I appreciate all of the input! I usually make larger baby quilts for the reasons listed above. I also ask if there's a theme to follow and try to accommodate. This mother wishes to have a simple blue/white quilt and I've never made a two-color quilt because I love lots of color. This was a recent scrappy baby quilt that I made for a mother who said "go crazy" and it's probably my favorite baby quilt made so far. I have zero i-spy type fabrics but I think I will meander through my LQS to see what inspires me.

Ha. You could make modern two color on one side and wild color I spy on the other!

You could call it a "nap time-play time" quilt!

I always go for what the parents want. Even if all the science in the world is behind doing something else, I would find it rather rude if someone asked me what I wanted and I then disregarded it. I love the pattern in the first post! It would be fabulous in muted colors or dark blue and white. I counted the block side, and it seems like it is just a bunch of 4” finished HST blocks and uneven rail fence, so it would be fast and forgiving to sew.

I just finished a two color Hunters Star for a wedding gift. It might be a good pattern for you.

I love the "nap time-play time" idea! I agree with Pam that asking for input and then disregarding would seem a bit odd. And I do see the value of incorporating enough interest for the baby, toddler, child as this will be a large throw to be used for years. All great input - thank you!

Constantine63 - your Hunters Star quilt is beautifully done and is a great option, too.

Looking forward to a visit to my favorite LQS (or two) in the next few days and I'm sure a grand plan will come together. Thanks again for the thoughtful ideas!
