some pictures

The "it's still not working" compass star -

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...pscqymj2xe.jpg

So I switched to sewing some of these together. I think I'll do 100 and call it good for today. There are 2,000 strips of five, and they get sewing together into 5x5 blocks.

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...psbb4oebt1.jpg

And the long arm - all leveled up and ready. I'm going to put some "i don't really care about" floppies on first.

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...pswtbjf0wx.jpg

This is a stack of floppies ready to be quilted. Several will end up cabinet covers, and it's about time I got them on cabinets!

Though Tikka may need to find another place to nap for a while.

Cathy, Love your kitty! That's so where mine would be if I had that set up. Since I'm at the keyboard, that's where she is, either sitting on my arm or walking on the keys. Hunger drove me out of the sewing room, not to mention I'm about cross-eyed. It's hard to quit when I'm making such progress. I love your compass so far. Don't give up!

LOVE your frog quilt!!

Macybaby - I am drooling over the long arm, what type of machine is in the background of the last picture? The nice round top wood case, is it a electric or hand crank?

I have not gotten as much sewing as I wanted done but have done some. I did get the cherry wine bottled yesterday and have the glass room cleaned so I can start the stained glass project. Last night we ended up having a drive-in in our yard, we set up a screen by our fire pit and hooked up the projector, popped some popcorn sat in lawn chairs and watched Godzilla with Matthew Broderick. Was a nice evening, not to hot and very few bugs. Watching independence day right now with DH and working on the GFG. Love all the pictures!

Macybaby 07-04-2015 02:52 PM

dedemac, I had to look at the picture, what shows up in the background depends on what angle I took the picture from. Besides the long-arm, there are 25 sewing machines in that room.

The one under the bentwood case is a Singer 128 with LaVencedora decals. It's from the 20's and is electric and has a knee lever control.

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...pse9155609.jpg

I've been working on trimming up my 3" stars and was going to try making some 1/4" bias tape for a stained glass quilt project - and discovered I don't have the clover bias maker that is designed to be used with the fusable tape. I can use it anyway though. I came downstairs to find the black fabric I bought for the project.

I took a break earlier and made raspberry shortcake for DH - don't want him to get to feeling neglected while I'm spending the weekend sewing.

I need a break...I spent most of afternoon trying to figure out Rectangle Pinwheel. I am beginning a new quilt pattern and thought it best to make a practice unit as I need 20 for the quilt. I first tried drawing a line corner to corner and then sewing 1/4 inch on either side (like a 1/2 square triangle). Problem this sure did not work... Had to cut corner to corner and then sew and then trim to 2-1/2 x 3-1/2" .. Then sew four units together AB and ARBR. They end up 4-1/2 x 6-1/2 units. Hard to match the inside points.

Just wondering if there is an easier way?? Think this is the hardest part of the quilt top. Plan to make 2 per day and work on other project. :)

Judy: Here is a tutorial on larger rectangles but maybe it will give you another idea:

100 Days-week of shapes- tutorial.

Sorry but I don't know how to link it. I just looked up half rectangle triangles.

I finished the following blocks today: one for Judy's Mystery Train # 9, HST Challenge block, 1/2" squares, and selected 1/2" squares for another block. I also organized more strips from the donation.

I hope everyone had a safe and fun 4th.

I got 9 blocks done today and have 16 to go for my mom's quilt. I didn't stay at it as diligently as I should have today. Hopefully tomorrow I'll feel more inspired to sew.

Whoooo... got a lot done today. Finished my mini quilt for swapping, and then I got two crib quilts for charity quilted and bound, one for a girl, and one for a boy. These are for Sadie's Dream for a Cure... I used a nice thick flannel in the centers, instead of batting. I love the weight and drape! My camera wouldn't flash consistently so some of my pics are yellowed.

More tomorrow...

cjaneky 07-05-2015 03:38 AM

Yesterday proved to be a winner...got a lot of quilting done on one of the UFO's..who knows maybe i'll get the rest of the detail work done today....can't believe i'm finally making some headway into some of my projects. Trying to restore a house out of state and get it ready to move into while packing up this one. Trying to sew in the middle of all this mess has been just another reason this mess doesn't seem to be going anywhere ....but boy did it feel good to have a day to myself...hope it was as good for everyone else as it was for me.

