So... I think we Americans have so much that we don't recognize when enough is enough. (When will I have enough fabric, for example? Today was the last day for the 25% discount. I had to sit on my hands to NOT to order fabric that I didn't need so that I wouldn't feed my addition. But I DID IT!) When I feel the adrenaline rush that comes from the potential of making an unnecessary purchase, I feel most successful when I take the money I'm ABOUT to spend needlessly/waste and give it to people who really need it. Otherwise, I just have more STUFF to get rid of later. Some days I do better than others ;)

I have a Viking I bought 35 years ago, still running hard and well. I do look at some of the others I think because they are new and clean (smile) Paid $400.00 back then recond it will last me the rest of my life. I need to stop drooling....

I am the same way...I saw the brother project runway at walmart and really wanted it...They are supposed to be really good machines....I love machines too!

Don't forget to take your machines out about every six to eight months and run them for a minute or so to prevent them from freezing up. The old oil can gel and seize up.

Why is a cheap Brother machine at WM making my heart flutter? My old White does a perfectly good job...she even does fmq if the user would get better at it! And she's a pretty green color too. Is there a thing as machine addiction like there is fabric addiction?

You are, after all, asking an entire community of quilters, sewers and embroiders if you have a "disease" where a new machine is concerned!!!!! I have an old 1230 Bernina, a Viking #1+, Designer II, Designer 1 and an SE/LE. I have already sold my old Viking #1 and am getting ready to sell/donate my #1+ and Designer II machines. I just can't give up my 1230 Bernina (love that machine), or the Designer I or the SE. I am trying to be "normal" about this but the lady who is looking at the #1+ and Designer II already has two other machines. If this is a disease I have it and apparently it is catching. Never does a day go by that I don't look somewhere on the Internet for different kinds of machines. I'm not greedy, I just love to see what is out in the market. As for having machines that aren't being used to their full potential, you don't have to use machines in that way, we love them, we feel comforted, we feel useful and yes we even feel creative. If you have the financial means to purchase a new machine don't feel guilty just enjoy the chase looking for your new baby. Good Luck

I love this. I started out with a Kenmore for 26 years. When it died, I now have 8. I really didn't need the last ones, but they called to me and I couldn't let them be lonely. :D
