Has anyone ever tried using felt as batting?

I have used both felt and fleece as batting. They have both worked for me. I just machine quilted them as I would any quilt. The fleece is very similar to a low loft poly batting and the felt has a little more body than a regular batting but I had no problems with it. I have also used old blankets, too. It really depends on what I am making though. I don't know if I would use it on anything very large.

Try it in a small doll quilt first and see how you like it.

I have never thought of that...what a good idea> Thanks!

Wouldn't it depend on the felt? What it is made of?

How does it hold up in the wash? I'm thinking it might shrink at a different rate than the cotton top and backing.

I'd think felt would wash apart.

I don't think felt will hold up long if it's washed. I wouldn't use it.

I would check it for bleeding color. Isn't felt made of wool? Might also check for shrinkage unless it is like a wall hanging and seldom washed.

Blessings,
Ruth

I thought felt was wool - washed and mushed about (technical term - lol)
