Do you have any unfinished quilting projects? Let's all give ourselves deadlines to get them finished.

Who is In?

craftybear 06-12-2010 10:09 PM

I have some and be working on them this month!

texas granny 06-12-2010 10:16 PM

I have a lot to work on I have been trying to get my room in order so I can sew. I just never seem to have the right amount of time and engery

CAROLJ 06-12-2010 10:22 PM

The more I work the more I have to do. I'm trying to finish up three that are in the piecing stage, and six that are tops, plus I have some odd pieces that I am thinking about making linto a sampler quilt.

When I started quilting again I swore I would finish one quilt at a time, but I was given a couple of tops, and I bought a couple. Now they are flowing like a river.

I don't know how to machine quilt a larger quilt, I can do a lap quilt, or smaller, but have never attempted anything larger. And it takes a long time to hand quilt. Plus I can't afford to have them done. Just to get a basic FMQ done is 75.00 for a queen.

Maybe I'll finish the rag baby quilt, I bought it at a yard sale, it came with a bunch of fabric.

Cat18 06-12-2010 10:35 PM

Sometimes I feel like I have quilting ADD. I have quilts in every stage -- patterns and fabric chosen but not cut, tops that still need borders, tops that need batting and backing, quilts that need to be bound, quilts that need to be labelled, etc. I am trying to work on my UFO's, though!

StitchnFind 06-13-2010 02:21 AM

i dont think i will ever get them all done. i finish one or two and then find four or five more projects that i need to make. haha I think its a never ending battle of the UFO's.haha

I am in....I am going to go with the theory that I will finish one as far as I can each week.....'as far as I can' means till I run out of fabric or need wadding etc as money is tight, I have to buy in small quantities over time at the moment.

no1jan 06-13-2010 02:28 AM

I have only been quilting since the last week of November but have many UFO. I am trying to finish one up now.

I have 2 quilt tops that are almost finished, but don't go upstairs when it is this hot. I do have air up there but seems useless when I only get to stay up there for about an hour.

My goal is to finish everything my the end of the year. Plus new ones I'm sure!

lots2do 06-13-2010 03:55 AM

Oh, I have so many, I'd cringe if I had to count them. There aren't all big projects at all, just unfinished. July is going to be my sewing month so I hope to make a dent in the pile, too.
This is my last week of school and it's so busy. Making things relaxes me but there really isn't any time to get into a project which frustrates me. Oh well, if I'm patient and just plug through this week, I should be rewarded with some time.

pollyjvan9 06-13-2010 04:52 AM

I'm still trying to count how many UFOs (I call them WIPs) I have! I have divided them into groups. Tops only, needs binding only, sandwiched but not quilted, blocks that need to be assembled, etc. This makes me sound like I never finish anything but I really do. I have a BOM I have been working on for 13 mos will finish it this month for my GDs college graduation (only a month late. FMQ a top I made a year or so ago for a BD present for a friend should finish in a day or so. Will decide what do next when that is done.

patricej 06-13-2010 04:56 AM

i have a very firm, non-negotiable deadline for all my UFOs.

"someday"

Barbm 06-13-2010 04:56 AM

Check out the challenge 2010. We're all doing it now! It's on the Main page on the top.

  Ditto! I work better when I don't have a deadline (due to health issues).

trupeach1 06-13-2010 09:18 AM

Me, too, Bitty! Its all about the money! and "why?". I don't like to push myself to do something I enjoy so much. In retirement, there are no deadlines!! Really, I do know what you mean, but new quilts keep getting in the way!

Tennessee Suzi 06-13-2010 10:58 AM

Since retirement I find it harder to find time to finish anything!! FYI, don't wait until your sewing room is clean.....it will be dirty when you are gone! My 88 year old mother and I have designated Wednesdays to sew! She is in Fl. and I'm in Tn. One down and it went well! HAPPY QUILTING

HAHAHAHAHA that is waaaaaaaaaay too funny!! I dread the poor person who has to go through all my stuff someday. They will curse me big time! I also have ADD when it comes to quilting. I think a lot of us do

Kitsie 06-13-2010 12:52 PM

If "someday" ever comes, we're all going to be in so much trouble for ALL of our "someday" deadlines. Can you imagine what would happen if everyone in the world had to do all their "someday" things? Give the word "chaos" a new meaning doesn't it!

CAROLJ 06-13-2010 03:42 PM

OK you inspired me, working on my regular project, but I also pulled out and set up the baby quilt to finish.

