DottyD 01-06-2011 07:26 AM

I have a Janome Gem, which is a really great little machine, especially for workshops etc. I also have a Pfaff Quilt Expression 4, which seems great. I haven't had it that long, so I am still learning !!

I am interested to see that most people have multiple machines. Is it that a)they all have different functions, b) we weren't able to trade them in, or c) we are all crazy collectors?

C, for me. I can't stand to see a vintage sewing machine without a proper home and name!!

danac 01-06-2011 08:11 AM

I have a Featherweight, a Janome 6500P that I absolutely love and
a Babylock Sashiko that I haven't gotten out of the box yet but am itching to try.

I have a Singer XL1000 sewing and embroidery machine and a Pfaff 2056, a Janome Serger and a Baby Lock Cover Stitch machine.

I have two Vikings one purchased in 1970 and a newer one I bought in 1993. I still use both. My Serger is a very old Viking bought in the early 80's and the machine on my quilting frame is a Jannone 1600. All work well. When I first started sewing on my own I had a singer. That only lasted about 5 years before I discovered the Viking. Love my Viking.

lovestosew 01-06-2011 09:02 AM

Oh I don't need info on machines. I was just wondering what folks used. I'm happy with my sewing machines.

honeydew 01-06-2011 09:14 AM

Bernina, Elna, Bernina serger

Ethel Hoffman 01-06-2011 09:24 AM

Ihave 2Kenmores, a Brother, and each has some feature I realy like. I piece on all of them but have not learned to quilt my own quilts yet. I plan to do a small one and try to learn that this year.

Maia B 01-06-2011 09:24 AM

I have a Babylock Quest Plus for general sewing, piecing, and quilting. Three Singer Featherweights for fun, just piecing so far. The Elna 686 serger doesn't get much use, just hemming and the few garments I make a year. A Brother HS 2000 for my sons, 7&9 years old, and for classes if I ever need more than a straight stitch. But I'm on the hunt for an older, German-made Pfaff just because and considering a straight stitcher like a Juki 2010Q or a Brother Nouvelle 1500S. And I NEED a treadle, right?

jdeery 01-06-2011 09:34 AM

I have a 155 Bernina and an old Nikki warhorse of a machine
that only sews straight. Love them both!

Robinlee 01-06-2011 09:37 AM

I have a Viking 545, purchased in 83 with money from a wedding dress I made for someone. In 87 I purchased a White Huskyvarna Serger while I was working on 4 weddings during the summer. Loads of ruffles and the serger was so handy for the hems. In 2001, I purchase a 7570 Phaff with Embroidery attachment - just because purchase. The summer of 2009 I purchase 2 more of the White Huskyvarna Serger on Ebay, one for my daughter and one as a back for me. I also own a 1910 Singer machine in Cabinet I purshased from a little ole' lady at a rummage sale. In perfect condition and works with all attachments.

vintagemotif 01-06-2011 09:47 AM

I use my treadles: piecing, National Two Spools or Singer 201; straight stitch quilting, 201; and FM a 15-90. I finish off my bindings with a decorative stitch from Janome TB-30. I own other vintage machines, but they just decorate my sewing room bookshelves.

What sewing machines do you own and like to use? You haven't told us what you like.

Janome 6600 and a Jenome Gem for taking to classes and retreats.

Donna Hall 01-06-2011 10:40 AM

I have an antique Singer Featherweight, a Babylock Ellure Plus which I use for embroidery, and a Babylock Espire which I use for piecing. Being down since Oct. 20 with a broke leg, I used the Featherweight to make the shop sample of Wildflower Rhapsody. I could get my leg which was straight out while in my wheelchair under the featherweight table. I would not trade for either machine. Oh yes, I also have a 201 "big sister" featherweight.

carole7481 01-06-2011 10:43 AM

I have a 2003D Brother, 900D Brother, a CS6000 Brother, Janome1600 on quilting frame and Brother serger. Can you tell...I favor Brothers. I also have a Nikki sewing machine that is 35 years old, still works and I use it when making denim quilts...it's a toughie.

i am a brother lover, pc 700 for embroidery and a 6000 for sewing

probles 01-06-2011 12:36 PM

Janome is my favorite. I have a simple one but insisted it have a needle down feature. That is definitely needed for a quilter. The one I use the most is a Singer Futura. I love it. It is just too heavy to cart to guilds and classes and such.

gramofmany 01-06-2011 12:42 PM

I have a three week old Brother that cost lots and lots of $ and I am having a lot of trouble with it. Bobbin is constantly jamming up. A birdsnest big enough for a crow to live in. Forever cleaning it out and am taking it for repairs for the second time. Believe me, it will be the last time I will take it in. The next time it happens or if it ever happens again, I will be leaving the shop with my money back. Will go back to my 47 year old Kenmore. I wanted an embroidery machine so so so badly but I am having trouble with basic sewing. SO MAD!!!

sewsewdiane 01-06-2011 12:44 PM

I have a featherweight 221, a Singer 301 that was my Mothers and I learned to sew on it, a Singer Tredel and a Janome 6600

girlsfour 01-06-2011 12:46 PM

Janome. Love it!

quiltsyl 01-06-2011 01:38 PM

Janome Memorycraft 6600 (main machine), Elna quilter's dream (travel bag for classes), juki TL98QE (on a grace frame), Singer touch 'n sew, featherweight, treadle and a serger

Browngirl 01-06-2011 02:13 PM

I am so glad to see that I am not alone in having more than one machine (I won't say how many). Each one has its use. I have a Viking, Kenmore and Brother as well as a Viking serger. Am not great at my hobbies but I do enjoy and like what I do.

milkbone 01-06-2011 02:19 PM

My main machine is my beloved Janome 6600---workshop machine is another Janome Platinum (nice and light and a work horse :). I also have a Featherweight, 2 other Singers (one is my very first machine my parents bought me when I was 15 years old----a LONG time ago) and I have my grandmother's treadle Singer sewing machine. I love them all :)

Ladybug 1938 01-06-2011 02:29 PM
