Petthefabric - great project! What size? Those columns between the panels - are they pieced?

Attach a binding to another quilt
LA a quilt.
Last 2 will have pictures later.

I have these exact panels, I love what you have done so far and can’t wait to see when you finish them.

rryder 02-13-2021 04:19 AM

Petthefabric- great use of those panels. Glad to see you did have enough for the border!

Panchita- thanks for the link. The Puffin quilt is seriously cute. Looking forward to seeing your version.

I’m still dithering on how I want to quilt the Feb. Debbie Brown colorblock quilt.

Piecing backing using rediscovered "What was I thinking" fabric.

Quiltah Mama 02-13-2021 04:52 AM

Petthefabric, wow that is beautiful. Was it a bundle or kit? Or have you picked your coordinating fabrics, because they are perfect. Can't wait to see it finished.

I will be working on a Christmas runner that is emb. then quilted. Have been ill for sometime so this will spur me along. Still cannot get to my sewing studio--but I will.

I am also very tickled by the Tour the Shop photos - in the second photo you can see the Puffin quilt I plan on making (albeit with a slightly different colourway - I'll swap out the yellow for a blue/purple I think. Am keeping the puffins puffin-coloured https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images...es/biggrin.png). Link here if interested Fabricate® | Tour the shop! | Bar Harbor, ME (mdifabricate.com)!

I have had the pleasure of visiting this shop...thank you for posting the link. They have a lovely space.

Panchita 02-13-2021 07:00 AM

jmoore - I'm just glad to see Fabricate is still going since it's been a while!

So I had a nice organised list this morning, so what have I spent my time on? Sewing a hearts banner for Valentine's Day (which is not turning out as I'd hoped, so is now being abandoned/left to marinate for a while...) Was that on my list? Nope, no it wasn't.

Getting back on track I have, to my delight, discovered a good backing for my Penguins and also that my last decent-sized piece of batting will fit. So the Penguins are sorted. They will be intentionally set aside for now while I finish the handquilting on the Pumpkins.

I have skipped on to pulling fabric for the Puffins...

petthefabric 02-13-2021 07:37 AM

The size is 36 x 60.
The panels and the stripe are matching fabrics, been in stash several yrs. The rest is stash. Between the panels is a column of square in a square pieced with stripes.

Quilting will be a while, as other projects need to be finished.

thimblebug6000 02-13-2021 08:23 AM

Panchita, thank you for the link, what a wonderful shop to visit! A little of everything for sure....and right smack centre in one picture is a wooden box labeled "Best Canadian Apples" ..... haha...
Look forward to seeing your puffins quilt....I loved a little boat tour we did off of Edinburgh I think to visit the puffins......also back in Newfoundland one year...we have been fortunate to travel to so many wonderful places...but sometimes the memories of where we saw what blend https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/wink.png

Baby quilt is now labeled and ready to be mailed off to Texas. I had just enough of the fabric collection to plan an on point setting.

rryder 02-13-2021 11:07 AM

That’s very pretty, Thimblebug.

I’m enjoying reading about everyone’s progress on their projects.

I’ve had a busy morning. Managed to get my Debbie Brown Feb. colorblock sandwiched, thread picked out and bobbins wound. If we don’t lose power, I will start ditching it this afternoon. I also set up the work area for coloring my doodle quilt with inktense pencils. This is a UFO that just needs to have the coloring finished up so I can do some accent quilting and painting with lumiere paints on it. I also managed to get three of the birds traced for Helen Godden’s Feathered Friends which was a BOM for 2018. Now I’m taking a bit of a rest. Keep your fingers crossed that we don’t lose power. Right now we’re in the zone scheduled to get as much as 1/2 an inch of ice on top of snow covered trees. So far we’ve got between 1/8 and 1/4 inch and lots of folks have already lost power as tree limbs come down and snap power lines. The line coming into our hose is already pretty well coated and starting to sag a bit. I’ve been holding my breath every time the wind blows them around. Will keep checking in as long as possible.

Rob

Julienm1 02-13-2021 11:18 AM

Rob I remember one winter in MN two ice storms almost back to back. Chill factor -30. The trees were beautiful but the roads had ruts until spring...it seemed. I hope everything will be OK for you and everyone in the storm's path.

Finished goal #2, binding. The flower fabric is a Hoffman Challenge Fabric. All the fabric was from stash. it's 60x80". It'll go to Comfort Quilts. Attachment 631675

sewingitalltogether 02-13-2021 03:34 PM

Doing good. I’ve had to back way up on my Vintage Rose. I started it on a retreat and then took it to a second retreat. To much chatting with the girls and not enough really paying attention to what I was doing. It’s ok. Good day sewing, ripping and sewing again. At least I’m making progress on it. It’s become a 3 year old UFO.