Sisty88 07-05-2015 04:08 AM

Just got the bargello binding finished, so it's now in the washing machine getting nice and wrinkly :-) I had to really hurry with the binding as my mum texted me this morning to say they're making their way home (due to the shingles) and should be here tomorrow. I'm just hoping it'll dry in time! I had intended to hang it outside because we've had such beautiful weather lately, but of course, today it is raining! I really want to be able to have it on my parents bed by the time they get home, as I hope it will cheer my poor mum up a bit!

Raggiemom 07-05-2015 04:12 AM

Looks like people are getting a lot done. Love the bargello and the Storm at Sea quilts. I'm planning to make a SAS for our 25th anniversary. We just celebrated our 22nd so should have enough time :) I'm off to church in a few minutes then we're car shopping this afternoon so won't get into sewing room until after supper probably :( Not what I had planned for this afternoon! Will check back in later to see how everyone is doing.

joyce888 07-05-2015 04:20 AM

I'm finishing a Trade Winds pattern from Hoffman's free patterns. I got the top complete with the first border on and noticed I had turned one of the blocks in the center wrong. SO Friday night I spent ripping it out (had to be very careful because its bias edges) and turning it right. I was surprised it only took about an hour to do. Saturday I added the last border, made the back, and made the binding. Today I will load it on the LA and prepare to quilt Monday.

Twisted Quilter 07-05-2015 04:31 AM

Still working with my 1.5" squares. I've made 32, 4 x 4" squares so far. Not sure what pattern I'll use but they sure are cute!

applique 07-05-2015 04:58 AM

Got a few egg potholders ready for binding and some owl potholders ready to turn. Then I got to play with prepping for the next applique which will be a market basket with veggies and flowers. Have to work today cutting more fabric and .the row by row for the shop needs to be broken down. Right now it is a pp (or pieced) background with applique. I need to also show it as all applique and all piecing. Maybe I can get that done tonight! Love all the great makes going on here, so much progress!

We need a picture!

I was fairly productive yesterday, but decided I needed to get out of the house. Joined the rest of San Antonio to watch the fireworks, then sat in log jammed traffic for an hour and a half. Meeting a friend for an afternoon of sewing together, so I think I'll go ride this morning - blow out some mental cobwebs.

Rebecca_S 07-05-2015 06:23 AM

I love everyone's pictures! I was able to finish up all my blocks and sashings and am deciding if I want to start assembling my burgoyne surrounded top or do something else for the day. If I start assembling I will have to keep going until the rows are all complete since my kitties are quite active and I don't have a good place to do layouts besides the floor. No doors to shut!

Macybaby 07-05-2015 07:10 AM

Got a small wall hanging loaded on the frame. Going to use yellow thread and see how that work.

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...ps3efr7w9x.jpg

And yes - the cat is back in her spot, though she moved down a bit. We'll see if she sticks around once I start sewing, though she's a rather "different" cat, so I expect it won't bother her at all.

I have that same panel and the coordinating fabrics! Called Ribbit-ing! Thought it looked familiar! I LOVE FROGS! I bought all this a couple of years ago at my LQS, all she had was the picture, the panel and some of the fabs, and I bought another purple that matched it. It is all bagged up together in my closed, forgot about it til I saw your pics! You did a great job on yours, love it!

That is gorgeous all of our old singers are treadles. I have a Hexagon in a round top but it does not have a table. Love sewing with machines that are set into tables.

Connie,

Thank you so very much...I found the link and figured out that I needed to add 1/2 in to finished size of rectangle. (Second time ..:) but I am learning). This will work great for my 20 blocks of 4 units each. I only had a slight trim after joining the units to make the 4-1/2 x 6-1/2 block. :)

I love the beautiful Christmas trees!

Macybaby 07-05-2015 10:11 AM

Those trees are really nice! (but I have to tell myself, NO NEW IDEAS) will need to save it for my "someday" file.

