Nice scrappy quilt, WMUTeach!

entangled 10-03-2020 02:20 PM

I love reading about and seeing everyone's progress! You've all inspired to get off my tired butt (I had to work today) and do some mellow handstitching on my top priority UFO, a Bear Paw lap quilt. Woohoo!

quiltingshorttimer 10-03-2020 04:47 PM

managed to get the quilt loaded on the long arm and ready to go tomorrow. And spent more time making 8 masks for Halloween for son's family. Will mail those on Monday when I go to give blood and pick u book at library. Tomorrow I'll work on long arm and work on getting organized to start a new lap quilt for Christmas present.

Everybody is making good progress on there projects. They all look really nice. I made three feed sack bags this weekend. Went shopping this afternoon. Went to a new quilt shop. Alot of bright fabrics and yarn. Last virtual quilting weekend I got eight welder caps done for my granddaughter. She really liked them. People she works with asked where she got them. They thought she bought them.

Teach-congratulations

I finished a top.

MicheleC 10-03-2020 10:03 PM

I did more frog stitching today to open up a couple inches on either side of the spots that needed to be fixed on my jelly roll race quilt. I also started to iron for re-stitching the seams and realized I’ll have to stitch and iron each one between. I don’t think it will play nicely, otherwise. This is a slow process but, it certainly shows the benefit of slowing down and doing something right the first time.

QuiltMom2 10-04-2020 03:48 AM

Update: Did only slight work on repair job, but continued massive on-point piecing project and have gone from 60% to 75%. Didn't touch longarm except to lay out completed rows of piecing project, and I threw some laundry in which doesn't count as quilting but needed to be done! Have a great day everyone!

Corrections and progress - Sunday AM

Well, I opened up the site this morning and looked at the photo I posted. Yup, I found the blocks that were turned in the bottom two rows. https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/wave.gif Back to making corrections after online church this morning. I did make choices for the special baby quilt and can now start to fussy cut the charming little animals. Additional fabric will be needed to coordinate with the critters I chose. That will come tomorrow. In the end, I can always quilt one of my two donation quilts.https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/boy.gif

Sunday Update

Today is going good for me so far, I ordered the Elvira ruler first thing this morning, I'll need it for my sister's quilt when it comes time to do the FMQ. Still haven't steamed out the wrinkles on my design wall, I'll probably do that during one of my many coffee breaks later. I'll have the entire day to myself, the Chiefs/Pats game has been postponed because several team members tested positive for Covid and it's too early in the season to worry about division games. Yay me!

beckyboo1 10-04-2020 05:42 AM

Worked on Halloween quilt yesterday. Used fork pins to keep seams straight then realized after I'd done several rows that they were leaving holes grrrrr. Reminder to self-only use fine fork pins! These came from Joann and I should've known better when they were in the yarn section. Lesson learned.

Panchita 10-04-2020 06:16 AM

Hi everyone! Thank you for the positive comments, you made my day https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/smile.png

I'm loving the descriptions of the various Halloween projects people have on the go. I have a stacked pumpkins wallhanging I'd like to do one of these days...

WMUTeach - I feel your pain! Hopefully it won't take too long to remedy - its a fab top, I love the colours

BeckyBoo1 - I have never gotten the hang of fork pins, maybe my issue is that they aren't fine enough

So far I've managed to cut out and Heat'n'Bond down my October penguin (needs to be stitched in place to finish the block - plus a tiny bit of embroidery for this month's block - been a while since I've done any of that!!), I've also de-papered the edges of 6 stars (they are EPP'd) in order to square them up and frame them with the green/grey vine fabric. So far I've framed 2 and am absolutely *loving* the way it looks. So am working more on that today (takes longer than you'd think!)

Happy Quilting https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images...es/biggrin.png

Got an entire block finished with the hand quilting last night. Now I'm hoping to get this beast from two years ago basted this morning so it has a hope of being finished this month.

Good morning. Got another feed sack bag done, Half done with other. Hope everybody has good luck in the sewing room today.

juliasb 10-04-2020 07:33 AM

I am making more progress. Two more blocks!! I hope to get at least 2 more done today.

thimblebug6000 10-04-2020 08:02 AM

Just see this post this morning, haven't had time to sew yet, but will start the pumpkinpatchbc penguin October block and then maybe take the first hand stitches in a Panda baby quilt this afternoon. It isn't very bright out as some of the smoke has crept back up here, but will get out for a nice walk before settling in to stitch. Enjoy your day everyone!

QuiltingVagabond 10-04-2020 08:39 AM

No sewing at all for me this weekend, yesterday I helped DD price things for a yard sale she is having soon. Today I'm packing for a nice fall break camping trip. Good work everyone! See you next time!

rryder 10-04-2020 10:32 AM

No sewing for me yesterday or Friday. Today I made some good headway on quilting the borders for the big butterfly. Taking a break for now, but hope to get more done later this afternoon.

I enjoy reading all of the posts. No sewing yet for me today. A wonderful reason for no sewing though as I attended the baptism of my only grandchild. I can’t post pics because they only do Instagram.

I have one more diagonal seam on my UFO. I will be adding borders after I trim the top. I’m thinking I may be able to do floating points. 🤞

MicheleC 10-04-2020 01:31 PM

I haven’t sewed yet today because getting laundry started and tidying the house took priority this morning. I’m just eating my lunch before I swap laundry one more time and then I will be able to sew. I‘Ll be starting on fixing the seams on the top that needed fixing. If I’m fortunate enough to finish them today, I will attach the borders and glue baste two quilts. We shall see.

