Mdegenhart, Your pineapple quilt is fantastic! So striking! The colours are just amazing!

cannyquilter 10-11-2014 01:33 AM

I am going to join you all. Everyone sounds very busy.

I was a sewing class yesterday and cut out the fabrics for D4P. We are away for weekend at our caravan but I have a sewing machine so managed to make all the 4 patches and cut and resewed two of them. I have a friend joining us for the rest of weekend so no more sewing till tomorrow evening when I want to start quilting one of my two sandwiched quilts. Will have to take a break to watch Downton then maybe a bit more sewing. I am also taking part in the mystery train but will put off that clue till a bit later in the week.

cannyquilter 10-11-2014 01:38 AM

Hi I am fairly technically challenged but I can manage to post pics from my iPad. After writing post I just click onto the little tree square and it says something like use existing to take photograph and that's what I do. Hope that helps

Can I chime in? I'm excited to sew this weekend because it will be the first dedicated time for quilting I've had since I got my new quilting table (Tailormade Quilter's Vision). I'm almost finished quilting my tumbler (not tumbling blocks) so I hope to get it ready to bind. I also need to finish quilting the border of my roses, roses, roses quilt that has been sitting around for almost a year. And if I can get the jelly roll race 2 quilt's backing ready (not purchased yet) I'll be all caught up with the quilts I'm doing that require machine work. Plus there's always those handwork projects that I keep plugging away at. I'm sure I'll be working on my son's quilt while I watch a race with DH. So many quilts, so little time right?

Sisty88: I just wanted to say WOW how fantastic your quilt is! I love everything about it! Just fabulous!!!
If anyone can tell me how to post from my IPad I'll post pics too but so far I've had no luck with that LoL.

We drove the nearly 600 miles from my father's house yesterday and today have to drive about 150 over to our daughter's. Maybe tomorrow afternoon in between laundry loads. I do have a quilt going.

Gee, I have been missing all the VQWs for several months now. I love all the beautiful work you ladies are doing. I am not doing anything ambitious.

I am making stuff to sell at a craft fair on Nov. 1st, so I really need to get busy. I have made 7 reusable grocery totes so far, and plan to make more, also going to make Christmas gift bags in various sizes. And while I am sewing on one machine and the serger, I have the embroidery machine going making free standing lace Christmas ornaments. It is a rainy weekend here in PA so a good time to sew. I'll throw some laundry in while sewing too.

Cam's gram 10-11-2014 05:10 AM

Yesterday afternoon I was telling DH that I was participating in the VQW. He said "So you're using the cameras on your computers to see each other?" I told him no - so he just shook his head and walked away. He did not get the point of it!

This only works on iPads with a camera if you have the first generation and have to import pictures into your ipad like I do you just can't do it something to do with the way they are stored.

Also quilting buddy if you do have a newer generation try being on the the go advanced and click on the paper clip a new window will pop up follow directions and it should work if you can access it and it just won't attach it's probably to big of a file and need to be scaled down first.

Just finished breakfast. Up too late last night. I've decided to machine quilt the door hanging. Now I have to practice on some scraps and see how I do. It's been awhile and I've never done a lot. Wish me luck, ladies.

I finally finished the place mats for November -- i am doing "Place mat of the month" for my folks and Aunts -- started last month. Hope i'm not breaking a QB rule by posting in the Pictures and here also. Now off to JoAnn's to see if i can use my coupons on anything before they "expire"....then back to work on my sister's quilt.
LOVE the pics so far....Amazing colors !!

DH, DD, and a couple friends came over on Thursday and put up my three new cabinets in my sewing room, so I will be spending the weekend organizing everything that never had a home. One cabinet is a 1970's era thread cabinet, with gold plastic front doors, which has pegs so far apart, that I can put spools between the pegs. Another is a three shelf sliding door cabinet for all those odd shaped things that need a home, and the last one is 4'x4' and divided into 5" cubbyholes (I think it was meant to hold CDs) that I am using to organize trims, doodads, and gewgaws. I might just be able to post pictures after I an done!

Cedar 10-11-2014 09:22 AM

Last night after I got off work I went straight to quilting. I'm trying to get my quilt top done before a baby shower tomorrow. So far I've figured out layout and have almost half the pieces pieced, although I'm working a little oddly because its my first time working with different sized squares

Here it is last night after layout when I just started piecing. My living room looks so tiny! Look at my boyfriend and our monthly houseguest being so good at staying out of my way!

And folks, I think if you not use the tree icon and just use "Go Advanced" as Billi suggests, the double posting of pictures will not be an issue.

I will join since I have projects galore! I'm making what's called monster eye's for halloween! they really are cute and if I knew how to post a picture I would. Wait maybe I can figure this out. I'll go take a picture wish me luck!

SharonTheriault 10-11-2014 10:08 AM

Those are great "turkeys", PenniF!

I've been piddling with table runners. I'll offer this crazy one for sale in one of my craft fairs this Fall.

Sync 10-11-2014 10:54 AM

Your November placemats are adorable.

Karamarie 10-11-2014 11:20 AM

Would love to join in a virtual quilting weekend but am giving daughter and hubby a chance for a 4-day get away so I offered to watch their 4 children -- ages 2 to 10 so needless to say my house now looks and feels like a "crazy quilt". I'M not complaining just saying. Anyway you all enjoy and get lots done and enjoy! Thank God for nap time.

