i saw some twisted quilts and decided to make one i didn't want to order the ruler so i made my own with a ruler i have already and a permanent marker. now, the ruler is a 6 1/2" square so does anyone know what size squares i should start with when i make the first quilt so it will fit properly? thanks

I want to try this one, too. But also thought I could spare a ruler for making my own twister block ruler, will be watching this thread for further infor, thanks for asking.

I'm curious as to why the permanent marker. If you mismark or drop the pen, you will have a mark that won't come out. Most here use a regular pencil or a chalk pencil.

the permanent marker marks the guidelines on the ruler not on the fabric. It won't rub off once it has dried on the ruler.

WHEW!!! I thought jackie was going to use it on the fabric, too!!!!!

nope just on my ruler. the ruler is still good for it's original purpose too, it just has too extra lines on it. sooo.... does anyone know what size blocks to start out with? i don't really want to guess and mess it up.

It sure looks like we could make our own ruler. What do you think?

Cut a piece of plexiglass and mark it? Or use painter's tape (I know there is blue but I think I saw a purple somewhere as well) on your ruler instead of sharpie to mark your new lines?

i already have m ruler marked. that's not what i meant. first you make a quilt top with squares but they have to be a certain size to work with the ruler. the ruler is a 6 1/2" one. so the squares need to be slightly bigger than that. i will google around some more but if anyone her has experience making them please let me know. even if your ruler is a different size it would be helpful to know what size difference you need to make between the original squares and the ruler itself.
thanks

The small ruler is a 3 1/2" square and you cut 5" blocks. The larger one is a 8" square and you cut 10" blocks. Hope this helps.
