How nice to have Heather poke us into our VQW :)
I am working on my Christmas string project. I have all the triangles finished, trimmed and peeled of paper. Putting the triangles together to form 30 blocks. Trying to get it done or at least a good stopping point before the Bonnie Hunter winter mystery starts in 2 weeks. I guess another more rational person would say before Thanksgiving! I'll take a progress picture once I have the halves made. Right now, Chuck the furnace guy is back. He serviced our furnace in the new house and everything was fine and dandy, but then a module somewhere in guts went out and it took a couple of days to get the part. It hasn't been awful but I'm glad to get it up and going again before it gets any colder. The furnace is in the laundry/bathroom downstairs in my sewing room so I'm staying out of the way. In good news to report, it looks like we have a contractor to build my closets so I can hide my overwhelming boxes of stash I moved, |

At guild sew day yesterday I did most of these 3 placemats from donated Laurel Burch panel, so finished the hand stitching closed now. They will go to Meals on Wheels. May not get much time in sewing room, but depends on how long I have my little GD this evening, and having my Sis visit from Washington for the weekend, lots to look forward to. Will check in for updates and photos of your projects.

I'm planning on finishing the last 6 blocks that I need to put together my Jewel Box Stars top. Once this top comes together I'll pick up another UFO to get finished. Of course, in between piecing, I'll be working on some leader/ender project. And I also plan to get my hubby to finish rewiring my sweet Singer 99.

Break time but here's a picture. All the triangles have been trimmed and paper peeled. They are now in halves, after break it will be time to pin/sew the halves into blocks. I am also prewashing a bunch of fat eighths and a couple of fat quarters for the "neutral" in my Bonnie Hunter project. When we moved we got one of the new generation "impeller" washing machines (no agitator stick in the middle). I was quite happy with the fat eighths not turning into knots -- they were however cut very close to grain and so I had a few threads to cut.
I made a cutting error, or I cut too soon... anyway I had a bunch of small pieces left for the ends of the triangles that were mostly 1/2" short of being usable. It was amazing how as I was dealing with different numbers of bars and different skews and such, I ended up consistently just a little shorter than I wanted. I did cut a few bigger pieces, but mostly used what I had cut as I could, so a lot of them are mostly going to be seams with just a pencil eraser sized dot showing. Oh well, this is my first project in almost 18 months and I chose something that did not require perfection. It has felt really good to be sewing again. |
I have new curtains in my bathroom. Also got my Christmas quilt pin basted. Tomorrow at quilt guild is our annual auction. I have loaded the car with items to get rid of. If I am not too tired I will decide on quilting design tomorrow afternoon

Oh my! This snuck up on me! I am still going crazy, trying to prepare for the craft sale next weekend. But I also signed up for our guild's one day retreat, tomorrow. I think I need a break from my own sewing room. Today, I prepped two bags and half a dozen small scrappy pouches. The hard part is done, so tomorrow, I can experience the joy of finishing the items!! Win win in my opinion! And supper is provided! Yay!!
Sunday will be assessment day--what needs to be finished, etc. Happy sewing everyone! |
cjsews—these VQW weekends motivate me “to get off my butt and sew”!
happylab—have fun fall cleaning! We plan to start that next weekend. Iceblossom—glad you’re sewing again Been a busy day here. Did quite a bit of appliqué. Managed to finish several small projects and a patriotic quilt top. Plus having a great time visiting with people. |
Good day, not much cleaning but did get all but 2 pieces of the baby gift cut out. And have been working on binding while watching the final MASH. Doing some packing for the quick run to Wisconsin so only hand sewing tomorrow. Back at the machine on Sunday.
Happy sewing tomorrow! |
Not a stitch sewn. Booo Hooo :( Hoping today will be better. Pie making for a birthday gift and a couple of loafs of apple bread if I can. Then at least one exchange block and the mental planning for another.
