Here, in England, our tax is 17.5% but it's going up to 20% on 1st January!

In Oregon we don't have a sales tax on retail items....however, we don't have a high income here either overall. I believe I heard on NPR (Nat'l Public Radio) this morning our state individual earnings were 90% of the average US state income level.
I am so sorry to hear that others are paying such high combined prices and VAT rates for fabrics. How do you economize? I would think it would be hard to compete with quilters in the US if you are using the quilting for income. |
We pay 10.35% sales tax here where I live.

Here we have 10% GST (Goods & Services Tax). I pay $A20 to $A26 per metre on average but sew a 1/4 inch seam because most of the rulers, patterns etc for quilting are in inches.

In New Zealand we have just had an increase on our GST (goods and service tax) from 12.5% to 15%.
Having a quick look online at some local stores; fabric sells for $28 NZD per metre, that's around $20.50 USD. (1 metre approximately is 39.5 inches). |
8.1% in Las Vegas (Clark County)
0% for groceries. |
If I order on line from a company in another state and does not do any business in my state then I don't pay sales tax on that item. If I buy around my home area I will pay a sales tax in an amount that varies county to county Some states have no sales tax.

But from February it increases to 21%, so don't want to even contemplate the new price. I very rarely buy anything for my quilting here unless I'm desperate. It's more economical to buy from US even taking into account shipping and paying the TVA on arrival. |

What kind of tax do you have to pay on internet orders? Sometimes we have to pay (in Michigan) and other times not?

My girlfriend just came back from Delaware. I believe she told me that they had no sales tax in that state.