Raggiemom 02-13-2021 03:50 PM

Quiltah Mama--glad you found us!

Panchita--Fabricate looks like a lovely shop. Can't wait to see your puffins quilt

Thimblebug6000--glad you had enough fabric, it is so frustrating when you're short just a little.

rryder--hope you don't lose power. We're supposed to get a storm here Sunday night into Tuesday afternoon. Mostly snow but could be some ice/sleet also. Won't be a good combination.

I finished my mystery quilt top and it's ready to go to longarmer next week. I do most of my own quilting but not queen sized! Didn't get my wool applique projects prepped but did pick up and put away some things in my sewing room.

Will check back in later. Going to watch Thor now :)

It's fun reading about all the progress being made and seeing the photos. Here is my progress so far. Three rows to go.

quiltingshorttimer 02-13-2021 05:23 PM

Rob--totally thinking warm, electric thoughts for you! Nothing worse than ice! We are expecting sub zero temps though Tues night with deathly wind chills. My old gelding is not unhappy at all to a rug and hot mash 2x a day. While he can go in/out of the barn at will, he likes to huddle in the woods instead.

Son and his friend and my 3 g-boys came down today to return my car which he'd had for about due to his being stolen (found but had been damaged) and his wife's car being rear ended and totaled. Was so fun to see them as it had been since early Jan and then just for a quick meet up in a truck stop half way between. So basically got no sewing or quilting done today (although did some cleaning before they got here). Tomorrow back to the ribbons and marking the Judy Niemeyer--it's the Sunflower Illusion one.

Rff1010 02-13-2021 05:35 PM

Got the center blocks pieced on the LeMoyne. Have all the borders picked out. And it's supposed to snow in my area tomorrow so ...might actually get it done this wkd!

rryder 02-14-2021 03:22 AM

Hey all, thanks for the warm wishes. Our power blinked off and then came back 3 times yesterday. We got more ice over night, and potential for more this morning. Many people in our neighborhood have lost power. Not sure how ours has managed to stay on. Fingers crossed!

Quiltingshortimer-trees instead of barn- isn’t that just like a horse LOL! We’re down to just Smokey since we lost our 35 year old gelding (Tinker) this past October. Smokey gets a seriously thick winter coat and his favorite thing to do if not blanketed is to find the nearest mud puddle (in above freezing weather) and throw himself into it for a thorough roll around- really hard to get partly dried mud out of winter coat!

Got three of the 30 blocks ditched on my Sweet Sixteen yesterday before the power going off and on convinced me to switch to coloring my doodle quilt. Not fond of ditching, since it’s something I struggle with, but I decided to do these monthly color block quilts in order to force myself to practice staying in the ditch!

Stay warm everyone!

Rob

Sunday morning update:.................

1.Finish cutting usable pieces from my scrap bin. Whoo Hoo! The big ole bin is empty! I have enough 2.5 square to make a dozen quilts.or more. I also have 3.5 X6.5 bricks to make at least 5 or 6 quilts.
2.Finish Quilting one quilt. This is done, but not the quilt that I intended. Ran out of thread for my half finished quilt. So I chose another to work on. Maybe a trip to JoAnn's after virtual church and a zoom meeting with friends. and get the thread I need to finish my spiral quilting.
3.Make binding for quilt. Yes, binding not only made but about 1/4 of hand sewing to the back is done.

It was a delightlfully busy Saturday afternoon and evening. I will work toward finishing that binding and celebrate my finishes.

Looking ahead to Monday and seeing photos of OUR finishes.

luvstoquilt 02-14-2021 06:52 AM

I did the binding on my latest quilted project and I have the top together on a Christmas quilt called Silent Night. today I will hand quilt a small quilt and decide what to start next! I love the quilting weekends and especially now with all the snow outside! Happy valentine's day to all of you.

craftiladi 02-14-2021 07:10 AM

I am excited to finally have finished 2 ufo's quilts that have sat around here way too long. Yippie :)

Midwife - love the cats!
Petthefabric - very creative with the panels
Thimblebug6000 - pretty baby quilt
Lots being accomplished this weekend. Got this baby quilt quilted and bound. Now to start cutting out the next one.

