You would need to cut the fabric on the bias .... starch it well first, and you'll have no problems.
Just be sure that you keep the blocks large enough to really show the fabric's design.

Or what about going a step further ... and instead of cutting squares on the bias ... and cut them as diamonds. Oh I like that idea!!


Another option ... it would make a beautiful backing for a front pieced with coordinating fabrics.

Thanks to y'all for the really great suggestions. I'm going to try a lattice-look or window-look two colors of sashing. May even try the diamonds!
