Hi, I'm back. If you ever get a chance to go to a Deb Strain talk - go! She is a fabric designer for Moda and designs lots of other things too like cards, calendars, home decor etc. She hand draws and paints every design in several colorways when she does a line of fabric - no computer assisted drawing. Even the prints with handwriting in the background, she has done it by hand!
I bought a few pieces of fabric from her and a few pieces more from the shop that hosted the event.
Great way to spend the day. Then came home and worked in one of the flower beds for a bit.
So no sewing yet today LOL

sewbizgirl 04-16-2016 01:17 PM

That sounds awesome, QV... I love her designs and would have loved getting to see her in person. What a great opportunity!

Macybaby 04-16-2016 03:08 PM

Here is the 365 challenge center, and the blocks for the rest of April to get caught up. I read that she's going to repeat it next year, and that is one reason she's only leaving the patterns up for 3 months.

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...psorbze69f.jpg

Then I switched gears and pulled out the Embroidery machine to work on some machine applique blocks that have been in a tote for over a year. I actually moved my Juki out of the way and put the Pfaff in it's place. I figure this way I'll be more likely to stick with it until I have the satin stitching done.

Wow Macybaby, I have been looking at the 365 challenge for a while. I haven't started it yet, but I would love to do it.
I love your colors so far.

donac 04-16-2016 03:19 PM

I spent some time this morning cutting squares for son's wedding quilt. The squares are getting cornered to white squares so people can sign them at the wedding. The colors are rainbow colors since the bride loves Wizard of Oz.

Then I spent some time hand quilting my niece's wedding quilt.

Nice work everyone

sewbizgirl 04-16-2016 03:43 PM

Your work is gorgeous, Macybaby.

I went to my quilt group (not officially a guild...) today and we worked on Christmas quilts to donate to hospital patients this December. I did a D9P. Will show that and an I Spy top I put together today as soon as I finish up and snap some pix.

Love seeing everyone's work.

Finally got brave enough to try a Double Wedding Ring. Been telling myself it's out of my reach, so I just jumped in and now it's about half way done. My corners aren't perfectly matched and it looks kind of rough because I just put it on the bed to get a picture, but am learning as I go.

thimblebug6000 04-16-2016 04:26 PM

I have been working away on and off this weekend on quilting projects... I posted a comfort quilt in pictures that I just finished today..... will try to check back in tomorrow. Enjoy seeing everyone's projects, thanks for taking the time to post pictures.

Nice DWR, Jeanie! I'm intimidated by that pattern, too. Glad you conquered it.

Here are my tops finished today. The first is the Christmas top for charity, and the second is an I Spy top for a customer who will quilt it herself.

Nice work sewbizgirl, TaughtbyGrandma, and macybaby! I managed to get the setting triangles on my Cathedral Stars but I am done for the day.

gramajo 04-16-2016 05:42 PM

Looks great. Love your colors.

gramajo 04-16-2016 05:48 PM

Macybaby, I love the colors for the center of your 365 Challenge.

quiltingshorttimer 04-16-2016 06:54 PM

I'm in--yesterday I got all the t-shirts (26)cut and stablized for my Sis's g-son's grad quilt. Still some question on where he's going to college so I'm stalling on the rest of it. And searched my sewing studio for the fabric that I used on a quilt that is waiting to be quilted and I just now noticed a mistake in the exact middle of the quilt! Still can't find the fabric so the search is still on. But got a customer quilt on the frame and finished today. Tomorrow I'll either start getting fabric cut for projects I'm taking to quilt retreat in 2 weeks or get back onto working on that pesky Storm at Sea quilt!

gramajo 04-16-2016 07:12 PM

I only quilted 1 1/2 15" blocks--no where near as much as I wanted to. I spent the afternoon outside, enjoying hearing the birds, smelling newly mown grass, admiring my crocus and daffodils and reading an absorbing book. It was such a nice day I didn't want to be inside. Tomorrow should be more of the same, so may not get much done tomorrow either.

Everyone's stuff looks so neat!

I finished the last 6 blocks for my color study that I have been working on the past few months. I am contemplating borders and might get the rows sewed together this weekend, not sure since we have other plans for today. However, Monday is a holiday here (Marathon Monday/Patriot's day) so I will get some sewing done then.

sewbizgirl 04-17-2016 05:02 AM

Very cool quilt, Rebecca_S!

judi43 04-17-2016 05:27 AM

Hi, my taxes are finished (thank goodness) so I'm off to my sewing barn to work on Ellie the Elephant, hope to get her all ironed down today & start zig zagging her. Will post a picture when she's finished.

Macybaby 04-17-2016 06:23 AM

Rebecca - love that pattern!

I've been up since 5 getting some stitching in. I'm going to head out to the shed later and work on quilting.

thimblebug6000 04-17-2016 06:39 AM

Rebecca S. I really like your quilt, those little black triangles really make the colours pop!

