes...I think it was in the section forsale items

Raggiemom 01-31-2011 09:07 AM

I love mine. At the moment, I just use it for strips but I like the fact the strips are actually all the correct size! :)

magpiefeather 01-31-2011 09:07 AM

I pondered that one too. But I "invested" in an Accuquilt Studio which I will use myself and rent out to others for a fee (so far undecided amount). That way I can share the fun! On some of the groups for Accuquilt, I read someone say they only make quilts that can be cut quickly on a Go or Studio. The benefits...cutting multiple pieces by rolling it through a roller! I guess the price is the part no one likes. But in my opinion, it is a time saver and saves wear and tear on my cutting arm and hands, something that with proper care can be used for a long time and is worth the money. Not just a gadget you would use once and throw in a drawer.

pollyjvan9 01-31-2011 09:24 AM

I always weigh the cost of a toy vs more fabric. The fabric usually wins. I do a lot of fusible applique projects and have learned that I can free hand cut a LOT leaves or circles or flowers in a very short time and even though they may a little different they all look okay on the quilt. Also, I get bored using the same shapes and the dies are so expensive I don't think I could afford all the shapes I might want.

BellaBoo 01-31-2011 09:58 AM

The Go is great for me. Honestly I haven't found one quilt pattern I want to make that doesn't have HST, squares, strips, or diamonds in it and the Go dies come in the most used sizes for quilt blocks. I have the Alto cutting system too. It's nice but it takes me longer to cut with it then the Go.

I never turn my nose up at new quilting gadgets or tools, it's fun to see the creativeness of them. If it's a new quilting tool, I want to use it. It may become my best thing ever or it may be in the next yard sale.

crochetetc 01-31-2011 10:12 AM

I have owned mine go baby for less than a month and have worn out a small mat using it to cut up scraps. I am now following Bonnie Hunters leaders and followers because I have the 2" square die. There is no way I would have done this without it. I also invested in the 5" square die to cut out charm squares to send to my ss or just because.

Flying_V_Goddess 01-31-2011 10:40 AM

I thought about buying one. They looked real nice and interesting, but then I had to ask myself "Do I really need this?" No, I am perfectly capable of cutting out my own pieces. Even if it takes longer its still cheaper.

SuzyQ 01-31-2011 10:43 AM

I bought mine because I really don't like to cut and it always seems like my ruler slips when I'm cutting and I get frustrated because my pieces don't line up. I also have the Alto and like it a lot for cutting larger pieces.

I've had the Studio cutter for about 10 years (used it for paper crafting) so when I started quilting, I already had the machine, just needed some dies. The thing I like about using the machine is that your cuts are so accurate. You don't have to struggle piecing, easing stuff in etc. because everything fits. I find I have very little to do when squaring up blocks. I just got the 'winding ways' die and the curved pieces just about fall together. I don't think it really makes the cutting all that quicker, but the accuracy is the thing for me, because it really increases my piecing speed. If you are really accurate with your rotary cutter, you are probably fine without it. If, however, you find yourself constantly fighting to make your pieces fit and get those sharp points, then it may be a good investment.

BellaBoo 01-31-2011 11:12 AM

I always felt my time was more valuable then money so anything that saves me time is worth the money.

qwkslver 01-31-2011 11:56 AM

I just got mine Friday. It makes accurate cuts, fast. It may waste a little fabric. Seems I have a lot of throwaway scrap left. I'm having fun with it, but then it's new. If you don't place the selvage right the cuts are not accurate. I like it but it's probably just an overpriced toy I could do without.

Divokittysmom 01-31-2011 12:27 PM

I too have been weighing my options on purchasing a GO! After a great deal of research and some very deep thinking sessions I have decided not to purchase at this time. I feel like it's very expensive (although it is an incredible machine)... and the cost would just keep building and building as the need for new dies and mats arises. I just can't justify it, the cost is kind of like the energizer bunny, it keeps going and going and going.... giggle giggle.
My wonderful husband just gifted me with a brand new Babylock Ellisimo. Adding the cost of the AccuQuilt on top of a brand new machine.... well to me that just seems like quite alot. I will be happy with my rotary cutter machine and bias tape maker machines I purchased. I think that will help me out just fine.
Whoever posted the comment about jumping on the bandwagon of everything new gave me additional cause to pause and think about it. Thanks for the wakeup call.

if it comes down to money check out the newest/best cutters.

http://www.checkerdist.com and search for Ellison & sizzix!

