Virtual Quilt Weekend--6/6-6/8

Virtual Quilt Weekend is here again. Dig out those UFOs or those Christmas present ideas and see how much you can get done this weekend! I'm working on 2 quilts (lap size) and fabric boxes. I would love to finish them but don't know how far I will actually get. For those who haven't participated in VQW before, just let us know what you're working on and share pictures if you can. We love pictures and the support and encouragement on here is great!

Let's get stitching!

Sewnoma 06-06-2014 05:29 AM

Woohoo!

I'm at work today, but this weekend I'm hoping to wrap up (or nearly wrap up) work on a set of baby things I'm making for my friend, and also get some work done towards a quilt that needs to be done by August (wedding present).

Wow sewwhat85 that was FAST! I am still at work but hope to finish a border on a scrappy top this weekend. I am spending a few hours at quilting booth at the fair though tomorrow. I also want to swing by the second weekend of an estate sale. i got three boxes of fabric last weekend for $70 including the storage boxes and a June Taylor ruler. They are putting out all new fabric this weekend. I really don't need it!!!!! I will try to be selective.

Raggiemom 06-06-2014 12:34 PM

Looks great!

Well, I finished the 21 fabric boxes today! I'm going to start sandwiching a twin sized quilt tonight so hopefully I can quilt and self-bind it tomorrow.

Maggie_Sue 06-06-2014 04:02 PM

Wow great boxes, what will you do with them?? They make great gifts!

sewwhat85 06-06-2014 05:08 PM

Well just had to rip one block out and sew it back in. It is fixed. Why did'nt somebody tell me I had a block wrong :)

charsuewilson 06-06-2014 06:00 PM

I'll join you part time. I have blocks to sew for a block exchange and a quilt to finish quilting. And I need to start cleaning off the table where the sewing machine is. And several more tables.

Mdegenhart 06-06-2014 07:06 PM

I'll join. I have almost 100 rectangles with triangle corners to do and they are so tedious. They are all I lack to be able to start putting my top together, so y'all can urge me on.

SewExtremeSeams 06-06-2014 08:36 PM

Love your fabric boxes Raggiemom

kaelynangelfoot 06-07-2014 04:10 AM

Wish I could join, my parents are in town this weekend though so no sewing for me! I will be checking back when I can to see all the awesome projects. Beautiful quilt sewwhat!

Yay - I finished up my granddaughter's quilt for her birthday (6/13) this morning. I used the Falling Charms tutorial from MSQC. I FMQ it (my biggest one so far) - it was a challenge and I think it's okay. I also FMQ her name (Aine) in about 7 places throughout the quilt (circled in black). It was fun doing it and glad it's done in time for her birthday!

I have so many charity quilts to get done but here is the one on the top of my Honey Do List. Someone had donated 4 pillow squares and I am making them into a quilt. I have the set of 6 fabric strips all cut. I am disable and I tire easily so I just don't get quilting done as quickly as I once did. One of the gals next to me when I selected the pillow fabric said to me I should just make them into pillows. I hope she will be pleased with what I did with the pillow panels.

Sewwhat85 I love your quilt! I am hoping to continue cleaning upstairs to make the smaller bedroom my quilt room. It's going to be a long process, I am taking my time, and don't have too much room for storage. The larger of the two rooms upstairs right now is my sitting room and I need to clean it and organize it so I can move my bed from the smaller bedroom to the larger one. I am living with my 85-yr old parents, the house is a cape and I have the upstairs. My Mom is a quilter and has her sewing room on the first floor but the computer is there too and there is no room for me.

Raggiemom 06-07-2014 09:47 AM

I didn't even notice!

Some will be Christmas gifts; most are for our church craft sale in September.

Love the fabrics in your fabric boxes but don't you quilt them?

ManiacQuilter2 06-07-2014 11:05 AM

Just finished sewing my 6 strip sets. Now off to ironing.

Raggiemom 06-07-2014 12:13 PM

No, I didn't quilt them. They seem to hold up enough the way they are. I started with 10 inch squares. Actually I just took a layer cake and put 2 squares together and sewed. I've seen the boxes both quilted and not quilted.

Well, I finished the quilt and made a Bow Tuck Tote. I won't be on tomorrow as I'm going to visit some friends. But I will check back in Monday and see how everyone did.

I'm planning the next Virtual Quilt Weekend for the weekend of July 4th. I hope some of you will be able to join me again. I generally get a lot done when I'm "quilting with others"! I think I'll do a Christmas in July theme for myself and work on some Christmas presents.

liese 06-07-2014 01:57 PM

Raggiemom - what kind of batting do you use on them? They are cute and so many things can be done with them. How much will you sell them for at the church bazaar?

GailG 06-07-2014 03:21 PM

I didn't think there would have been any sewing going on here this weekend, but happily I have applied the binding and pinned it in place for the hand stitching. After that I'll be the labels. Everyone is doing great work.

liese 06-07-2014 03:37 PM

I'm happy to say I quilted a baby quilt and have the binding sewn on, pinned and ready to hand stitch! If the weather stays as nice tomorrow as it was today I'm moving my wares outside!

donac 06-07-2014 04:43 PM

I forgot about this. I has been sewing this weekend. Dh went camping and hiking with a friend so I have been here alone with the dog and cat.

Last night I made a bag to test out a pattern for my quilt shop. I dropped it off this morning and picked up some fabrlc to make a friend a baby quilt. She had her first granddaughter on Thursday. After dinner tonight I started it and should finish it tomorrow (yes it is that easy).

Christmas in July sounds great fr next month.

jmoore 06-08-2014 02:47 AM

bummer, sorry I missed virtual weekend... I have been working in the garden as it has finally hit 80 degrees here in Maine and I am behind my regular planting season. Got all my tomatoes and peppers (along with cukes, beans and squash) in the ground yesterday. Feeling accomplished outdoors

Raggiemom 06-08-2014 02:52 AM

liese, I use 100% cotton batting in everything. Some is warm and white, the other was from Joanns but I don't remember the brand name. I just donate them to the church; I don't price them so I'm not sure how they'll ask for them.

tkee 06-08-2014 04:35 AM

I just sewed on the last row of a king sized scrappy star quilt for myself yesterday. I'm recovering from a miserable case of poison oak, and have given up gardening. I'm working on the layout for the backing now.

MargeD 06-08-2014 07:23 AM

WOW, that's a lot of fabric boxes, but they look great and I'm sure will make great gifts.

MargeD 06-08-2014 07:23 AM

I have many projects, new and UFO's that I'm going to try to work on this weekend, we'll se what I can get done.

Taughtby Grandma 06-08-2014 10:25 AM

This quilt is beautiful!! Very nice work.

I didn't know!

I didn't know it was virtual quilt weekend, but I finished this queen size top yesterday. It's "Night & Day" by Eleanor Burns. My nephew requested it. I am using the leftover cuts for a twin size quilt for his son.

puzzler 06-08-2014 11:59 AM

Did I misunderstand the meaning of "virtual quilt"? to me, it's a project that I intend to start, work on, finish but don't seem to get around to. At THAT, I'm a virtual quilter all the time!

Puzzler - so funny that is how my weekends usually go.

I am working on a pieced sawtooth border for a top that I am trying to make bigger. Two sides done. Working on squaring up the rest of the blocks.

GailG 06-08-2014 05:08 PM

Quilt addict, great blocks. I love the color combo.

sewbizgirl 06-08-2014 07:59 PM

Rats... I missed the weekend. I ended up going to see my kids out of town on a last minute whim. No sewing til I get back home tomorrow. Hope to catch you all next time.