Am I adding this on to "Rhapsody"? :-D

tmg 06-13-2010 05:04 PM

I am waiting to get a new sewing machine before I finish 3 quilts all they need is to be quilted and binding. The machine I have now just doesn't do well at quilting

Pamela Artman 06-13-2010 05:11 PM

I'm in.... well, kinda sorta. My current project is a commissioned quilt, a double wedding ring. That should take me a few more weeks to finish. When that's done, I'm back to working on UFOs. I made two resolutions in January. One was to NOT buy any fabric unless I needed it to finish a project I had already started and two was to work only on UFOs. Both of these resolutions are to last until October when I go on my quilting vacation with my 2 quilting friends. I finished 4 tops, have another finished except for the border, and am working on an appliqued border for the 6th one. I have about 100 more UFOs, so as soon as this double wedding ring quilt is sent to the quilter, I'm back into my UFOs. My deadline is October 17th when I leave on my vacation. Then the UFOs get put away because I'm sure I'll be buying some new fabric and starting some new quilts!

tortoisethreads 06-13-2010 05:21 PM

Oh, I am so sick of my UFO. The funny part is that is such a simple small quilt! I decided to hand quilt circles all over it! UUUHHGG! One circle then another. I should finish it though! I'm giving myself a month!

We recently discussed that my oldest DD has the privelege of dealing with my sewing room when I leave this world. Hopefully it will be a lot of years from now and a lot of UFOs from now.

My problem is that all my children are MALE !!! Won't my future DIL's just love me even more??? lol

mbunny 06-13-2010 09:22 PM

Um, so, does the one I started in oh, 2002 count as a ufo? Or my daughter's unfinished baby quilt (she's three now)? Yeesh. I'll promise to finish one by the end of 2010, ha ha.

Pineapple Princess 06-13-2010 10:08 PM

I have a project that should be done at the end of the month and then a queen size quilt that I'm hand-quilting (bad idea) that I'll should finish by September.

reginalovesfabric 06-14-2010 05:14 AM

count me in...I've been organizing my fabric room and finding things not complete that I have forgotten about. I sewed all day yesterday and finished two tops, got dozens left....HA, (it's not funny)

Connie Merritt 06-14-2010 06:16 AM

I am presently hand quilting a redwork quilt, machine quilting another one, making yoyo's (never ending), finishing the names of my g-grandsons on a quilted angel (only 10 years late for one and happily not yet a year for another) and I never do the evening dishes. Everyone these unfinished projects are what keep us waking up each morning so we can do start another project. Love to each of you, what a great place. Good thoughts

hee hee. Me too! I have a couple projects that have to get done by Christmas since they are presents. I have a list that is supposed to help me get stuff done.

tryitall 06-14-2010 10:51 AM

Sorry, not me. I think it would squash my "creativity". lol

tryitall 06-14-2010 10:51 AM

Like it!

I like your deadline. It's been mines for a while now. I have finished 3 UFOs in the last 6 months. I always have something come up that strays me away from my UFOs. I'm taking the summer off to focus on my UFOs. Nothing else can creep on my plate until it's clean. :hunf:

I decided this year to "try" to complete the pieces that I have pieced -- they are done -- not quilted or bound. I've finished 2 to this point -- got 2 more. I came to this decision since I really like making the tops & then remembered a new friend showed me her quilting -- it was all pieced items -- nothing finished. (maybe 20 pieces dating back to the 1980's) I decided to make a New Year's resolution this year; I didn't want what she had. (I'm 3-4 years into quilting) So although I've got lots of things I've accumulated & a new lap quilt cut out -- nothing is going to continue until I've got everything that's been pieced has been finished. It's hard; but, I don't want lots of tops like my new quilting friend.

I just finished a baby quilt for a friend's son, to bad he's now 21.

Annz 06-14-2010 05:51 PM

I am but can I have an extended time? Like one year.

sewmom 06-14-2010 06:42 PM

i signed up for the 2010 ufo challenge: Jan.-done; Feb.-done March-marched right by and it's now a double UFO!LOL. but in my defense, i've made a couple of baby quilts(3) and a queen top in the same amount of time and created 2 more UFOs. I've also been trying to get my fabric organized on boards and clean and organize my sewing room. when i'm not doing that, i'm at our cottage painting. when the rooms are painted, i can take my machine there and maybe get some of these UFOs finished.

Iraxy 06-14-2010 06:54 PM

I have been cleaning up my UFO's. Last week I took 6 to the quilter (going to have to keep working to support my local quilter) and have been finishing up a large log cabin quilt to use up some of my stash. I have a quilting retreat coming up in August and know there will be something I will want to start and fabric that I will want to purchase.
So, I'm in. Only have about 8-10 UFO's going (that I will admit to.)

MadQuilter 06-14-2010 07:51 PM

Patrice and I will have lots to show on the same time table....someday. lol

elizabeth 06-14-2010 07:54 PM

I wish I knew of a place that charges only75.00 to FMQ a queen size.
