I just to Connecting Threads & they said that they no longer carry thr verigated threads!
SewThankful is my source. Good prices, great service. Small family business too.
I bought some at a local shop today-$9.50 a spool. and I can't find the brand they carry (wonderfil brand) very many places, online or off. I think I may switch brands but I hate buying online to save a couple bucks only to pay it back and more in shipping. But the local shop has very few colors to choose from and haven't gotten new ones in a long time (like a year).

Google "YLI". 100 % Mercerized cotton. 100 % Long staple cotton.....beautiful colors. I have "Royalty"....it's beautiful: blue tones.

I like Valdani,King Tut,Robison-Anton,Aurifl and YLI threads. The King Tut at my LQS is $13./spool - I like it but it is pricey so thought I woud try a few others. |

I believe my LQS long armer uses King Tut quite a bit.
Purplefiend - Is there any difference between these brands? Is one stronger, better to sew with or does one leave more lint in the bobbin chamber?
The King Tut at my LQS is $13./spool - I like it but it is pricey so thought I woud try a few others.
The Valdani comes in 35wt. and 50 wt. King Tut is a 40wt. thread that is nearly lint free,Robison-Anton that I use is 50wt. YLI (40wt.)is just wonderful stuff , not real linty either; and Aurifil is nearly lint free too. It depends on the quilt as to what thread I use, they all do beautifully in a home sewing machine. Some of them work better with a long arm quilter machine. I experimented with the different brands/weights to see what I liked and worked best for me. When I'm machine quilting I use a 90/14 or 100/16 top stitch or denim needle, machine quilting needles if I can find them. Does that answer your questions? |
You can try www.softexpressions.com or www.redrockthreads.com in addition to www.superiorthreads.com
Purplefiend - Thanks!! :) Great info! I will definitely try them.

i've gotten some at joann's fabrics.
I think Thread Art carries it. I have also bought it from JoAnns and Hobby Lobby. Hobby lobby just put som fabric on line, I think the thread is on line too.
superiorthreads.com - they have a huge selection. I get all my longarm quilting thread from them.

Try Joann's Fabrics online. I was in the store today and they had lots of verigated thread so they probably have it online also.
i go to
www.baysidequilting.com when they have a sale. i'm not bonded to any particular brand as long as the weight is right, and i use poly, rayon, and silk, as well as cotton. i've tried all the brands they sell. if the needle eye is smooth and the quality of the thread is good, i never have a problem. except with invisible thread. yuck. i don't know why that didn't make a link. sorry. try this: https://www.baysidequilting.com/stor...?idCategory=90 (nope) just look up threads and bobbins, then choose the thread you're interested in. they're having a sale right now on valdani, a very nice thread, $3.00, a good price. sometimes they close out colors. that's when i buy. http://www.baysidequilting.com/ - - at long last!!! and a sale on superior, $5.00. nice. |
I've found it at Connecting Threads and Nancy's Notions they usually have it in stock and occassionally on sale.
I love variegated thread. Not all is made well, though. I purchased a pink and white for a rag quilt and I am now having to reinforce the seams by hand with my old standby, Gutterman, b/c the seams are coming apart and I am afraid to finish it without this precaution. This is the first time I have had this problem though! Find a brand that works and stick to it. Don't just buy something that is pretty... that is what I did.
I just checked out the King Tut threads. They have beautiful colors and great reviews. I think I will try it. If I love it would it be wrong to ask for a full set.... very expensive! It would. I will just buy it 1 or 2 spools at a time if I like it.
hello dears. I love Long Creek Mills .com for any thread. And always connecting threads
try www.connectingthreads.com I was told about this site from a fellow quilter.[/quote
They did have it in sets too awhile back but stopped having it. I was lucky to get them all. If you call, maybe they have some back stock. I love the site and also love getting their catalog. I call them my wish books. I keep them all. Check it out. |

I can't wait to try King Tut. I would love to find another brand or two to rely on so I have more choices. Until I can afford to order some KT it is back to Gutterman. |
You might try Metro embroidery thread, its a poly, I think they have varg. Have good sales too.
I bought mine at threadart and Joanns. And the quilting shop 50 miles away.
Try www.cottonpatch.co.uk they have a very large collection of their own brand threads including loads and loads of varigated thread. I have used them and they are quite reasonbly priced aswell.
Cheers Doreen G |
Okay. I'm new enough at this that I don't know what varigated thread is used for. Is it that thread that has different colors in it? That what varigated means in plants. Tell me why it's good to use.