You will get a much better return for your money with these machines and you can use the accuquilt dies in them as well!

IF you buy accuquilt dies go to joanns.com and for sizzix go to their site directly they have great sales!

Somebody also told me about a yahoo group for somebody who is selling the AccuQuilt and products. It is called pinsandneedles1

Basically you get a 35% discount from the MSRP so the AccuQuilt Go! Cutter is somewhere around $226. You have to join her yahoo group and be approved before being able to buy from her.

so what is the difference between a GO! and a GO baby and, if you don't mind me asking, why are you selling it if it is unused? I'm just trying to cover options and which will be best for me.

the BABy is the newest one that is very tiny! Only takes dies under 6" wide!

I bought it thinking I could use some of my ellison/sizzix dies with it, but I can't, so it has to go!

BellaBoo 01-31-2011 12:59 PM

I don't know what you mean about having the selvage lined up to get accurate cuts. I put scrap fabric on my Go die any way it will fit and get an exact accurate cut. I only use enough fabric to cover the die blade with 1/4" around. I don't cover the die with fabric. I end up with 1/4" strips as my waste.

SewsonSaturday 01-31-2011 01:00 PM

if you do alot of applique its great or if you have arthritis. My grandma likes to use mine because she dosent have to put presure down on her wrists. i love it because its so much easyer then trying to cut the shapes with templetes. im rather clumsy and tend to have to redo things 5 or 6 times. so it save me alot of money buy not wasting so uch fabric.

Ginger2010 01-31-2011 01:09 PM

I just ordered one on Ebay Make offer, and I feel I got a great Deal! I got the Go Cutter, rack, 4 mats, tote, and 32 dies, all for a little over $1200. But the deal was for $1000 and I ordered 5 extra dies and she gave me 25% off on them and FREE shipping. Can't wait to receive it probably next week. I am so Excited!!

Did you get it straight from their site? I like the way it holds the ruler in place and you can even set it at angles. Nice!

How do you store it?

Thanks for clarifying that for me. Do you have a sizzix system? how does that compare to what you've read here?

I have the Accuquilt Go my husband got it for me for my birthday last March, pd $240.00 free shipping and then she gave me a 35% off 2 dies so it was a good deal and I have used mine alot, already going to have to replace my mat. But I like it, have seen it priced a little cheaper then what I gave for it but I don't have any regrets.

Yes, I am a very very Blessed woman; the biggest blessing is my loving husband!

Just wondering how many widths can you cut at once?

19angel52 02-01-2011 03:31 AM

Been considering one myself....those I know who do have one use it all the time - they're very much into appliqued quilts and love it. If you are considering getting one, be sure you hunt around - Amazon had one far less than most who sells 'em (at least that's what I discovered about 3 months ago!)

I am eagerly waiting for my accquilt go to be here maybe today?? I too like all the new toys and if I really like it My DD's will know what to buy me for Christmas,Birthdays, Mothers day, I can get a lot of dies LOL

How do you like that one? I am disabled, only able to use my left arm and in a WC. I have tried to find the fiskars ruler/cutter but @ time I come up empty handed. Ebay had an Alto's for 109.00 plus 25.00 shippng. Too expensive. Right now I use a regular 6x24" ruler and weigh it down with an old iron I cut the cord off. Definately do-able but VERY slow going.

CarrieAnne 02-01-2011 04:53 AM

I love mine!

MissSandra 02-01-2011 05:24 AM

I have a go machine, i have used it 2 times, just to see if I liked it, well I am a visual person and I have yet to see something inspiring to bring it out and use it. so for now it still sits.
