Virtual Quilting Weekend--Nov 9-Nov 11, 2019
Welcome to our make-up VQW! :) I've actually been quilting much of the day and am getting ready to head out to our guild meeting. My goal this weekend is to finish the pile of quilt tops hanging over the upstairs railing and get ready for next weekend's quilt retreat. And I even have a list to make sure I don't forget something.
I hope you are able to join in. What are you working on this weekend? We will have a VQW starting Thanksgiving Day, going through Sunday. The next regular VQW will be December 20-22. Will check back in tomorrow to see what everyone is up to. |
I'm in! working on complex, tiny piece blocks for a Sampler quilt. Takes me all day to make one block most days! Glad to be with you!
|
I dug out a long time UFO and started working on it again last weekend and will continue this weekend. It's a crazy quilt with lots of fancy machine stitches. I've been working on this so long that I've used over 6 machines on it so far. I'm trying hard to get all the blocks done so I can free up my stack of neutrals for the BH mystery.
I'm currently on my third set of 25 blocks, then will have one more set and I'll have all 100 of them done! |
Well today I've been dealing with problems and it will be nice to deal with quilting instead. One of the (many) problems is my fancy sewing computer needs to go to the shop, so I plugged in my cheap Brother and am ready to sew!
I have a project I'm working on that doesn't have a name yet, last week I was calling it "cherry goose". It's a lap/crib size that will be for donation and I will make it today's goal to have a picture of it tomorrow. I'll also be doing some fabric dying. I was lucky enough to find a lovely bag of hand dyed fabrics at the thrift store in the last couple of weeks and the colors are actually quite good for the Bonnie Hunter Frolic mystery, except not enough pale/neutral. I decided to change it to yellow and I'll have to dye process a couple of yards of those this weekend. I have pure white in my stash and I went to Joann for Rit Dye and the Dollar Store for some other supplies and I am ready to dip and boil. Yesterday I did some bleach and tea dye processes on the solid green I'm using. If that isn't enough, I have the hand sewing part of the binding for another donation top. I am soooo slow at handwork and one weekend isn't enough for me to get it done -- especially when there are more fun things to do. |
Guild most of today and tomorrow morning the DH and I are checking out local exercise center (I teach water wellness about 9-10 hrs weekly but the pool closed for repairs and not sure when/if I'll be back in)!! Hope to finish piecing a DD's Christmas quilt; quilt a friend's table runner and hopefully make some inroads on her TV quilt (pp'ed retro tv's which we agree will have screens quilted with retro shows--Bonanza, I Love Lucy, etc). Lots still do to for my family for Christmas so will have to be productive!

I have a UFO to bind. Then I need to work on DGD’s 21st birthday quilt- it’s been on the UFO pile for several years as I started it at the same time as The one I did for her older sister’s 21st birthday. Somehow I thought that by starting it 3 years early I would not be having to rush at the last minute to get it done yet here we are, 3 weeks to her 21st and it’s still only partly pieced

I'm in. But first I need to get rid of this nausea. I over ate again. Will be doing Smith Mountain Morning this time in greenish gold and beige.
|
I'm in! I have a couple of ufo's that I am hoping to work on.
|
Count me im!
|
Battle Axe. Peppermint helps
|
I have to make a pillow cover which shouldn't take too long then back to the Christmas ornament quilt I'm trying to get done......lol
|
I'll be joining in as much as I can. This morning I have to do the grocery shopping, which will probably take all morning. Tomorrow we have a friend's wedding to attend and Sunday we are hoping to install a few new windows. But I can sew this afternoon and on Monday! I finished quilting the main part of a quilt yesterday, and my goal is to finish quilting th borders and hopefully start the binding. I love the feeling of getting so close to finishing a quilt!
Look forward to seeing everyone's projects! |
I'm in!
I'm working on a Christmas quilt titled Candy Wrappers- it's such a cute pattern. Hope to get it all pieced by the end of the weekend. It's the first thing I've made that isn't for my new granddaughter born in September! :) |
A quilting marathon is more likely what I will need to be doing. Especially if I need to totally re make a new quilt. I will have a better idea later today if I need to make another baby quilt and if I do then it will be more that virtual but virtual marathon quilt weekend. Looking forward to getting the quilting juices running.