Raggiemom 10-04-2020 03:44 PM

Well it looks like a lot was accomplished this weekend. I discovered I needed to make some charity quilts so planned out a couple to work on this week. See you all next month! And I’ll try to put the thread in the correct place next time 😄

beckyboo1 10-04-2020 04:57 PM

I thought I could finish my Halloween quilt top today but still have 3 sides of the border to put on and the fabric has wavy lines in and must be put pieced together. Oh well, was good to see what everyone else was up to. Thanks for doing the VQW Raggiemom!

sewbizgirl 10-04-2020 06:36 PM

Thanks, Heather. See you all next month.

Since I have been tucked inside since March I have been trying to use my stash for smaller quilts and throws. This weekend My goal was to finish the binding on a baby quilt. I am a hand quilter but have been practicing my machine quilting on the last few quilts. I am just getting the hang of it!

WMUTeach 10-05-2020 03:10 AM

Monday Morning Wrap-up

So my list to do this week-end...................
1. Finish piecing blue donation quilt. - corrected miss-placed blocks and added a border. Done
2. Layer and quilt green donation quilt.- Still squaring up this top so I can add borders and layer to finish.
3. Make a choice of fabrics for baby quilt. (Too many choices and this is a special family baby.) Done! Picked out coordinating fabrics and fussy cut animals. Charted out the pattern and piece sizes. Ta-Dah!
4. Cut pieces for Chemo Pouches
5. Maybe a mask or two from the new pattern - Nope. The heart is willing but the fingers never made it to masks this time.

Feeling mildly successful. The benefit is now I have a clear list of what to work on this week! The near-finishes are waiting!

Now, I am ready to sit back and browse all of the accomplishments this VQW from all of you. See you next month!

beckyw 10-05-2020 03:17 AM

I got six feed sack bags done this weekend. Those bags are out of my sewing room. Time to finish other projects. Everybody did great this weekend. Have a great week!

QuiltMom2 10-05-2020 03:34 AM

Sad to say, I realized that I wouldn't actually finish/post picture of my quilt top: it needs applique in one section that goes over the pillows on a bed and since this is so large, I'm going to applique before the sections are sewn together. Small longarming project for someone else is done, but it needs binding and I don't have permission from her to post a picture.
I've enjoyed seeing what everyone has worked on this weekend.

Macybaby 10-05-2020 05:26 AM

I was all set and excited to work on my medallion top. Made good progress on Saturday, but woke up with a migraine Sunday so ended up spending most of the day in bed. Glad lots of you were able to make good progress!

rryder 10-05-2020 07:04 AM

Thanks for hosting, Heather. I love seeing what everyone is working on.

After making good progress Sunday am, I realized that there was a problem with the tension on the back of my quilt--- argh. Of course, the top side looked great, but the back side is not acceptable. I usually check the backside when I first start and then again every time I take a break. Not sure why I didn't this time. So today will be spent ripping and re-quilting https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/cool.png

I'm one ring away from my goal this weekend, I wanted to get nine rings done and I'm almost there. I would have had it done yesterday but my fiance made a compelling case to make some cookies and play some Halo, then we took a nap, lol.

Today is going to be busy, UPS, FedEx, and my mailman are bringing in our monthly provisions orders and I got a 24 strip set of emerald fabric coming in today, one of my nieces is struggling a little since her divorce was final last month and I'm making her a Mini-Irish Chain, green is her favorite color. I'll be making hers the same time I'm making my sister's and hopefully, she'll have a pretty quilt she can snuggle into with her two girls by spring.

I love these VQWs, I feel so accomplished by the end of them. Thank you again, Raggiemom for hosting!

MicheleC 10-05-2020 08:10 AM

Thank you so much for hosting, Raggiemom! I enjoyed seeing the progress of others as well as making my own progress.

Fixing the seams on the JRR turned out to be more like re-stitching the whole quilt. As I started to fix the places that were split, I made the decision to stitch the entire row. Which led to the decision to re-stitch all the rows, even if not split. My sewing really was awful on this thing. All the rows have wonky seam allowances with hardly a straight section among them. I almost want to make another JRR top to prove to myself I can do it properly, now! Haha!

I hope everyone has a safe and productive week ahead!

petthefabric 10-05-2020 09:36 AM

On Sunday, cutting, some stitching and design wall work happened for a charity quilt. Our guild is making Q's for the wildfire victims. Then we planted the 2 pots at the church and went for pizza. End of day.

When we moved here, didn't realize how much the deer ate. The pastor's wife planted the pots making the same mistake. Now she's ready for help. They look nice and even pastor noticed.

retiredteacher09 10-05-2020 05:21 PM

schwanton: It’s fun trying new things. Lovely baby quilt.

See everyone next month.

Panchita 10-06-2020 05:47 AM

Thank you for hosting, Raggiemom!

I'm late (it's Tuesday *ahem*), but wanted to thank you all for a great VQW again. I'm still continuing with framing my star blocks (and still loving it https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images...es/biggrin.png). If I'm honest I hope to have finished the top before next VQW, but you never know. And I *do* know what I will be working on next (well, I have a selection of about 3 things that I'll pick one from, lol)

See you next month!

juliasb 10-06-2020 06:25 AM

I managed to get 7 blocks finished over the weekend!! I couldn't be happier. It would have been nice to get the binding on the other quilt but getting done what I did was great. I will get the binding done this week sometime.

moonbeam435 10-07-2020 09:23 AM

I really like these blocks. They are very pretty! Are you using a certain pattern?
