Okay, I decided not to go to the car show today. Too far to drive thru too much traffic. I'll be working on the dog quilt I started pp'ing better than 10 years ago. It was the 2nd quilt I'd made. Boy, did i go some bad work. :D I decided to fix as many blocks as I could and put it together for a snuggle quilt for the dogs and I. I'll post pics after I go upstairs.

Beautiful quilts everyone!

Macybaby 10-07-2017 08:33 AM

Kelly - love the colors on that sunshine quilt.

Looking at Battle Axe's quilt makes me want to put what I'm working on aside and work on a sampler. My first real quilt was a brown tone sampler. It was king size and hand quilted. It was for my bed, but no idea what happened to it over the years. DH and I had only been married a couple of years at that time. I made it while living with my parents while he was in Basic Training.

30+ years later after my Mom passed, my siblings found a candy box with my name on it. Inside was the patterns I'd designed and used for the blocks! I did not know my Mom had saved it - and now I have it so plan on making another some day (but this won't be hand quilted).

Yesterday I got the two Cottage Romance floppies done.

Baby size.

And this AM started working on the Snake River quilt.

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...ps7qgeeehf.jpg

After breakfast I figured I should do something about the two buckets of apples - got them pealed and ringed and 50 of them into the dehydrator.

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...psdniqp6wp.jpg

Had enough left for a batch of apple crisp,

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...pscrrpa4lb.jpg

so DH won't feel I'm ignoring him too much while I spend the rest of the weekend sewing!

Macybaby 10-07-2017 08:39 AM

DD (30 yr old) just sent her Dad a text picture -she's got a silly grin and is holder her left hand up to her face. DH did not understand until I held my left hand up to my face - then he figured it out LOL!!

We've been expecting this, they'd picked out the ring a while ago but he had not officially asked yet. DD's kind of old fashioned and wanted him to ask her Dad for her hand - which he did a few days ago. DH asked my father for my hand (but I was only 17) and DD always thought that was romantic.

Oh my! Everyone is has so much going on, I don't know where to start! Macybaby- already a finish and another quilt being worked on! your energy amazes me! and I would like a piece of that apple crisp if you could send me a virtual slice. Sewbizgirl- very cool idea to do a "key" on the back of your quilt--and your joins look fantastic, you can't tell that it's QAYG--they look like pieced sashing! Tallchick- that is spectacular! I love the combination of cool grays, blue, black and white. Midwife- very nice modern quilt the meander quilting provides just the right contrast with the hard edges and sharp corners of the squares and rectangles. Battle Axe- I can see why you were impatient to see it put together- neat design! Kelly- I like those bright colors, very cheery, nice idea to do something for hurricane relief! Sync- as always, your appliqué and quilting are beautifully done-- and that penguin is going to be so cute. And Zozee- great start on your Log cabin--looking forward to seeing everyone's progress.

No sewing for me yesterday as I was at the Fredericksburg Sewing Expo all day-what a treat, seeing (and playing with) all the neat machines, and sit down quilters! There were some incredible art quilts as well which we weren't allowed to photograph. All in all a fun day and I came home with lots of good information on machines. Many thanks to Innov8R for the ticket!

tallchick 10-07-2017 10:11 AM

Wow, look at all the beautiful projects everyone is working on!

Macybaby- love, love, your tops, and your stash is amazing!

NZ quilter- Trip is on my bucket list and I can’t wait to see yours, I love the colors you chose as they are similar to the ones I want to use for mine, so please share when you’re done.

Midwife- I love how soothing and pretty your quilt is, is there a pattern for it? Love your quilting too!

Sewbiz Girl -I love your sampler and colorway.

Zozee- Your log cabin is going to be so pretty when your done, it’s one of my favorite quilts to make and I can’t to see when your done!

Battle Axe - love the colors you chose are they a recent line or older? The pattern for my quilt is called Asteria by Tiffany Hayes. It’s actually a Craftsy class called 4 Fabrics one amazing quilt, you can buy the pattern on her website too. IMHO you don’t need her specialized ruler to do the quilt, I only used mine a few times, and I will make it again.

Kelly Y- I love the colors you chose, what size will it be when your done? I really think the textures in the yellow really make it stand out, can’t wait I see it when your done!

sewbizgirl 10-07-2017 10:20 AM

Rob, thank you for the nice compliments on my QAYG sashing. If I get it right, that sashing lays flat. If I get it wrong, it ends up heaped up in a little speed bump. Trying to avoid any speed bumps... :D I posted a tute on joining that way in the tutes section, if you haven't seen it:

https://www.quiltingboard.com/tutori...l-t283918.html Loads of pictures to make it easy to follow.

sewbizgirl 10-07-2017 10:24 AM

Cathy, two pretty quilt tops and another started! Love the colors in those first two.

