Dont get me wrong~ I think PIF is great and some of the fabric should go that way. But you have put in ALOT of work and time plus the money you spent on fabric and gas. It is my humble opinion that you should offer for sale too - maybe at 2.50/yard....you will have done all the hard work for us not to mention the time and materials to ship fabric. I am in. If you dont want to put in classifieds right away you can pm me and I will give you my email

Looking forward to your sales thanks cheryl

What is PIF?

Thats what I just told my husband I was going to PIF just for postage once I go through it. Might take me a year but I will. :)

luce321 04-28-2011 03:47 AM

WOW! You are going to have a blast going through all of that. What fun!

Maybe, it's time for you to go on a "Outside your Stash" shopping trip. I do that once in a while when I look at my stash and see a color absent.

Most recently I have been adding Batiks, some blues, a few oranges (yuk), and always a variety background fabrics whenever I can find them.

I also add colors that I have to go out and purchase for my SP's for use in future SP swaps. My stash is void of pastels, but I am building a swap stash for those who like them.

Happy dance....enjoy your windfall!

Aimee G 04-28-2011 04:01 AM

Very nice. Congrats to you for getting such a fabulous deal :)

SueDor 04-28-2011 04:04 AM

Lucky you!

doll-lady 04-28-2011 04:08 AM

congratulations on such a wonderful deal.

katyquilter 04-28-2011 04:15 AM

that was an awesome find. I found a similar sale on Craigslist the end of January and am still amazed at what I am finding. I now go to my "guest room quilt shop" instead of my LQS. I'll be piecing quilts forever without having to leave home!! Good luck with sorting and finding a place for everything.

roadrunr 04-28-2011 05:01 AM

What a terrific find and I'm sure you'll be able to make lots of quilts for charity (that's what I would do with all that material) and you'll still have materila left for you to make as gifts.

laughingquilter 04-28-2011 05:21 AM

Hope you've got LOTS of space - good luck on sorting - you should be set for years!!! Congratulations!

hoppa 04-28-2011 05:49 AM

I sat last night and went through a bunch of the boxes. Man I found some really cool fabrics in there. But no browns LOL. I found a lion king panel...just as cute as cute can be, there was Dalmations with Fire Hydrants and Fire trucks. I am going to make my husbands 6 year old nephew a quilt out of that, I found a Princess panel and 2 pillow case panels to match and Im going to make a quilt for his 1 year old neice. Just simple quilts is all though. There was sunflower fabric, there is even a Pillsbury Dough Boy fabric and once I dig it out from under the pile I topped it with I will take a picture of that one.
There is alot of that fabric that you would make table cloths out of...its like a crochet looking pattern but its really all done on a machine, but there is white, off white, black, a yellowish color and red. My husband at first thought it was curtains. I found 6 fat quarters of doggie fabric, there is also a panel of penguins and some yardage of penguins.

Margie 04-28-2011 07:56 AM

15 yards of red fabric would be WONDEFUL for Christmas stockings for the troops overseas!

clem55 04-28-2011 08:04 AM

green with envy

kso 04-28-2011 09:23 AM

NUTMEG10 04-28-2011 01:13 PM

Congratulation you hit the jackpot. That will keep you busy for awhile.

Shorebird 04-28-2011 01:23 PM

That is truly a neat story.........wonderfu bargain!!

pjnesler 04-28-2011 01:28 PM

Great find - we should all be so lucky "someday" :)

Windsong 04-28-2011 04:13 PM

What a find!! I wish I could run into someone like that that needed to get rid of a lot of fabric. I make Quilts of Valor for the wounded soldiers that come back from Iraq and Afghanistan and are in the VA hospitals.

