Update on New Project

3 Attachment(s)
Well it took about 2 weeks but I have completed my project of cutting all my scraps into sizes (2.5, 3, 3.5, 4, 4.5, and 5 inch squares and then 1.5, 2, and 2.5 stripes) and my larger pieces are all refolded and some cut into 10 inch squares. Now I am ready to start the New Year and get started on some new projects.

helou 12-27-2011 04:31 AM

If only I could get that organized. heheeh! I tried it once and someone gave me 3 big trash bags of scraps. I'll never get ahead. Good job by the way!

Drew 12-27-2011 05:56 AM

Great Job! I started on it before Christmas then stopped. Must get back to it, but I DREAD it!!

littlesurfer 12-27-2011 06:09 AM

You did a great job organizing all your scrap fabrics. I recently did this very same thing and only have a small amount of scraps and couldn't believe how long it took me.

Sunnye 12-27-2011 06:23 AM

Congratulations! Can you come to my house?

ka9sdn 12-27-2011 07:55 AM

I need to follow your ideas and get busy.

Tartan 12-27-2011 08:19 AM

How exciting! Everything looks so neat and tidy and just waiting for you to jump into your new project.

I'm sorry but I do not it was given to me and she did not tell me where she bought it. The full saying is She Quilts I Cook, I will try to remember to ask my friend where she got it.

BLAP 12-27-2011 09:27 AM

I'm not sure I could work in such a well organized space.LOL

I am planning on making quilts for Project Linus, I think I have enough scraps for at least 3 or 4 quilts before I need to dig into my regular stash. I just need to decide on a pattern now.

Sandra in Minnesota 12-27-2011 02:55 PM

Wow - Great job on all that fabric - love the tee shirt too.

Lisa Marie 12-27-2011 06:53 PM

Good for you! Please share with us your creations from all that hard work.

sewbeadit 12-28-2011 02:16 AM

raedar63 12-28-2011 03:00 AM

What an inspiration seeing all of your organization !

angelahen 12-28-2011 03:48 AM

You are so organised! Well done. My scraps remain crumpled up in the scarp bag!

coldquilter 12-28-2011 05:33 AM

that is so nice to have it that organized. I keep trying to work on that but I get sidetracked easily.

KR 12-28-2011 05:57 AM

Great job and so organized! Can't wait to see what you'll be making with all your squares....have fun!!

anniesews 12-29-2011 04:48 AM

Your sewing area looks so nice. When I get mine all neat, then I hate to start new projects as I know it will get messy again. But, new projects are better than a neat room. :-)

ccthomas 12-29-2011 06:19 AM

Great inspiration. Looks like a perfect New Year's Resolution.

yellowwroses 12-29-2011 06:23 AM

Good job. Will have to try that.

Happy Linda 12-29-2011 06:48 AM

You are so smart and tidy. I would feel great about myself if I had done the same. Hmmm! Think I will.

Cuddly Quilter 12-29-2011 07:05 AM

Fantastic - well done. I went through my jelly rolls and colour sorted them and put them folded into plastic packets and back into the plastic container. I also moved my fat 1/4 from a cardboard box into large plastic shoes boxes so i can now see the type of fabrics i have. It does feel wonderful and so rewarding. I have a huge box of scraps and that is waiting for when i have TIME, yegh, when do quilters have time? to cut and sort into crumbs colour packets or squares as well. Wish i was in your shoes already and have that completed. Do you want to come over and help. Live in SA lol

Brenda M 12-29-2011 07:10 AM

lfstamper 12-29-2011 07:13 AM

crafterrn1 12-29-2011 08:14 AM

Nicely done. Looks good. Have fun making your scrap quilts! That is my next project! Luann

quilt addict 12-29-2011 08:19 AM

Great job and way to stick with it. It will be so fun and easy now to create those Linus quilts.

Quilting Nonnie 12-29-2011 09:08 AM

You're an inspiration! I've been sporadically cutting my scraps into usable building blocks. I just get behinder and behinder because I'm creating more scraps than I'm cutting them into organized pieces. I like how you took a week and just got it done. I will have to do this. I thought I didn't have too many scraps, but while organizing my scraps over my Winter Break I found I have two trash can liners full of scraps!

One thing that I've been doing the last few months is to cut the scraps into useful pieces for every project I am working on before I go to another. I will keep this up and once I've got the trash bags taken care of, I will not have to gather them again!

blueangel 12-29-2011 09:25 AM

Congratulations. Looks really neat.

nclauri 12-29-2011 09:41 AM

Congratulations! Make sure to post what you make with your reclaimed stash.

AnnieF 12-29-2011 09:52 AM

I took a Scrap Therapy class about 4 years ago and started working on my scraps....pulled them from every room in the house. My husband wanted to know what I was doing as I was watching TV in the evenings. I told him that the scraps I was cutting up cost the same as the yards of fabric and I was creating fabric to use. I keep a listing of the quilts I make and am on Quilt #14.....that's 14 scrap lap quilts that were essentially "free". Since we've been doing so much with 5" squares, my project is going through my stash and cutting out 5" (nickel) squares. I put 20 of them together sometimes in color families, sometimes in fabric type (batiks, baby) and sell each pile for $2 each at my quilt guild's flea market every January. Last year, I just didn't have the time to cut and sort so didn't have a table at the flea market.....people were looking for the packets so this year I found the time to do it again. I make roughly $60-70 each year and the good part is that anything that doesn't sell, I use for projects throughout the year...they're already sorted.

AnnieH 12-29-2011 10:28 AM

You put me to shame. I must do this. Well done. Love the tee shirt too.

CoventryUK 12-29-2011 10:43 AM

I straightened up my quilting room this past summer, now it is a mess because of Christmas projects. I would like to organize the room better but it doesn't have a closet so everything is sitting out and it is the computer room. It is a hassle to vacuum because I have to move everything to one side and get on hands and knees to vacuum under cutting table and computer table. I like the idea of plastic containers with tags on the ends to say what is in them!
Sorry I just needed to vent! I am fortunate that I now have a separate room for quilting and don't have to drag everything out when I want to sew.

katigirl 12-30-2011 01:05 AM

Sounds like you get to end the year in a super organized fashion. Congrats and enjoy the new year and your projects too.

JabezRose 12-30-2011 02:28 AM

What is that bright light coming in the window? Looks familiar, is it warm? Most of my scraps are hanging in bags from the basement ceiling in one corner. Kind of looks like a alien hatchery thing going on. Can't walk in that corner upright.
