My husband is going to be so happy I found this board so I can learn new things and buy more. ;-) He already says he needs to build a room onto our house to keep all my quilting things in. LOL!!

Varigated thread and decreative stitching cover up a multitude of errors!!

What is a good brand of variegated thread to buy for the hand embroidery work on a crazy quilt?

I love using varigated thread. Makes the quilt looks pretty cool when it uses all the colors of the fabrics and makes the design pop.

xsquilter 04-11-2011 05:16 PM

Any pictures? Don't think I've seen any with variegated thread.

Kutnso 04-12-2011 04:56 AM

KimS, you sure have a keeper there. You are very fortunate to have such a supportive hubby.
Be happy, Kutnso

BeckiQuilts 04-12-2011 04:58 AM

I am hand quilting my quilt right now with varigated thread for the firt time. I LOVE it. Was a little concerned that it didn't say for hand quilting, but it is wonderful.

He doesn't really have much choice.

quilter1943 04-12-2011 05:59 AM

and he's going in the right direction!!! You will need to add a room - a large room! Keep shopping and it won't take long. I love verigated thread, especially for FMQ. Looks great on kid's quilts also.

I love verigated thread but found my machine doesn't like the king tut thread but does like aurifil so that's good.

Doreen 04-12-2011 06:02 AM

I don't do hand embroidery, only machine now but I think you can use the same thread. I use Sulky, Robbison Atton, Gutterman, Coats & Clark, etc. there are so many different brands. A good place to find varigated thread is to go to a LQS that also sells sewing machines, especially if they have embroidery ones. You will find that there are different weights for different projects.

jeanneb52 04-12-2011 09:00 AM

Somehow I am always dissapointed when I am done. Same with yarn...I guess I have the fantasy in mind and it never looks the way I thought it would.

Wunder-Mar 04-12-2011 09:04 AM

Good for you - variegated thread is a terrific toy to play with!

Joselake 04-12-2011 09:14 AM

I have trouble with varigated thread. It keeps jamming up my bobbin and shredding. Dothey make cotton or is it polyester?

Try a different weight.

carslo 04-12-2011 10:39 AM

You might need to use a lighter weight thread in the bobbin.

Kj05 04-12-2011 10:59 AM

Just yesterday I found a quilt I had started quilting probably 5 years ago. It had gotten lost in the shuffle of my many moves during college. And I'd been using a variegated blue thread for the quilting. I love it more now than I think I did before even.

pbreon 04-12-2011 11:11 AM

I sure will!! My girlfriend/quilting buddies are chomping at the bit for it to get done so we can have some fun time sewing days... Come on over!!!! ;)

Hosta 04-12-2011 11:17 AM

I think variegated thread is so pretty sometimes I hate using it and just like looking at it but eventually I use it
