Go to www.rfdtv.com. Click on the tab that says "Program Schedule" Select your time zone then look at the calendar. Quilt in A Day airs on Wednesdays, twice in some areas. If you look across the top of rfdtv's masthead, it shows all the providers who supposedly broadcast their programs.

marveenc 04-09-2010 04:24 PM

I always check my local PBS station for their weekly quilting shows.

"Martha's Sewing Room" is doing stuff that's too advanced for my current skill level or just not my personal taste, but I still enjoy the show because the hostess is so warm and likable. I could see enjoying sitting down and hanging out with her.

zz-pd 04-09-2010 04:40 PM

I don't know what channel if any they are on here. I just have regular t.v. Penny

roseOfsharon 04-09-2010 05:10 PM

Well golly ghee willickers! I live in Maryland and I don't believe I get ANY quilting shows! That is just pitiful! Don't you think? Good thing I have a computer! It's a crime! It's a tragedy! It's, it's, it's... down right unamerican! giggling.. but surely they could have some here for me to watch!! :)

BINGO! YES!!!! That's her! When her show comes on. the tv goes off!

oh, no! if you're having a "who's the most irritating" contest, i vote for martha pullen. when she smiles it looks like she's inviting you to count her teeth.

i only get everything 1x each week, but i don't get georgia bonesteel at all. wish i did.

boosgmom 04-09-2010 05:35 PM

Call your cable or satellite company and see if they carry it, if not ask if they can get it.

I suppose I will have to do just that :)

boosgmom 04-09-2010 05:54 PM

I live in Maryland too and on the Washington, DC channel , WHUT, channel32, on PBS, we used to get Kayes Quilting World and Fons & Porter. Both were taken off without notice. I learned a lot from both of them. And I would get up early just to watch Simply Quilts. Never have seen an explanation of why they quit tv.

Lap Quilting with Georgia Bonesteel is another one.

Quilting Arts

Kaye's Quilting Friends

Martha Pullen has a show too, lots of heirloom, but also quilting too.

I watch all of these on my local PBS channels.

In the past, our PBS station has carried all of the shows mentioned here and in earlier posts, but now they have ALL been removed.[[[[[[[[[[[[booo]]]]]]]]]]]]] Sue Hausmann was the last one I saw. I suppose we quilters haven't supported them [[[[$$$$$]]]] enough. My favorites were Nancy (when I was doing garment sewing), Simply Quilts, Georgia B., Fons & Porter {don't you just love their commercial where they cut a hole out of DH's shirt to use the fabric in a quilt}, Martha Pullen (heirloom sewing). Kaye W -- love that 6-hr. quilt!, and of course Quilt in a Day. SQ was my favorite because of all the great guests.

You must not have ever met Martha Pullen in person. She's a doll and true blue. I've attended 2 of her sewing markets in Arlington, Tx and two of her sewing schools in Huntsville, Ala.
In Ala. we were invited TO HER HOME for a barbeque. It was Southern Hospitality in true form. She's a very genuine person.

Ada Shiela 04-09-2010 06:54 PM

Thank you for info on zeeltv.com which has given me other links - it is a remarkable site and pleased to see it after Simply Quilts' demise in Oz - I get up with the birds so much time will be spent watching dvds whilst waiting for daylight to dawn. I have a few more sites to check out now!! :)

Sheree from Chicago 04-09-2010 06:55 PM

Quilting Arts is also on public television.

I have the basic package too.

anglgrl 04-09-2010 07:21 PM

we use to get all these sewing channels on Saturdays channel 24 must have been PBS. Now I can't find any of them. I miss them. I do get Simply quilts on the internet HGTV. But I paid 49.00 for the year Its probably worth it though.

Rexene 04-09-2010 07:41 PM

Southwest Michigan: I just switched from Dish to DirectTV and so far have found Quilt in a Day Thursday 2:30 on channel 35 (PBS). I received Fons & Porter Thursday 2:00 on channel 35 with Dish. Kaye's Quilting Friends evidently was canceled in our area.

Marilyn Philips 04-09-2010 08:48 PM

When I first started quilting the only quilting program on TV was Simply Quilts on either PBS or HGTV and that was one of the things that got me really interested in quilting. However, that was cancelled quite some time ago. Since then I have wondered if the network powers that be and TV programers have forgotten that there are quilters in the Detroit metro area or if they think we live on another planet.

butterflywing 04-09-2010 09:00 PM

i don't think it's really the stations. i think it's the sponsors. even though it's public t.v., someone shells out something. donations cover only a part of the broadcasting costs. if coats and clark or fiskars doesn't think there's an audience, they won't pay for a show.

Comcast in the Detroit area does not air these shows so I have to assume that the demand is not there for this type of programming.

:-( :-( :-(

dar627742 04-10-2010 05:54 AM

if you have direct tv just set your favorites to 'quilting' & it will record them all. NEAT!

anglgrl 04-10-2010 06:19 AM

guess what they just brought all my programs back today they were gone for a few months maybe they got more money. lol

Char 04-10-2010 07:03 AM

I haven't read all the replies (just skimmed them), but has anyone tried www.quilterstv.com on your computer. I like it, especially the Billie Lauder segments. It has tons of other quilters doing demonstrations.
Try it! You'll like it!

AtHomeSewing 04-10-2010 07:06 AM

My friends thought I was crazy recording Simply Quilts while it was on! I've got a collection of 150 or so of the shows saved on DVDs and love to have them to refer to.

It's hard to say if it will be back on. Sometimes HGTV runs episodes on the DIY Network. They have hundreds of episodes, so they could use it anytime I guess.

dawn payne 04-10-2010 07:11 AM

Kitsie, I just saw your picture on here. The quilt square you are holding is beautiful! Which pattern is that? It's beautiful! Dawn Payne

I don't get KCSM, have found Martha Pullen and Knitting Daily on BYU-TV and PBS respectively. Sewing with Nancy and Fons & Porter also appear on PBS.

deeceem 04-10-2010 08:56 PM

As dvd became popular I thought I would transfer the taped simply quilts to dvd. not yet. I kept them cross indexed to be able to find what I wanted. The problem now is that I now have no vcr player in the sewing room.

MillieH 04-11-2010 05:33 AM

Quoting from above in ref. to public TV: "make them realize that there are people who want those shows to continue."

Some of these shows are expensive and the money to pay for them comes mainly from public sources (donations, company sponsorships, etc.). Consider a donation to public TV to help pay for them.

GrandmaAlice 04-11-2010 10:27 AM

I have Dish TV and still get RFD on Channel 231. In live in northern Ohio, if that makes a difference. For those who don't have that channel it has a lot of farm shows, Sat. evening is all country music. They have many interesting programs.

Glenda C. 04-11-2010 03:45 PM

I have enjoyed sewing with Nancy for a long time and she does have guest that quilt. glenda in Texas

anglgrl 04-11-2010 05:49 PM

I love all those shows!

craftybear 04-18-2010 11:38 PM

I wish we had more quilting shows on TV