MargeD 10-11-2014 11:40 AM

If my shoulder holds up, I'm hoping to finish piecing a large, almost door size snow lady and penguin quilt that I started last year and didn't finish. I may have to cut more pieces as some are missing in action, no biggee. Then I have 3 large table runners, a small wall hanging and the first snow lady and penguin quilt which I finished last year but never sandwiched to quilt. Otherwise, I'm hoping to sandwich 3 tree skirts, so I can start quilting them. I should add that I am going to a craft fair Nov. 15, so I'm hoping to make some progress this weekend, will let you know, but my DH is watching the Patriot's football game tomorrow afternoon, so I won't be watching much TV as he takes over the living room, so that will take up almost all afternoon with the pre-game, the game and the post-game talk shows.

SewExtremeSeams 10-11-2014 12:58 PM

Wow, M, great job on your pineapple quilt!

Raggiemom 10-11-2014 01:07 PM

Sisty88, love your Hummer Storm quilt. It looks like an interesting pattern to try.

Jan in VA, sorry you're not able to quilt with us but glad you're joining us anyway.

Skyangel, pretty girly quilt.

joe'smom, love the flannel sashed quilt.

Mdgenhart, LOVE your pineapple quilt. Are they hard to do?

Cam's gram, my husband just shakes his head too!

PenniF, cute placemats.

SouthPStitches 10-11-2014 01:08 PM

Hi Everyone, I'm joining you for the first time in many, many months. I am working on a quilt top called Christmas Ribbons. I saw a lovely one featured here some time ago and ordered the downloadable pattern. Instead of using Christmas fabric scraps, I am using fall colors. Quite honestly, the first 3/4's of piecing the quilt I found terribly boring. Now that the units are being sewn together, am enjoying seeing the pattern finally emerge and the colors come together. Hope to have the entire top sewn together no later than Monday evening.

Taughtby Grandma 10-11-2014 01:09 PM

I have a twin size Sun Bonnet Sue quilt for a grat niece to get quilted and another twin size eagle quilt top to finish.

Those turkey placemats are so cute!

I would like to join late, as I have finally started piecing a quilt top for a lap quilt that I want to donate to a nursing home or assisted living center. Since I just rescued my mom from a short stay in a nursing home and saw things I wish I hadn't, I want to start "giving back" - even though I am not necessarily great at this.

I will post the first row I have made, and hope to do more tomorrow if my back holds up (grin).
I cut out the images and appliqued them to the white blocks. Like I said, a beginner at work - ha ha.

The bad thing about the turkeys and snowflakes is....it means winter's coming!!!!

The Grands started a project last summer--http://www.u-createcrafts.com/2011/08/creative-guest-watermark-tee-by-sweet.html. Long story short after a long search for blue glue they are in the dyeing process.

And then there are my 10 pillowcase dresses, 3 are made from fabric. I'm using the armhole cutouts of the larger ones for pockets on the smaller ones. Instead of turning the 2 pocket pieces I've been top stitching the raw edges down for a frayed look sewing the pocket down 2 times.

Raggiemom 10-11-2014 03:13 PM

Rennie, looks like it will be a very pretty quilt. oksewglad, the dresses look great and are for a wonderful cause.

I'm done for day. Didn't get as much time in sewing room as would have liked. Washing machine (4 years old!) decided to die last night so we spent part of day researching and deciding which one to buy. New machine should arrive next Friday. But I did get the quilt top pieced, the binding is made, and I picked out backing. After church tomorrow, I'll sandwich and quilt.

I'm enjoying quilting with all of you. I see there are some from the UK this time, Welcome!

Cedar 10-11-2014 03:49 PM

Todays update: Made it home from the baby shower this afternoon. I got alot more pieced but still have quite a ways to go. It's looking good enough that we were able to bring her photos and listen to comments like "wow that looks like alot of work" and het excitedly naming animals she spotted in the fabrics, so its really nice to know this will be a well appreciated quilt.

I will get this top pieced tonight. The baby is due on the 20th!

sewbizgirl, that table runner is fascinating! It looks quite exotic, and I love the orange bits in the middle. It's a wonderful combination of textures and colors.

Rennie, that will be a lovely lap quilt.

Today I did a bit of basting, sewed and pressed another group of seams on the flannel quilt, cut another fabric for my new project and worked on machine quilting my 2nd fmq learning quilt. Tonight I plan on a session of hand quilting, and I hope to squeeze in some hand piecing on the couch.

Here is a photo of my 3rd fmq learning quilt set up for basting using the Sharon Schamber basting method. Thank you Sharon Schamber!

Raggiemom, the pineapple quilt was dead easy. Took a class using Creative Grid's Pineapple Trim ruler/tool. It squares the block up after every round. Very cool, and these quilts are so classic I'll use it again, so no wasteful "one time" ruler.

judy363905 10-11-2014 08:45 PM

Everyone has been busy, as have I worked 6-1/2 hours today quilting a lap quilt I took a class to make in 2007. Will not finished the quilting, but making headway. Will post photo tomorrow. Loved seeing everyone photos.
Good night :)

Got one baby quilt binding finished and part of the second one. I also have the flannel FQ folded and pressed to stitch into burp cloths. Good progress for me, considering DH and I were gone all afternoon doing errands.

Cedar, I love all those wild life fabrics! What a great idea for a quilt.

tucsonquilter 10-12-2014 04:46 AM

Love all the pictures! I am making a king size Christmas hexie quilt and I just have one more row to sew on the scrappy part and then off to the white borders that will hang over the edge of the bed. I will post a pic as soon as the sun comes up here. Love this virtual stuff!

No quilting today, but I found out it's a friend's birthday today, so have made her a thread catcher/pincushion. I've been wanting one of these for my sewing room for ages, so I made one for myself too!

Rennie 10-12-2014 07:16 AM

Sisty88, I bought the pattern several years ago and "tried" to make it - but the directions were not right (or I could not understand them correctly. What pattern did you use, or did you just make it up as you went?
