Well...yesterday I was on E-bay looking for some William Morris fabric and they wanted $25.50 for 1/2 yard!
But don't rush ladies & gents - they had 5 yds. available.
They probably still do!

Well, it went for $537 I don't see it, but hey if they want to spend money, they can send it my way!!

smagruder 07-08-2011 05:12 AM

They paid $8.95 a yard and did not get to choose the fabric. ???????????????????????????

Have been a collector for years. When we price to sell, we all know it is worth only what the buyer is willing to pay. I think some people get carried away on auctions.

sewbizgirl 07-08-2011 05:15 AM

If by "vintage" they meant WalMart fabrics from the 90's...

Somebody had some money to burn!

Donna Hall 07-08-2011 05:24 AM

NO!!!!!!!!! Unless you plan to use it.

sweetana3 07-08-2011 05:26 AM

1. It was a bidding war between two bidders.
2. You never know what the seller said privately about the contents. I have had long email conversations about items that never were shown on the listing.
3. If you like that, I know a lady with a living room full of the same stuff and she was having a garage/living room sale last week. Only one bolt looked newish. Piles and piles of earlier fabric.

Once I got a car trunk load of 70s vintage (probably hundreds of yards) for $75. Properly stored and the leftovers from an ebay reseller. Great fabric for our donation quilts if even used for the backs. We used it for a year.

quiltermo 07-08-2011 05:36 AM

They must have a lot more money than I do.

Stitchit123 07-08-2011 05:37 AM

I don't think so-- Most of those I have bought at Hancocks-and Wal-Mart in the last year for less than 4 $ and a few are in a JoAnns sale paper recently.

butterflies5518 07-08-2011 05:47 AM

OMG! That is really out there - they would have left me in their dust!

Ok, I got curious. When you figure the shipping, it was actually $9.20 / yard. yeah, more money than brains as my mom used to say.

On a separate note, had to see what "else" vintage they had too offer -- an OLD IBM pc - floppy drives / no hard drive - starting bid $449 !!! I gotta watch this to see if someone is stupid enough to buy. LOL LOL

Caroline S 07-08-2011 06:38 AM

That's crazy :hunf: When I make a monthly trip to my local thrift store I usually find a "goody" or several to add to the stash. I have calculated that the price per yard is about $1.29 on all I have purchased.

doll-lady 07-08-2011 06:51 AM

It must be someone who doesn't like to shop for fabric, wants some and trusts someone else's ideas more than their own I would think.

True, or else they need a particular piece that was shown.

Once I saw a bidding war between two people for John Deere, or maybe Case fabric. It went for over $100 for a smallish piece. I found 1/4 yard in my stash, and wondered if I could get $25 for it! :)

dixiechunk 07-08-2011 07:43 AM

VBG. Same reason some ladies drool over Brad Pitt or Johnny Depp. Same reason some folks get excited over garage sale and yard sale items I wouldn't take for free. Personal preference in tastes. There's something for everyone in quiltingat whatever price you are willing to pay.

Doreen 07-08-2011 07:52 AM

I have a whole closet full of "vintage" material!

hahaha....I was also thinking this stuff didn't look "vintage". There IS a difference in 80 years and 10 years.

jaciqltznok 07-08-2011 08:17 AM

Could be a quilter in Australia...or even Canada...that is still really cheap for them, but they will have to pay outrageous shipping and customs on it!

It really is no different than the people on here that are selling fabrics for $5-$7 per yard that I know we bought at WalMart in the mid 90's for less than $3yd....or at Hancock's in the late 90's for $4.00yd!(or less)

I would venture to say that 80% or more of the fabric sold here is NOT Quilt shop quality and the people selling it are making a pretty good mark up on their older fabrics.
If a person is NEW to quilting, then these OLD fabrics looks NEW at they think $5yd is a bargain, when in fact on those fabrics it really isn't!

I am glad to see the seller is moving her stash at a profit, but I hate to think what will happen if she has to ship that lot overseas and the person claims it was LOST in the mail! She will lose it all..and then some!

trolleystation 07-08-2011 08:17 AM

I was going to comment that the fabric is about as vintage as I am. Then I remembered that I am 'vintage'.......

actually "vintage" is 20+ years! ANTIQUE is 100+, everything else falls into "collectible"!

patski 07-08-2011 08:31 AM

what a way for us to clean out clutter!! Really some people will buy anything on ebay

Linn 07-08-2011 08:53 AM

Thats crazy. I dont think any of that fabric is pretty or a good quality

nwm50 07-08-2011 08:58 AM

good mercy !! It starts @ 1/2 yd on up to over a yard each !!
I don't think bidders are actuallly paying attention to what it all entails to. Even at 60 yards of something...it shouldnt be over $300, i would think. YIKES !!

talkn58 07-08-2011 09:04 AM

Call it VINTAGE and the price jacks up.
I don't consider Daisy Kingdom Vintage.

I also like to see what I am getting. This may sound dumb but what is vintage fabric?(Old, certain pattern, certain collections). OK I just looked in the dictionary and it said, "representative of or dating from a period long past" Mainly it talked about grapes, since I don't think they are talking about grape fabric , I guess it means it just looks old? Do you realize that they started that auction at .99 cents - WOW- 60 yds or not - I sure wouldn't pay that much for unseen/untouched fabric!!

IBQUILTIN 07-08-2011 09:44 AM

Geeze, maybe I should sell some of my Vintage fabrics. I seem to let them sit on the stash shelves. Anybody interested? Only $9.00 a yard + shipping lol

dorothylane 07-08-2011 10:23 AM

I would want to pick mine out too

DebbyT 07-08-2011 11:22 AM

If I had that much to spend, I would hand pick the different pieces at a quilt shop or Joanns.

Linda1 07-08-2011 12:29 PM

I couldn't and would't buy it. If course I probaby won't live long enough to sew what I have in my stash. LOL

brushandthimble 07-08-2011 12:40 PM

I reconize some of them I bought years ago at Richs department store for crafts at about $2. yd. Wouldn't use the quality today in a quilt.

sewgarden 07-08-2011 12:57 PM

If the buyer was in
australia it's dirt cheap

sylvia77 07-08-2011 02:01 PM

More than likely, it's discontinued fabric.

Several someone's haven't figured out yet just how much this is actually going to cost them. They are either losing it or have more money than sense in my opinion.

maryp 07-08-2011 02:53 PM

oh my somebody gotta be crazy or stupid to spend allthat forthat fabric

Holice 07-08-2011 02:53 PM

With those prices I have Fort Knox in my basement.

annette1952 07-08-2011 04:06 PM

Wow! To me it isn't worth the price but someone thought it was

doll-lady 07-08-2011 04:54 PM

Is everyone going to put their stash up on ebay next week? lol

MissJMac 07-08-2011 05:51 PM

Lord help me to "zip my lip". I just zoomed in and looked at this fabric. I truly feel sorry for this bidder. A large portion of this fabric (especially the blenders) I have and I got them at Walmart on the $2.00 board. The little angel fabrics I've used a lot in children's Early American quilts, also $2.00 a yd at Walmart.
Friends, please be careful when you bid on ebay fabrics. This person could have logged onto one of our favorite online stores and gotten twice as much fabric for the money by shopping at their "sales"

roseOfsharon 07-08-2011 06:06 PM

It sold for 500.00 and something! It surely does not look worth that much! It would be more fun to go out and hunt down material than buy something you cannot see until you get it.