I didn't get as much done yesterday as I had hoped. but my crayon challenge top is quilted, plus 2 charity quilts. Today I loaded a new quilt on the longarm, and it's about 1/2 done now, so I should get it finished today (so I can get back to customer quilts tomorrow) and maybe I'll get some blocks made for my Winding Ways quilt top.
This is my crayon challenge top - colour was "Mauvelous".

This Virtual Quilting Weekend worked out for me! First picture is a king size quilt I quilted this weekend and it's ready for binding. I made a throw last year with this pattern and material and liked it so well made this quilt for what is now a guest room. 120x100 - biggest quilt I've done on my longarm to date. Second picture is queen size scrap quilt top from homespuns I finished this weekend. Also made the back for it. Last picture is up close of the scrap quilt of some of the squares.

retiredteacher09 04-17-2016 09:54 AM

Thanks for all of the pictures and information on projects that are keeping you busy this weekend! I love reading through everything!

I am finally able to spend time sewing today. I went downstairs to get a bigger needle for my sewing machine and got sidetracked. :). I cut some fleece into smaller pieces for toy stuffing, cut borders for a baby quilt, and ran some scraps through my cutting machine. I brought some things upstairs, but not the needle! So another trip down to get it. Now I am sewing toys shut and sewing new ones to be stuffed.

Cotton Mama 04-17-2016 10:06 AM

Krista, your mauvelous quilt is indeed marvelous. Cam's Gram, your quilts look wonderful! I hope I can someday be as productive as you are.

I'm making slow progress piecing my quilt top. It's the largest I've attempted - 60"x80". I've had to do some unstitching this weekend, but at least I am making some progress.

Macybaby 365 is looking good, I think the total scrappy will look great surrounding the controlled center! You have awesome color sense.

Taughtby Grandma - Looking great, I'm still on the fence about doing one a DWR

Connie glad you got some sewing done, weather is so nice for up here this time of year.

I still have not gotten anything sewn this weekend and probably will not, impromptu dinner with friends last night then cards after dinner. Was able to get 3 of the gardens cleaned and today did church, about to finish the bible study for tonight then back to cleaning the garden. But had to check in, thanks for all the pictures.

Here are pictures of my Women of the Bible that I was unable to get posted on Friday. The first is the quilted Section A. Next is unquilted Section B. I probably won't get much done today. I'm watching NASCAR now and then will be watching the Blackhawks. I'll go into the sewing room after the Hawks beat the Blues.

Project #2 for this weekend. I finished quilting my baby turquoise and brown quilt (it really needs a name). This is one of 3 quilts made from the same fabric and my strip-tube ruler. The quilt is small (about 40x50"), so I played with some custom quilting on this one. Second photo is from the back, where the quilting shows better. yes, I know it's not centered - I had no choice due to issues with the backing fabric.

Wow... some beautiful, beautiful stuff was posted today! You are a talented bunch.

All I sewed today were my 2 paper pieced blocks from the FW 1930s book, but they are next week's assignment and am not supposed to show them until Tuesday in that thread! They are so pretty, I am really getting into these!

Oh what the heck... I'll show them. Any 1930s group people: DONT LOOK.

Fantastic work everyone!

Dedemac: It was a beautiful day again today but my body is tired from shopping the last couple of afternoons/evenings so I didn't do any yard work. :). But I finally found one dress and a sweater for my son's wedding next month that fit well and I enjoyed the company of my niece.

I worked on strip cutting some flannel for baby quilts and I serged some diaper pads. I also took some time out to watch the Twins win! Now I need to go and clean up my various activities. Lol!

Ok, after taking a picture, I couldn't leave it so I got up last night and fixed the blocks so they match up better. I'll tell you one thing about this quilt, me and Mr Ripper have become best friends doing this! haha

happylab 04-18-2016 02:59 PM

Macybaby = just love the center of you 365 top, my colors. I can hardly wait to see the finished product.

Ontheriver = such pretty foxes, especially the purple one.

qltn = very pretty and nice your batik top. I love it.

Everyone else projects are just as nice and lovely, I just done have room to acknowledge all of the pretty projects.

I have 18 of my 40 blocks done on the 2nd block of AR Crossroads. It takes a little longer that I figured. Plus housework and other distractions got in the way. Work and life. Too many projects not enough time.

happylab 04-18-2016 03:05 PM

Did I miss the dates for the next QAL?

DonnaPBradshaw 04-18-2016 05:47 PM

I've been making fabric books for future and current grandchildren! They take about 5 hours per book but they turn out so cute! One was about dino's, another about counting, Christmas books, etc. I quilt on one size of the page so when the book is washed it won't come apart!

Taughtby Grandma 04-19-2016 06:30 AM

Rebecca S, I love the colors in your quilt are those prairie points on the blocks or is it a pattern? I love it.

tropit 04-19-2016 06:52 AM

So many beautiful projects! Krista, I love your quilting on that piece. I did not get much done this weekend. I screwed up on a long quilting line that had to be carefully taken out. My walking foot misbehaved and I had teeny tiny stitches to remove. Augh! Needless to say, I got bored and frustrated with the project after awhile and so I moved on to pruning the apple trees instead. I love looking at everyone pix though. Nice stuff!