Thanks for hosting again Raggiemom! I’m in! I want to finish the last blocks on a Queen size quilt and get it off my design wall and on my longarm. Like most of my projects I get about halfway done, then other things require my attention, and it lingers while I find my mojo to get going again.
|
Yes I’ll be working on my churn dash blocks for a charity quilt. They said neutral colors work best for the auction and it’s been a bit hard for me as I love bright colorful quilts.
|
I’m in, I want to quilt and finish a few tops. Then wash and iron my black fabric for BHMQ 2019, so I’m ready for Her 1st clue.
|
So this is the "next" project or the project with no name, posted it in the most appropriate thread if you want a visual, don't like cross posting photos so close together.
https://www.quiltingboard.com/main-f...ml#post8324423 I'm making 24 total of the goose blocks, I'm doing the rectangle and two squares method of making the geese, they are all pinned and ready to go and next step. I need to get used to the seam allowance on the Brother, I'm not quite hitting where I want to yet, but I'll be practiced up by the end of the project. Quite often my quilts have songs to go with them, I went to my hubby's bowling league where they are getting used to me sitting up top working on one of my projects and Bohemian Rhapsody was playing as I was pinning the geese. There's the part where the line is actually Scaramouche Scaramouche can you do the fandango? And suddenly I was head banging along to it as Cherry Goose! Cherry Goose! LOL, don't know if that name is going to stick or not. |
I also will be joining in. Working on bindings on several baby quilts AND a king sized quilt for my dear friend's birthday today. Thank you for hosting again, Heather.

I'm working on the Pam Buda Circa 1880 Club quilt. It is a block-of-the-month type subscription for one year, that is the only way you can get the pattern and the templates. I started making the teeny tiny blocks in May and have most of the 500+ 2 1/2 inch blocks finished. Now I'm working on assembling them into units and then to strips and eventually into a quilt. There is a lot of potential for fussy-cutting so I have a few mixed in with the standard blocks. I want to make a couple of tiny embroidered blocks to mix in with the pieced ones. Plenty of steps to keep me busy this weekend! (The first picture is sideways - sorry!)

Lynne that is fantastic!

I'm working on sewing together 200-odd blocks of batiks for a queen quilt, which I have laid out on the ping-pong table. You can just see the extra rows laid out on the floor that wouldn't fit on the table.
I have collected batiks for so long, I figured it was time to do something with them! I wanted an easy, straightforward quilt to do. This should keep me busy for awhile. Watson |
Count me in. I'm back to the cat quilt I started on the last VQW. I had to wait for fabric to come in, so I finished up a turtle quilt in the mean time.

Battleaxe, ginger helps, too.
|
Wow, there is some serious quilting going on today! I continued working on quilting and binding. I should have the pile done by the end of the weekend if I keep on track. Let's hope I stay focused!
Battleaxe, hope you feel better :) |
Count me in... I will be working on pillows. Will post pics later this weekend once I get some done. Got more invisible thread headed my way in the mail for closing up the pillows once stuffed.
|
Got the baby quilt bound, therefore finished, and it is in the wash as I type. Tomorrow is supposed to be a beautiful day, so I will try to photograph it to post. Not complicated, but very sweet.

I'm in. What I'm working on will depend on whether or not my husband works this weekend. If he doesn't I'll work on the quilt I'm making him for Christmas. If he doesn't work and is home, I'll finish up my pajama pants, hem some jeans and plan my next project. Oh, I can also work on my FMQ pattern that I'm going to use on his quilt.

Watson, your batik quilt is splendid! Vibrant and vivid colors with a simple, modern design. Are those fabrics scraps or all from a line? .
|
Lynn, love the progress you are making on your quilt.
Watson, your batik will surely be colorful and fun. I am away from my sewing studio for a month...I am visiting my son and DIL in California as we await a new grandbaby, he is due any day. I did bring a hand project with me...I am working on 300 (4 1/2 inch) blocks for O Happy Day. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sour...BbSdHJMLeSjBW5 |
About finished binding the second of three doll quilts this evening. I think I meed a refresher course on mitered corners, though.
|
Zozee, those are all fat quarters I've picked up here and there over the years.

Going to spend most of the day going on Quilt Shop Hop! Hoping to have time this evening cutting out Twin Star blocks from Summer Moon
|
Working the Quilt Ministry table at the church holiday bazaar: spent yesterday putting out for sale well over fifty quilts, unknown number of potholders, tea towels, over twenty quilted market bags, unknown number of machine embroidered angels/snowflakes/birds and over fifty crazy quilted heart ornaments. Presale revenue stands at $200. I expect it's going to be a long day and I better get a move on!!!
|
Doing up a couple of quick flannel baby quilts for our local Santa's Helpers program.
|
That's a neat pattern Watson- it does a great job showing all those beautiful batiks!
|
Well, so far today I finished attaching the binding on to the front of the donation quilt, I took it to my Tuesday group to show one of the ladies how I do that last seam on continuous binding.
I now have one side of all the geese units sewn for that project, goal for today is to trim and press that side and finish the units. It's still early yet so maybe I'll do a bit more than that, but I like to make my goals small and achievable. Still dealing with a lot of non-quilting issues, felt good to have the fabric moving under my hands this morning :) |
