Why would you be ashamed??? I think it's adorable! Where did you get the ladybugs next to the name? Are they embroidered?

I think you did a great job. It obviously means a lot to him. Are you feeling guilty because you didn't make a more complicated one or spend a little more time with it? Don't. I think it is so cute.

My thoughts on the matter, no one can over-value or your work. His generousity is exactly inline with his appreciation and greatfulness. Smile and accept it with the heart it was given with. :)

I made a baby quilt at the request of a friend. He is a new grandpa. It was very simple. Mom wanted specific colors and nothing girlie. I did have to make a run to a quilt shop to get some of the fabric (80 miles round trip).
I embroidered the little girl's name, birthdate and a couple of lady bugs on it. The entire quilt top had 40 pieces in it. I have made single blocks with nearly that many pieces! Quilted it, bound it and delivered it to Grandpa with an estimate of the costs of what I had in it. He paid me the cost of materials plus 3.5 times that for labor/design, etc... I was shocked. He insists it is worth it to him. My husband says, "Tell him you are glad he values your work so much. Thank him and accept graciously." I am trying but I am accustomed to being UNDERvalued. What do you think? BTW, I've heard several times that 3 times the cost of materials is a good price. I don't agree because I can sometimes make stuff next to free on my end. And next to nothing is still next to nothing when multiplied by 3. |

Many years ago a friend wanted me to make a confirmation dress for her daughter - when I priced it out for her (fabric, notions, my labor, etc.) she said "but I could buy one for less than that!" so I told her to go out and buy it. Understand that while you think the quilt is almost too simple, the customer asked you to make it because he couldn't do it himself. And he is willing to pay you for your skills and talent. Just because it was easy for you doesn't mean it would be easy for everyone else. You have expertise and how lucky that you have someone who understands that and wants to honor it with a tangible reward ($$$). So say thank you, don't feel guilty, the quilt is lovely and perfect for a new baby girl. And worth every penny he paid you.

It just shows how much he appreciated what you did for him and his grandchild, how sweet!! Enjoy!

To you simple. To a proud grandpa it is priceless. Something he cant go buy at a sote.
It is/was made with love, thought and consideration. Yes you earned every penny. And it will be snuggled under and loved. |
The quilt is lovely, you made it to Mom's instructions and Granddad is happy. Enough said. Take the money, your creation is worth whatever you received.