Got all started with the long arm, and it broke the thread and the timing was off. DH did some searching and watched a few videos, and got it fixed. The problem was the needle bar had slipped up a bit, probably with all the moving around we did getting the prostitcher installed - or who knows . . . He's done a lot of work with my vintage machines, so this wasn't a big deal once he got the info he needed.

Finally back in business - I'm doing a sort of 4 -leaf clover pattern, just all over the field.

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...pse87igwa7.jpg

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...pscocx1vok.jpg

The cat - she found a better place to rest.

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...psxo3iw4lx.jpg

Now I have to run up town to get some groceries - the price of fixing my long arm is a batch of rice crispy treats.

Love all the pictures, I took a break from the GFG to do a little hand work on the Craftsy BOM with Jinny Beyer, I am trying to do as much by hand as possible. I still have not started the applique but I think I only have one more block to get together and I am caught up to June. Here is a pic of how it is coming, I plan on redoing the first block to give it more color. I still have to put the paper piece to the top of one of the blocks. I've been doing all hand sewing this weekend.

Time to get back to the GFG need to make more diamonds so I can attach the next flower. This quilt is one my DH's Grandmother started, I am just adding the black and green to make it a memory GFG only 13 more flowers to add.

Card Trick

I finished this card trick yesterday. I added a 4" gold border and backed it with fleece. Now on to the next project.

Sisty this bargello is beautiful!!

Taughtby Grandma 07-05-2015 11:56 AM

Raggiemom, your quilt is "toadally" cute!!

Macybaby 07-05-2015 12:02 PM

Dedemac - I've got a GFG that my Mom started for one of my sisters (30 years ago) that I've been occasionally working on. it needed 12 more flowers, so I used Mom's template and dug out retro looking fabric and got them sewing together - only to find my Mom was not very good with her 1/4" seam and all my blocks are too large compared to hers LOL!!

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...ps1042000b.jpg

So I dug out more fabric and started over. I cut a smaller template - and I'm paying way more attention and checking the size of each round. I'm learning what a challenge it is to finish up someone else's projects. My mom had a lot of quilt related UFO's, as she did if for several years and then took up crocheting, and never went back to making quilts. No one else in the family quilts, so I "inherited" it all.

She also had a flower basket quilt - and according to her notebook, I beleive it was suppose to be for her Mother (who passed away in 1994) so I'll keep this one for myself. I think I want to quilt flowers in the baskets -

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...ps779222f0.jpg

Macybaby 07-05-2015 12:06 PM

I forgot to add - I totally LOVE that card trick quilt! I've got some charm squares and matching fairy frost, and this pattern would be perfect for them!

Now it's time for me to get back to the long arm.

petthefabric 07-05-2015 12:37 PM

Just checking in. Now to sewing those blocks together for the log cabin.

Wow great to see everyone's photos. Beautiful Craftsy baskets. Card trick and the green & white quilt wow good work on all. I am closing up my sew room for this weekend.. With help from Retiredschoolteacher Connie, and making practice blocks I am in my way. Good thing when I realized the whole quilt if made up with half rectangles. Made one block and two rectangle pinwheels Large Block is 12 x 18 finished
And there are twelve (two of each color) happy I worked through my problems. :)

Great photos, everyone... sorry I haven't commented on every one, but I see them... and LOVE them. We have some talented quilters here.

I didn't get to sew at all today. Got a bad case of poison ivy (off my dog's fur) and had to take benedryl today for it. I slept all day from the bennie! Yuck. Wanted to sew...

ontheriver 07-05-2015 05:34 PM

Well, started out planning to sew, looked around the room and decided it needed cleaning and organizing so I spent all day rearranging and cleaning my sewing room. Tomorrow will start making a mess again.

I am checking in late. I had to stop sewing to cheer for the USA in the Women's World Cup. Great game!

I got 20 of the 25 blocks I need for my mother's quilt done in the last two days. Hopefully, I can finish the rest in the next couple of days and assemble the top. I also cut and attached the binding to another quilt so I just have to hand sew it and it's done. It was a successful VQW for me - I hope everyone else accomplished a lot too.