Does cleaning out/destashing count on a CQW? LOL

I have two projects to still bind: a twin size bed quilt and a small wall hanging. Both have been attached, now I just need to sew down to the back.

Thanks for hosting! I think we should be able to earn CEUs (continuing education units) towards our PhDs (Projects Half Done)...https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images...es/biggrin.png

rryder 02-14-2021 09:59 AM

Cute sloth quilt, Camsgran! I have thought about getting a whole house generator...

Rob

Raggiemom 02-14-2021 10:10 AM

Midwife--the cats are looking good.

Rff1010--I enjoy making Lemoyne star quilts. How do you make yours? I Use Deb Tucker tools for almost everything :)

WMUTeach--great progress on your list!

craftiladi--way to go

ILoveToQuilt--yes cleaning/destashing counts

I won't be quilting much today but didn't figure I would be. Baking this afternoon and then I have scheduled phone calls with friends. But will be back at work tomorrow morning!

Things didn’t get done like I hoped. It’s cold out and my heater is not working. Close bedrooms and have a kerosene heater on. I did get one PP block done

Rff1010 02-14-2021 02:30 PM

RaggiesMom - I used the Missouri Star tutorial from a few months ago. https://youtu.be/qBr132A7rLw
Jenny called it a Lemon Star.

I found it to be a nice and easy way to use scraps.

Wow, lots of sewing happening this VQW! Here's what I've been helping with... the cabinets were 80s oak - but in pretty good condition and they are painting up beautifully. The previous floor was 8" tile - this is such a change!

petthefabric 02-14-2021 05:02 PM

cjsews; beautiful
QuiltingVagabond: big project! Looking good.

Skipped goal 3 (it's loaded on LA).
From the current RR on QB. The origional is posted on that thread and the picture will enlarge.
carriem-rr-3rd-roune-resize-2mp.jpg I'm a procrastanator, so as soon as I get one, I try to do my part and pass it on. This one is to move on March 15, I'm way ahead.

The size I got was 27.5" square, divisible by 3 x 3 x 3. Then noticed the center is a basic 9 patch. So it has 3" 9 patches with spacers. The corners are basically 1/2 square triangles, so I repeated it in the corners. My style shows in the light WOCream for a higher value contrast.

Measuring and remeasuring was important. If 1/16" error is repeated 16 times, it's off by 1". I've gotten sloppy on 1/4" seam.

quiltingshorttimer 02-14-2021 05:19 PM

Wow! some busy people here! I did get my Feb. blocks on my 2021 Temp quilt taken care of today--upstairs so will get a photo tomorrow. And working on the ribbon rosettes for KCRegional Quilt Fest--sooo time consuming! And I'v managed to scorch my finger tips and get glue in many places it shouldn't be! But want to get my part on so I can pass along to the next person and get a quilt on the frame. Playing with quilt designs on my Judy Niemeyer Sunflower Illusions tonight.

So many are dealing with this darn winter weather--prayers that all stay safe.

Rob--I had an Appy that would get so mud caked that it would take hours to get it out of his coat--especially in winter! The other place that old boy likes to hang out in this weather is between to large round bales of hay that have a slot about his width--blocks the north wind and he can still stand there and much hay! But so cold today and snowed all day that he actually spend part of the day in the barn.

LifeLovePassion 02-14-2021 06:10 PM

I started Friday by dropping off 6 charity quilt tops (others will sandwich and bind them). I also picked up a grocery bag full of 6 inch leftover squares. My daughter laid out a couple of quilt tops to sew up. I should be able to get 6 or 7 more assembled with all of the squares. I call them "beauty from ashes" quilts.

Friday, Saturday and this morning, I worked on my lap quilt. I wrote about it in my thread "Trying new things". I just took it out of the dryer. It turned out great!

Today I cut up some flannel for a baby/lap quilt. I came up with the pattern...hopefully my math is correct. Rows are pinned in stacks ready for the machine!

Sadly, my migraines knocked me out of this VQW, I still have one going on right now, it's raging mad about the weather but I had to get out of bed and move, I was getting sore and tender.

I haven't done much sewing this weekend, I had ordered a jelly roll that should have been here Friday under normal circumstances, but is now delayed due to the cold and now the snow we are due to get throughout the week. I was going to start on my niece's Jagged X quilt this weekend. Stupid weather.

At least I've got some felt and a few scraps of fabric, I made my little sister a chicken pincushion and I'll be making mine tomorrow. That's if my brain doesn't explode.

petthefabric 02-14-2021 07:05 PM

Amazing chicken pin cushion. Mine were very simple.
