vintage quilt scrapes
 

Several weeks ago I submitted what I thought was a good questions directed to the members of the Board..My question: does anyone have any ideas on projects to do with scrapes from old vintage quilts? I have yet found my question posted...what is the time frame on asking questions? I was sent a message indicating my question was redirected to the Main...I don't claim to be a genius on the computer...but: maybe this is too much for this old gal. HELP!

How about using your scraps for a small quilt; table runner; something not too big. I am assuming you don't have a lot of them but if you do, what about a scrap quilt. If you search (goggle) the web, there are a ton of free patterns for scrappy quilts. Also, depending on how much have, maybe you could make them into a design for the center of a larger quilt. Often, due to the size because vintage fabric is that left from garment making, the strips and pieces make great string type quilts. If they are large enough, then any of the old patchwork patterns - Grandmother's Fower Garden" patters are good. You will find that most designs we refer to vintage use small piece patterns due to the size of the left over fabric. However, I have a "vintage" quilt from the late 20's, 30's and possibly into the 40" of large 9 patch blocks surrounded with a triangle to make it square. There are many of the pices that have been pieces to make the fabric large enough for the square or triangle. There was no attempt to match the designs in the print - a plaid triangle may have a corner cut from the same fabric but in a different direction. It definitely was a quilt for utility purposes. I love the quilt becaue of this attempt to save and use every size piece.
