UFO border help
5 Attachment(s)
I have one UFO from this year, and it bugs me enough to want to finish it, and find a home for it. First it needs a good presss so I apologize for the wrinkles. The original pattern has a solid border, but I messed up this quilts color selection (the dark is actually a beautiful deep purple) and the purple should be where the green is. Anyway, I felt the solid border was meh and here is my effort to balance my poor choice. I’m leaning towards the purple inner border, then the pieced border, and the purple for the binding and done, but wanted to get feedback from the experts here, because obviously I’m in need of better attention color placement.

I love the one with the quilt....dark solid border....pieced border (that looks amazing!!), then the solid border.
Beautiful quilt!! |
I like photo #4 with the green inner border, very nice!

Beautiful quilt!! |
I like the purple sash, then SIS and then final purple. Really sets off the body of the quilt.
I like the purple inner border better. It seems to really set off the blocks. Very pretty quilt!
I also vote for the purple inner border. The other colors seemed to disappear & I had to go back to find them.
oh my, second or third photo look great. It is a lovely quilt. I like it the way you did it, so be proud. It looks lovely!!
I am so glad you 'messed up the colour selection' because I think having the purple where the green is, would have been very heavy and dark. It is lovely and striking as it is now. My vote is also for the narrow inner purple border and then the pieced border and purple binding. It is going to look awesome!
Lovely top and I prefer the purple inner border, then pieced border and purple last border and bind with purple but any of the combinations look nice.
They are all nice, but picture #3 jumps out at me. It just has a bit more visual zip and zing!!

Pretty quilt!
My vote is a dark purple inner border, the SIS as you show, and then another dark purple outer border in the same size as the first dark purple. The two dark purple borders will frame the SIS. The binding would be dark purple too. I may have repeated a suggestion already given. What fabric are you planning to use for the backing? |

My choice is the green inner border and then the pieced border. It looks great, no matter which one you choose.
I vote for the dark inner border then pieced border then the dark border again. Your pieced border is pretty-I think it really adds to your quilt.
Definitely the dark inner border!
Beautiful - I like #3, the all purple borders
Very pretty, I like any way you choose to put it together.
Purple for sure! The others sort of fade away while the purple frames it nicely.
My favorite is 3 but any would work. What a gorgeous color combination! Beautiful!!!

Beautiful quilt!! I too think having the extra purple in the outer border helps stabilize it more :). |
Photo 2 or 3, with a slight preference for 3. Go with your gut—I agree with your leaning.
lovely quilt! I prefer the dark inner border, pieced and then dark outer border. 2nd choice would be yellow, pieced and dark inner border.
What a beautiful quilt and I agree with others, you didn't get the color placement "wrong", it's perfect. I'm not sure you've noticed, but it looks like you have a purple/white square where it doesn't belong. On the left of the center medallion, i believe it should be a yellow square.
Your choice of purple narrow inner border, then that fantastic pieced one, then purple would be a wonderful finish. Great quilt. |
I'd go with the green inner border. It is a continuation of the quilt body itself. I find the purple to be a bit stark and sort of stands on its own with the pieced border and the outer one. I find it looking like it was created on its own rather than to highlight your beautiful top. It may be, too, that the quilt looks different in the picture than in actual light. Bottom line--you choose as, when a person asks for opinions, you get mixed answers! Are you now even more confused? At least, you find that the yellow didn't win any votes!

Beautiful quilt!
I like either:A. quilt, pieced border, purple outer or B. Quilt, Narrow Dark/purple inner, pieced, dark outer Rob |
It's gorgeous. Wish I could mess up like that.
Narrow purple, then pieced, then dark outer and bound with the same would be my choice. Watson |

yep, picture number three for me too! It is beautiful, I don't think you will have any trouble re-homing this one! :)
maybe try a very skinny purple border, then the pieced border, and then a purple binding that finishes at the same width as the inner border?
I like the skinny solid purple, the pieced, the solid again. It's wonderful!
I think a small solid purple border would really frame and balance the top. I also really like your diamond border. Whether you put an additional small border or simply bind it in the same purple as the small inner frame would depend on if you needed the extra size. I personally would only do a small inner, the diamond and a binding - BUT - as we say often - it is your quilt and your decisions - nothing is the wrong way!

That is a stunning quilt! Beautiful! I did think the dark was black, but I can imagine the purple, which makes it even more gorgeous. I think I prefer the dark solid inner border and the dark/white diamonds as a final. But, frankly, all your "tryout's" look great and will work.....I probably like the yellow inner border least only because it's not as dramatic as the others.
