Using strongly directional fabric - how??

I don't know how to use this one fabric with its strongly directional vertical lines. Stick it in a rectangle and sash it? Put on point? Cut up really small ? LOL Ideas? Thanks! |
Any of those would work fine. The next question is would you want it to go every which direction for a scrappy look, or all go the same way for uniformity of blocks.

Warm Wishes or Shadow Box? Some pattern where you can cut large squares of rectangles and leave the pieces right side up. OR treat the long leaves as stripes and see if you can cut blocks to make them all point inward like a 60* triangle (OBW) or 45 * (Cardtrick)?

It would be a lovely fabric to showcase in a garden trellis pattern.
You would need to cut the fabric on the bias .... starch it well first, and you'll have no problems. Just be sure that you keep the blocks large enough to really show the fabric's design. Or what about going a step further ... and instead of cutting squares on the bias ... and cut them as diamonds. Oh I like that idea!! Another option ... it would make a beautiful backing for a front pieced with coordinating fabrics. |
Or how about a wide border. Either have the print all go in the same direction, or have it 'pointing out' on each of the 4 sides.

There is a pattern called Easy Breezy for large print fabrics. Use the print as the center of your quilt -- anywhere from 1-1/2 to 2 yds, put a narrow border around it, then a piano key border with coordinating fabrics.

How about using the Attic Window. Make it look as if you see looking into the garden from a window. I think it would be beautiful.