The apple look great too. Especially the cobbler! Yeah, your hubby can hardly complain when you have left him fresh cobbler to survive on while you sew. :D

Big congrats on your daughter's engagement!

Jo Anne B. 10-07-2017 10:27 AM

Started way too early this A.M. sample/experiment sewing with some new stencils, will be nice to know which ones will be user friendly, moved on to hopefully finishing a Christmas centerpiece getting the binding made and on, ready to hand sew which was my goal to do while my favorite college football team plays and airs on TV. Go Hawks!!
I used a Moda "Holiday Medley" Kansas Troubles charm pack, a simple patchwork top and a Moda Christmas Alphabet panel for backing, the back is cuter than the front. Lol!

NZquilter 10-07-2017 10:44 AM

Congratulations on your daughter's engagement, Cathy!! Such happy news!!

You are all so busy! Wow, Cathy how do you have the energy to bake and sew two entire tops at the same time!

Sewbizgirl, I love your friendship quilt and your idea for a label. So creative! What pen did you use to draw it?

Such cheerful colors, Kelly Y. That quilt will surely make someone happy.

Battle axe, I love how your BOW is going! My first quilt was a lap size sampler. I want to make another one day, but probably do a queen size this time.

I haven't been able to sew much today, except I did manage to find time to mark another two rows of baptist fan quilting design on my quilt and quilt one row.

Battle Axe 10-07-2017 11:23 AM

Thanks for the kind compliments. This brown sampler is from "Better by the Dozen" by Susan Teegarden Dissmore. It only has 12 blocks and I wanted to put it in a setting like the Rest and Refreshing BOW was by Debbie Thompson McInnis. So I thought I was real smart and took one block and tried to cross the busy highway with it. I will have to go back to Better by the Dozen and just make 5 more blocks using different fabric.

These colors are not a line, although I ususally just use one line. These are just things I liked at the LQS. (Stores) I support them all.

That is so cool that your mom kept those patterns. Lucky DH getting that whole apple crisp, now I want one.

My neighbor and I inventoried the dahlias (I had 75 in the plot that I grow for show.) Then she invited me to eat Chineses in payback for fixing her sewing machine. All of that activity required a nap.

Everyone's projects look awesome and those apples look delicious.

I've been in just didn't remember to post yesterday. Spent most of the day finishing the quilting and making the binding for Noah's quilt, which I think I was working on last VQW. Going to be spending the rest of the day sewing down the binding, I like the look of hand stitched, just takes way longer! About 1/2 way around it so should finish it today.

There is both hand and machine quilting on this one, I need to give it to him tomorrow on his birthday. Wish me few distractions with the rest of the day. Had to go to the Guitar shop and the hardware store with the DH this morning:p. Will squeeze in laundry and checking on the peppers I'm drying. Will post picture of the back when finished.

Thank you. Just looked at the pen and it says "Permawriter II". After I write on the label, I then press the ink as hot as my iron will go, just short of scorching the fabric! That's supposed to set the ink so it won't wash out. Hope so.

Dedemac, so funny that you are giving a star wars quilt for a birthday gift tomorrow. My son in law's birthday is today, and I've sent him a Star Wars quilt that I made. His features storm troopers, his favorites. He hasn't opened it yet because they are having a yard sale today, but any time now I'm expecting the phone call! He's a Star Wars nut.

Some progress for me today. First, the most amazing part - I can see the entire top of my cutting table!! It's been ages since it's been this clean. Not sure how long it will last, but sure feels good right now. Notice how the photo is carefully framed to avoid showing the rest of the room. That pile in the corner of the cutting table is a UFO I need to finish - but it requires the whole design wall, and there are currently 2 other projects hogging that space. That's the next goal for this weekend - clear off the design wall by finishing those 2 tops.

Also finished binding a UFO. I won these blocks in a block of the month draw at guild a year (or 2?) ago. Put them together earlier this year, and now it is finally bound. This will be donated to Victoria's Quilts, once I show it off at guild.

Will have to get in on the next quilting weekend in November. It is almost 5 pm on the 7th and I just saw the notice. I like what is going on

Those Star Wars quilts are very cool Dedmac and Sewbizgirl! Sewbiz- thanks for posting that tute, I'm going to take a look and see if I can get the hang of doing it your way. Both times I tried using the binding strips for QAYG the fronts looked okay, but the backs looked awful.