Enjoy going through all that fabric, it's better than Christmas, isn't it!!!!

butterflies5518 04-28-2011 05:43 PM

wanna share? I drive an suv! congrats on being in the right place at the right time, awesome.

mzmama 04-28-2011 06:40 PM

Why are you suddenly washing all the fabric? Just wondered.

quilting librarian 04-28-2011 06:41 PM

 I wouldn't have anywhere to put that much fabric. But I would figure something out! Congratulations on your score!

connie d 04-28-2011 08:01 PM

Congratulations. :D

Katz13203 04-28-2011 09:06 PM

Lucky you for that great find.

montanajan 04-28-2011 10:05 PM

Are you saying thats all from Wally World!!! Why was it all on sale? Wheres your Patio? [/quote]

No, it is not all from Wall Mart - she spoke with a woman there who was getting rid of her stash, and drove to that woman's home for all these boxes full of fabric - at $1.oo/yd. Quite a find!!

Rettie V. Grama 04-29-2011 03:19 AM

Come on now. Your message says you went to Walmart today. You didn't say you bought all this at Walmart. Will you try to be a little more specific as to what you did and how much you paid per yard. I went on line at Walmart and couldn't find any fabric, just c rafts such as precut projects.

Its not that I don't believe you, I just want to know more.

I don't know how much fabric there is in there for sure, but I DO know that I quit adding it up after I got to 200 yards...and that is NOT COUNTING a gazillion panels. I know I won't use all of it, but I know for a fact that there is enough fabric to not only make a ton of quilts, but backing fabric also. In total so far there are 24 banana boxes stuffed full and a duffle bag and an over sized tote bag. Heres a picture of the boxes. Im leaving them on my patio as I want to wash every single bit of the stuff. This is only 12 of them as the other 12 are in the washers up in the laundry room. I am going to be washing fabric for a year!! lol

CarrieAnne 04-29-2011 03:48 AM

Read all the posts. She retells the story on the first page.
She did not buy from Walmart, but from a lady she met at Walmart.

Because she had all the fabric in storage. And to make sure that it didnt smell like cigarette smoke or other smells. :)

Patty 04-29-2011 07:48 PM

what luck!! good for you. It pays to be a little chatty with your fellow shoppers sometimes doesn't it?

earthwalker 04-29-2011 08:10 PM

I had to chuckle when you mentioned there was yards of red and who would want it. I am making a mindless, wonky, scrappy and was thinking of sashing it in black. My DH said, why not another colour (this is going on the marital bed and will be QS). I said, cool, you choose and while you're out and about you pick up the fabric....Well, he picked red and I now have metres and metres of the stuff....

Anyway, I am really enjoying this thread...reading about all that is in there is almost as good as my own "finds".
What a good home this bundle has found, you seemed to have most of it earmarked for projects. I think a previous poster was spot on...sell what you can't/don't want to use. All that sorting, washing and ironing deserves a little cash back!

I agree that she has no obligation to "give it away" to anyone. She drove over there, paid for it, loaded/unloaded it, is now washing it, ironing it, sorting it, etc. It is hers.

OP...enjoy your fabric, and what you don't want...I'm sure QB members will relieve you at a decent price (or even not so decent--I've seen up to $6/yard for fabric that I know cost about $4 at Walmart originally.)

:)

To the person who asked, I think PIF means "Pay it forward" meaning, I believe..."give it away".

I do not believe she needs to feel like she has to "give it away"--any of it. Making it available for us to buy would be good fortune for most here.

Too bad you can't contact the SD or is it WI branch since they said that they have too many quilts in storage and aren't accepting anymore.

Does your Q of Valor ever have that problem? because it might actually be smart to contact the other one and see if they want to share with some farther south. Probably the northern most ones have more quilts because the winters are so long and people stay inside more when the weather is cold.

How many quilts a year do you all make/distribute? I'm just curious...not trying to hijack this thread...

normasews 04-29-2011 08:39 PM

Lucky you! That's more than what I can stuff in my sewing space.
Have fun with it.

sewnsewer2 04-29-2011 08:43 PM

OMG!! How awesome, CONGRATS on your find.

Marvel 04-30-2011 07:13 AM

You are an inspiration to the rest of us. With the cost of material going up by the minute we should buy all we can and hoard it.

fabric lover 04-30-2011 07:20 AM

Ohhhhhh lucky you! congratulations. It'll be a lot of work to get it organised but sooooooooo well worth it. Well done.

booklady 04-30-2011 07:40 AM

Enjoy your find!
