I agree that this is a great pattern. I actually bought this pattern and have been looking for a while--for the perfect mini flower print fabric to go with off-white --to make this quilt. My plans are to work at this at a retreat I am going to this Fall.

That's a great pattern for a retreat - simple and somewhat repetitive, so you can visit while you sew and not have to focus exclusively on piecing! :)

Just two fabrics or two plus a white/neutral?

Many of the older traditional 9 patch, 4 patch and 5 patch designs work well in just two colors.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I'm going to attempt a disappearing 4 patch with a twist. Not sure how well that will go, since you need a steady hand to cut it apart and mine are anything but...........

Oooh these fabrics are pretty. I haven't seen this version of D9P before, do you have a block pattern you can share? Or maybe I can figure it out, but where do you cut it apart? Thanks!

It's a 4 patch, not a 9. you cut diagonal, marking 2 inches in on both sides of all 4 corners. here's the link. http://round22.blogspot.com/2012/07/...ith-twist.html I really like the way it is turning out. I have 9 blocks "1 row" finished.

Also, I start with 6 1/2 inch squares and end up with a 10 1/2 inch block

Exactly. Because retreats are a "social thing". I don't like to take anything big or complicated that takes lots of space or lots of concentration. I save those projects for when I am at home by myself.