Kristakatz- I'm jealous that you can see your cutting table, I have two and neither is currently visible (well, bits and pieces of each can be glimpsed through the clutter, but you know what I mean). I like that quilt, nice modern feel with the gray background and those bright colored rectangles floating on it. the scrappy binding is a nice touch too.

Here's a glimpse of the art quilt that I've been working on today. The bottom fabric is one I dyed/stained with alcohol inks. It's been basted to a tear away stabilizer - hence the white basting stitches. The pieces that are tacked to it are batting that I painted with very thin acrylic paint. Right now they're just tacked with a little Elmer's school glue, they will be machine couched or hand stitched down to the fabric (depending on whether they fit under my couching foot)-- and maybe some more will be added. I'm hoping to get most of that done tomorrow morning so I can tear away the stabilizer. Then the whole piece will be sandwiched and quilted and possibly have some bling added to contrast with the dulled batting.

I'm also trying to get enough of my studio cleaned up to add the first 6 days of October to my temperature quilt. and I need to figure out which UFO I am going to finish this month.

Rob

I had a great day quilting with friends. I finished two more Kids Komforts quilt tops. They were just 6 1/2 inch I Spy squares stitched together. I took the project i was working on last month (Fireworks quilt pattern) but I just wasn't feeling like working on it! Tomorrow I'm headed north to visit some friends so won't be on the computer. I'll check back in Monday night. Hope everyone has a terrific productive Sunday and see everyone next month :)

I'm working on another bargello. We need a new quilt that will fit our king size bed we just got. Won't have it done before the first snow fall, but I am working on it.

BonnieI 10-07-2017 04:08 PM

What a great quilt! Do you know what the name of the pattern is?

Wow, everyone certainly has been busy today. Rob, very interesting, can't wait to see that art quilt completed. Most of the day I have been running errands with the hubby but I did manage some sewing time. I added a little more quilting to hubby's quilt and finished sewing 2 blocks for that penguin baby quilt. Right now, the Nascar race is about to start so I'll be moving to my comfy spot on the sofa and grab some hand sewing to do. Now to decide which basket to pick.

Not very productive here. Did get the quilt loaded and 2 stars echo quilted. This was a challenge because it's ruler work and I do very little ruler work. Took my time and they look pretty good.

jmoore 10-08-2017 03:41 AM

Yes, Cathy...congratulations on the engagement of your DD.

Krista, I’m sure you’re delighted with the clean surface of your cutting board. It feels good to have an uncluttered space to work.

Sync, I hope you will post pictures of your Penguin quilt. Who is the pattern designer? I may need to add it to my children’s library.

Everyone's projects are so nice. There are some very talented quilters on here. You all inspire me to keep practicing and try new patterns.

Macybaby 10-08-2017 05:38 AM

quiltnmom - love the way those blocks are turning out!

Boston -those look really fun to make.

I'm still working on the Snake River blocks. I expect I will be for some time.

I've got the light square sewn on to the darks, and put together the four corners to see what it will look like.

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...psvshqpzr0.jpg

Next step will be to sew the red squares to the lights for the other corner of the block. There are 100 like this, and then 40 blocks for the border.

Love your pretty quilt! Can you share the name or link for the pattern? I have been in search for a pattern for my son. I would be embroidering golf designs inside the framed squares. He would love the modern look of this one. Thanks for sharing the picture.

Love all the pictures, I am working on getting my Rail fence leader/ender blocks put together into a small quilt, will take a picture later this morning. (It is our Thanksgiving weekend here in Canada so had a yummy dinner last night at DDs )

Kelly - That is a neat looking block you are working on, some kind of a log cabin variation? Did you come up with the pattern or does it have a name? Thanks.

It is indeed a log cabin variation I came up with. I call it asymmetric log cabin. It's pieced the same way as a standard log cabin, but with 1 1/2in strips on the pink side and 2 1/2in strips on the yellow side.

Doggramma 10-08-2017 08:33 AM

I'm working on a kit that I got at Angela Walters shop. The pattern is Frequency. It uses templates and I'm having a hard time with it. It's wedge units with a bunch of points coming together in the middle and it looks like it's not going to be flat.

jmoore, the penguin quilt is an old Quiltmaker pattern. The designer is Nancy Brown. Sorry, I don't remember what issue it appeared in.

Sunday is another race day so I'm heading for my comfy spot on the sofa and picking up one of my hand projects to work on. Later I hope to get to my sewing machine to work on the baby quilt.
