Yesterday morning I wanted to check out the local quilt clubs and what I found was that the closest one...about 28 miles was having a quilt show on Oct. 1 & 2. So, guess where I headed to. Not a very large show, but beautiful work on display from the guild members, silent auction and a quilt raffle. Also, about 15 vendors. One vendor had fat quarters in a basket, but there was no price on them...I asked how much $ and she told me $1 each. I guess because the other vendors had them for 2.50 and up, nobody took time to ask about them. So, I took the basket and put it on a chair so I could see and I went through them. I picked out 50 FQ's, most of which I found two of. About 3/4 of the way through looking, others started digging too and grabbing. One lady even helped me find matches to the ones I had layed out. I think the vendor will sell all of the FQ's now, she told me she was going to leave them up off the floor so they are easier to reach. Vendor happy, me extremely happy...lots of these are MODA fabrics, not sure how many as they were folded and rolled. Also bought some patterns and wide rick rack.
I also sat through the most amazing woman's lecture and trunk show. ***Kaye England was the guest speaker and the lecture was free with show admission. She is the funniest, most down to earth person you will ever meet. All of the classes were filled already for fri. night, sat, and sunday. I bought a CD of her techniques and she autographed a book that I got there. I also talked to some of the local members before I left the show and I am going to go to their next meeting as a visitor in a couple of weeks. I had the most amazing unplanned day. Had to share! |
Wow! What a delightful day!
What an awesome day! Glad you had a good time - now you will know to watch for it and maybe go again next year (or in two, some of the smaller ones are every other year).
Even more delightful as it was unplanned until the last minute. |
What a great day for you life is good
Wow, I don't get many of those, but when I do it is so wonderful! Glad you shared your day!
Sounds like you had a perfect day!

I'm so happy for you that you got a little getaway day to yourself. Going to those shows always inspires me to get going again.
What a wonderful day. I hope the group is as wonderful as their show. It is a good indication I would think.
Dumb question, but how do you find out where the shows are?
Sara, What a great day. The unplanned ones are some of the best. So what are you going to make with all your new found goodies?
So glad for your very happy day! What a find on the FQ's!

You can search by your state or by your county to see what is available and where. Hope this helps. |

Oh how fun is that!!
Unplanned makes it even more special and rememberable:)
Wow, that sounds like such a fun day.
Glad you had a great day! Do we get to see what you make with your new found treasures?
Sounds like a great adventure. I haven't done a turning twenty but it sounds like you have what you need to start one. I kinda wish I had gone to the show.
Sounds like my kind of day.
I've done a couple of Turning Twenty quilts and really like them. I even used 10 FQ to make what I called a "Twisted Ten". Sort of made it up as I went along, for a lap-size quilt.
BTW, where are you located in MN? I live in Lino Lakes in the summertime. |
Sounds like you had a fun day.
Thanks for sharing your joyful day! I am so happy for you!
Sounds like a fun day.

Last weekend went to a quilt show and one vendor had a whole table of fat quarters--No sign etc. I asked how much and she said $1.25. Lots were batiks, so I ended up with 46 fat quarters. I guess they make fat quarters out of all the bolts that have a yard or less on them. Seems they do that all the time and then put them out when they vend at a show. I will remember and check their vendor booths out first at the next show.
Sounds like a wonderful day! Glad you had he chance to enjoy yourself.
What quilt show was that?
Sigh!
Sounds just wonderful! I found FQ's for a buck at a recent show, too, but I didn't buy 50 of them! |

Sounds like a spectacular day.

Sometimes it is the most unexpected plans that come your way is what inspires you the most. I like those kinds of 'finds'.
Sounds like you had a really fine day. Kaye England has been at our guild for classes and lectures and I agree, she's a wonderful speaker - so funny and down to earth!!
Oh you are lucky, I tried to see Kay at our show in Loveland but she had to cancel because her husband was hospitalized. I had heard the same, that she is great to listen to. What a nice day! Glad you had a good time. :)
